Just had my followup visit with new lady Rheumy to go over all tests done on initial visit and get her diagnosis and treatment plan.
She said FM (duh! I have had that diagnosis for 10 years) and her treatment plan was STOP all meds, EXERCISE, and learn to live with any pain tylenol did not resolve.
Needless to say I came home and made an appointment with a different doctor.
This doctor didn't have a clue to what my condition was like any more than Mel does. See his latest post... Just a little thought. Mel seems to like to stir up trouble but I can't excuse this ignorance in an MD.

You like to stir up trouble as much as Mel.

Freedom of speech makes it okay to say what we want here, but it is still a SUPPORT BOARD.

I hope you find a doctor who lets you have whatever treatment you are hoping for.

If I had cancer I would be entitled to my pain being treated. It wouldnt cure the disease and IS just covering up the symptoms but it is still the ethical thing to do.

Sorry Mel, but you dont have a clue to how bad it is for many of us if you really believe that regular exercise could be the answer for us. Your symptoms are nothing like ours. And yes there is free speech and you do have the right to say this but yes saying it does stir up trouble. If you think this is a shot at you I am sorry. I am just amazed that after reading these boards you could think most of us have the choice of lying on the couch a little tired or getting up and exercising. It seems like you do not understand how bad off many of us are.

I wait 3 months for an appointment with a "specialist". I must see her in order to be referred to her clinic's pain specialist. I tell her how exhausted I am and how much I hurt, and how by night I am sitting with tears running down my face from the pain, how I have battled this for so long, and she tells me to exercise and live with the pain. I couldnt exercise if my life depended on it at this point. Just going to the doctors had me bedridden for 3 days from the manipulations of my joints.
Since there are doctors out there who believe us and try to help us, when I am faced with a doctor who doesnt have a clue all I can think is that she is ignorant and doesnt know any better. Otherwise what doctor would tell someone to go home and do the exact thing that makes them worse and put up with the suffering. I though that relieving suffering was in the oath they took.

i do want to stick up for mel aliitle he dose no there are people here that are unable to do what he dose,i can hardly walk between the pain and my loss of balance and numbness in my legs,if i where to get on a nordic track id end up in the hospital,
what bothers me is that other people espeacilly drs think we sit around all day,and we are worse because we dont move in my case i have to move around i can not sit still or i feel my mucsles tightening up but i deffently cant join the arboics class at the ymca
its all about balance and personally i hope theses drs get a realy bad case of the flu this year so they just get a glimch of what we live with everyday,
and i agree about the fact if we had cancer we would be treated with cover ups ,but i will say in away ive envyed cancer patients because drs treat them with respect they are taken seriosley ,and they will either be cured or die they will not spend 20 years in pain.
