I'm thinking about planning a trip to Niagra Falls with a dear friend of mine. I have always heard that the Canadian side is much nicer and cleaner than it is on our side. I have no idea if that is true or not, but I do know getting a passport is a royal pain these days. I'm not sure if we should put in the paperwork and see how long it takes to get a passport or just plan the trip on this side. Anybody have any imput?

I'm not biased (not Canadian) but I swear the Canadian side is the only side!

If you are driving to the falls, you can get a 'special' passport that is cheaper and faster. If you are flying, then be prepared to wait.

I too live near the falls. The Canadian side is much better in view and MUCH more commercialized. There is not much to the American side. You have Goats island with a nice view, restaurants, gift shops, etc...

There is a big casino on the American side but a dumpy neighborhood all around it. It kind of looks like the casino sucked the life out of the neighborhood.

My husband and I took a drive up their for our 20th anniversary last summer. The Canadian side is better all around. We walked across. It seemed quicker than trying to drive. I think customs are stricter now. Look into it before you go. I think right now you need a drivers liscense and a birth certificate. Soon it will be a must for a passport.

No contest. However it's more expensive. Everything's more expensive in Canada.

    Enjoy your trip:~) doloresf1

well, not to long ago it was the opposite way around.
it is nicer on this side ( Canada ) lots more to see and do.
if you end up coming over...I really hope you enjoy it!

    Love to all, Ann

for all your imput. The results were 100% for the Canadian side so I think if my friend and I are going to go we should do it right. I recently talked to a family member who said passports are the way to go now-a-days so I'm going to begin that process.

Once again thanks for the advice, I'm looking forward to the trip :)

I prefer the Mexican side myself, thought it's just a trickle by the time it gets here.

Hope you have a great trip, and if you go over in a barrel, let us know!
