    Posting this for whatever help it gives to those who need "pain management";

    Haven't read beyond the MedScape article itself, so not sure if the actual article ACTUALLY also discusses how pts SHOULD BE helped with pain with ultimately whatever helps them. Tho they did give a graded management guideline.

    Practice Guidelines for Chronic Pain Management:
    An Updated Report by the American Society of Anesthesiologists Task Force
    on Chronic Pain Management and the
    American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine*

    From Medscape:
    April 1, 2010 — For the first time in more than a decade, an American Society of Anesthesiologists task force has updated its chronic pain guidelines.

    The new recommendations are designed to help clinicians who treat pain. The objectives are to optimize pain control, enhance physical and psychological well-being, and minimize adverse outcomes.

    The recommendations apply to patients with chronic noncancer, neuropathic, somatic, or visceral pain. The taskforce focused on interventional diagnostic procedures including diagnostic joint block, nerve block, and neuraxial opioid trials.

    the full guidelines can be found here:
