    Hi There everyone

I just signed up as a new member. I am not quite sure just what I am looking for right now. Just support I think. I have known for about 5 years now that I have cfs/fm but getting a diagnosis in a smal northern town where the majority of doctors are just visiting doctors is very difficult. I can not tell you the frustration I have been feeling. In my job i have to work shift work and right now I am having one of the worst flare up ever. Unable to sleep more than three hours at a time. Most peope don't understand what we go through. I find especially the doctors judge you as soon as you mention the word cfs/fm. I am just a little frustrated tonight and needed to vent. Any advice would sure help, and be appreciated

    Thanks so much

Welcome to the board. There are lots of nice people here who can share their experiences and info.

You can find articles on various topics in the library (purple, above). Also see the post "What helped Me" for newcomers.

    Hi, Granny of 2,

If you're looking for support, you've come to the right place for sure! I know it is frustrating living in a small town (southern for me...Arkansas)and trying to get a diagnosis. Worse yet, trying to get treatment when there really is not too much that can be done, and the doctors are frustrated, too.

There are some things they can prescribe for pain and muscle spasms however that can make your life a bit less miserable, if that's the course you have in mind. Mine also gives me ambien for sleep, and it helps me to get to sleep pretty fast, but it doesn't keep me asleep as long as it is supposed to. But at the sleep clinic, they told me it usually is good for about 5 to 7 hours.

I understand about doctor's judging you in a small town when you mention you have FM/CFS. It happened to me all the time when I moved to small town Arkansas from big city Dallas, TX. But don't let that stop you from going and finding a doctor who will listen to you. If you can find one who is willing to learn, that's when you have found a good one.

All the best to you, Granny. Anytime you need support or anything, this is your haven, and we all are here to help. I'll be looking for your posts, now.

Have you always lived up North?

Best of health and peace to you, granny!
    Hugs,
    Lew

Welcome!! Many of us here have excellent doctors. If you fill in you bio some members may be able to refer you to a good doctor in your area.

For some of us it has taken a long time to find a good doctor. My doctor is in S. Calfornia but sees patients from all over the US.

He is very compassionate and treats many fibromyalgia patients. One drug that has helped me is Ultram along with Tylenol Gel Caps. I actually had quite a flare today and stayed in bed for the first time in almost a year.

In the past I found opiates to be the best for pain, unfortunately I could not tolerate the side effects.

Hi and welcome. Sorry to hear you are having difficulty in finding a doctor. That can really make all the difference. I hope you find one soon. Try an arthritis doc, they are usually informed about fibromyalgia. Until you find a doc. and proper medications, maybe you could try some Tylenol Nighttime ?? something to help with pain, and sleeping. Maybe you could look in your phone book for sleep specialists, and they could refer you to a doc who knows how to treat fibro. Also, there are some chiropractors that are knowledgable about fibro. Good luck to you. Look forward to seeing you here on the forum (ps, I'm a grandma of 2 also !!)

I sad to hear about your experiance with Doctors. And I am sad to say that there are still many doctors who live in big cities and still treat people who have fibro and CFS the same.

Some where between a second hand citiezn and the only reason you come to see them is for drugs. At least that is what I have learned about doctors.

I am sorry that you have this DD along with the rest of us.
Life with Fibro and CFS is hard and you have to learn to understand your self and how your life has or will change.
But here you will find more infromation that any where I have looked. So welcome to the board.

    HUGS<
