I haven't seen a specialist for fibro since I was diagnosed back in 2000. I Think the reason I have been so resistant to seeing a specialist is because when I was dx'd not alot was known about fibro and even doctors didn't realize it is a serious condition and not something they just diagnose when they can't find anything else wrong with the patient. I felt like the doctors thought I was one of those whiny, emotional patients, and the doctors treated me like crap.

I've seen pain management doctors but the last pain doc told me that I was "wasting taxpayers dollars by having all these tests done" and he was the one that ordered the tests, not me! So, as you can imagine, I don't trust doctors. So, I've just been getting my meds prescribed by my primary care doc which is just not working any more because I am on the maximum amounts of meds and my pain is debilitating.

So, I have decided to see a specialist and I just want to know what are the new treatments out there and I want to know what you have tried and what has worked.

So, you're taking thyroid meds even though you do not have hypothyroidism? I think I heard of that once. And it works?

I called around to about 50 docs in my area and I couldn't find a doc who specializes in fibro, they all send me back to my PC and my PC doesn't know a whole lot about fibro. I'm getting really frustrated.

I'll ask him about thyroid meds but I don't know if he'll go for it but something has to change.

Are not the only criteria docs use. My tests were in the "normal" range but my doc prescribed the lowest dose of Synthroid (I have no problems making T3). It helped with the fatigue and followup tests show that I'm even more "normal" now. If a doc runs tests, he or she needs to run the whole gamut to get a complete picture.
