Saw a Rheumatologist today after seeing countless doctors, pain specialists, and orthopedists. My ortho suspected I had Fibromyalgia.
I feel constantly tired, even when sleeping fo 8 or 9 hours per night. My body was constantly hurting and it just kept feeling like it was worse. Nothing would help it....the closest I get to comfort is a warm bath with epsom salts and Tramadol.
I tried Lyrica, I felt a little better - but quickly gained 20 lbs and was always hungry. I knew that couldn't be good for my I stopped it.
I'm always in pain, but some days are absolutely dreadful. Today has not been too bad.

So, I really like my new Rheum - he is not very into medication...but prescribed me cymbalta and told me to work on managing stress 1st thing, come back in 2 months. He was very "no nonsense" & let me know my pain isn't in my head. I'm not depressed or have any mental disorders..but I was starting to wonder what was wrong with me & I have felt a little sad lately due to being in pain so much. And after countless steroid injections, medications, and even nerve ablation - I finally know why nothing helped.
I also have endometriosis..which I have read might be linked to fibro?
Anyway, just like to say hello here and has anyone tried Cymbalta with any benefit?

I'm a 28 year old, married female - no case anyone is interested :)

I went to all the same doctors, I was depressed, was given Cymbalta for depression, and also supposed to help the pain.
It did not help my pain or depression, I'm taking Wellbutrin XL, and Lexapro. It works better for me, but Cymbalta may work for you. You should give it a try.
Don't feel bad about the depression, I think it comes from the pain and not being able to do the things you use to do.
Hope you get better, God bless.

Bean's Mom, I am also new to the Fibro world. Just recently diagnosed and Dr. put me on Cymbalta for 2 months to see how it would work. I was particularly having lots of problems sleeping every night...didn't really sleep...seemed like I was partially awake all night find out that is perhaps part of what causes/results from Fibro. However, first 6 weeks of Cymbalta didn't seem to help but after that I have noticed a change in my severity and frequency of pain a little, but most of all I notice I am sleeping better. I still am having "episodes" (they call them flares) like last weekend, but I amn going to keep using the Cymbalta to see what happens next.

Please know, the pain and exhaustion are terrible....thought I was crazy (or just newly retired "terrible lazy") until I saw a commercial about FM...then went immediately to my doctor.he gave me the test and is doing some other tests to rule out other causes, but believes it is FM.

Good luck to you, let me know how you are doing and I will let you know to.

I personally did not have luck with Cymbalta, but there are many people here who have. Not only is it supposed to help with the depression that can come along with dealing with this DD, but it also has pain relieving qualities. I wasn't particularly depressed when I was prescribed it, had more of a low-level anxiety.

I have since become more depressed - a year later and am happy to have something to take (Lexapro)Although I try to have a positive outlook everyday, sometimes it's hard to deal with all of the emotions and physical pain that comes with Fibro.

I wish you luck - I hope Cymbalta is wonderful for you!

I am dealing with CFIDS and my Dr. put me on Cymbalta for pain, brain fog, etc. I was not depressed, that I knew of (though I could easily become depressed dealing with all this!) but she felt this would help me. I had terrible nausea and headaches as my body adjusted to the med, but knew this could happen as I have a friend on Cymbalta (for something else) she told me to try and stick it out, which I did. I am on 60mg QD and have noticed a huge difference in my ability to think, concentrate and focus (before, having a conversation was almost impossible) and definite reduction in that all-over-ache. I also find that it kills my appetite, or rather, made my already faltering appetite worse and I have lost some weight since going on it. HTH!

    I am 37, married with 3 kids under 7yo.

I've been on it for 4 months and like it. My two side effects are loss of appetite(yeah!) and constipation(boo!). I was on Prozac before this and like Cymbalta much better. My emotions are not covered up so much as when I was on Prozac. I only recently started having the pain(4 months ago). I still take Advil when I'm in pain but at least I don't need a stronger RX for it. Don't want to get hooked on pain meds. I mostly suffer from fatigue, consentration, memory, fog etc.

Stay on it and give it a try.

    Best of luck to you,
