I've been reading the postings for the past few days and now am ready to take the plunge and post. I'd been having what I identify as joint related pain on and off since the summer of 2005. Got progressively worse in my hands and feet last August and my doctor diagnosed me with rheumatoid arthritis (even though no positive blood work or swelling) - I had pain on both sides - both hands and both feet and sometimes knees. then I went to Stanford for some follow up diagnosis and they said, nope, not RA. The doc asked me several times about the anti-depressent I'm on, said things about mid-life, hormones and dismissed me without any recourse about why I felt such pain. By this time the pain had spread to knees (really bad!), shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips - you name it, it hurt at one time or another. I also began having periods of fatigue that now happen every day.

So, I'm very frustrated about now. My GP has put me on ultram and tylenol for pain (helps on okay days, not on really bad ones) but doesn't seem very motivated to figure out what's wrong. I've been doing reading on the net about fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, but I don't really know if I have either of these, or what to do to figure it out.

    Can anyone help?

Hi, I have had FM for several years and was just diagnosed in the past 2. I had to go to several doctors for my diagnosis. I suggest that if your doctor doesn't seem concerned then maybe it is time to go on to the next. I was finally diagnosed by a rheumatologist and sent to a pain specialist because no one was comfortable prescribing the amount of pain medication that I am on. That was the best thing that ever happened because my pain specialist keeps very good tabs on me and my medications. He is very compassionate. Good luck and I hope you find someone to help you soon.
