If I were you. I would go to the doctor. First the Dentist. If you are having problems with your jaw,,teeth area. Then to a rhematology. Specialist deals with this facal pain and can give u something to help relax you after you explain to them whats going on. I hope this helps i used to have this kind of problem. But,I had sensitive teeth and gums..plus..my fibro was painin in my skeletons bones,,of my face alot. Be blessed.

have you ever checked for TMJ. I have it and it makes my jaw ache terribly. I also have times when chewing anything aches.

I've quit chewing gum. That helps. There are other things you can do too. I'd ask your doc about it. An ENT diagnosed mine and I didn't believe him at first. Then, another doc confirmed it.

A lot of FMS people have TMJ.

    Just a thought.

It sounds like you have TMJ to me too. I know your family dentist will make a mouth guard for you. It is usually even paid for by insurance companies. I hope someone knows a pain reliever for you but I'm not sure what would help. I will be praying for some relief for you.

I recently was diagnosed with TMJ; I was having severe headaches 24/7, as well as face, neck and shoulder pain. I always blamed it on sinusitis, RA, and fibro (which some of it is), but it was becoming debilitating. I didn't believe them at first either, thinking it was a money making ploy for a splint. However, since the insurance is paying some for the splint and the physical therapy, I am doing it and getting some release.

My rheum and now the pysiatrist is recommending I take a muscle relaxer/pain relierver Tizanidine. I was reluctant last year because it is a central nervous system med and am afraid of it. Anyone have any experience with this med?

I haven't heard of it but would like info also. Is it like nurontin? My doc wants me to try nurontin which I believe is for nerve-related pain. Does that sound right?

This is the muscle relaxer I have taken for about a year now. I've tried Robaxin with no help, and Flexaril - which just makes me sleepy & it has been a God send for me.

Since muscle tension is where most of my problems seem to be (whether they started that way or not) I take 4-8 mg three to four times a day, depending on how bad I am that day.

So, for me, it works well & I do not have any side effects that I can tell.

    Good luck!

I will call and make an appointment with my family Dr and see if I can get her to prescribe me Tizanidine (AKA Zanaflex)hopefully this will work.

I'm not sure if it's the same thing as you have, but I used to have something like it, ususally later in the evenings when I was really tired. My face would feel, for lack of a better word, "tired" and I would find myself opening my mouth and moving it around in order to stretch things out a bit. I was wondering what was happening but looking back it was, for me, just heavy fatigue.

    Hope you're feeling better...

This is one of things I've been thru for years.
Face pain ouch, a dentist told me to lay my tongue in the roof of my mouth relaxing my jaw.
    with my mouth closed .
I had developed TMJ since FM and have had many painful days.
I would catch myself putting my hands on my face to warm it up a bit, to try and relieve it.
Even sleeping with a heating pad across my face waking up with a sweatie face.which feels yucky.

I've done the mouth stretching and even slept with a mouth peice that only gagged me, in the night.
But the tongue in the roof of the mouth worked for me.
I still do it, It becomes a habit once you start it.
I don't have the face pain I use to.
only on occasions when I have a real tense day.
But I get my tongue in place and it stars releaving it right away.

Try it and let me know how it works.
    I hope it makes a differenece. :)
