I have what apppears to be a whitehead on my face that has been there for some time. Any ideas on how to get rid of it?

If it feels like it is under the skin some, I know what you are talking about, but I don't know the name for them. I have some small ones on my face and they are deep and really not whiteheads.

You could try to use an acne med. Mary Kay makes a really good one called Acne Treatment Gel, but you have to be so careful you don't get it on any of your clothes or it will bleach the clothes in a heart beat.

Be frank, I don't think the acne med will work on this. If you find out what it is called let me know.

Speaking of skin, does anyone have what looks like raised places that sort of look like pimples, but aren't? I don't know if they are related to FMS or not.

Wish I could help you with this.

    Big hugs,
    Faye ;-)

for your input. It is a white spot on my face that is raised and I found some "natural" remedies on the internet, one of which consisted of shredded potatoes to put on your face! I think I will try my Mary Kay green goop on it.

This one is a facial scrub/mask. I had one from MK years ago that would zap a pimple overnight. Just put it on before bed and BINGO it was gone the next morning. This does not work the same and I don't think they have that one any longer, because it WAS one of the facial scrubs that they carried.

This one is green with what looks like black sand in it. You should see me in it! Hey, that might be a good pic to post here...

Maybe people could go to their SSDI hearings in it too!!! Mary Kay could really branch out with this stuff...

Oh, sorry, I got carried away! Can't wait to get home an scrub my face now.

If it is a regular whitehead and you have more than one you could try a strong acne soap and follow it with a swiping with a Stridex/Phisohex (not sure of spelling) pad afterwards. I used to use it for acne and never had an acne problem after that.

Well, I really don't remember Mary Kay carrying that product as I just became a consultant in 1999. I don't sell, just use it for myself. I have used the MK line since 1989.

I never knew MK had anything like that, that you could sleep in. The only masks that I know of have to be removed after a certain period of time. Good luck with that.

    Huge hugs,

I am curious to know where or not your face has red blotches or not? I would mostly look for the redness around your nose, on your cheeks etc. My mom has the whiteheads that have been mentioned. They would not go a way no matter how much she tried. Finally she went to the doctor who told her that those white heads are a part of roseacea (Spelling?)

My mom goes to see a specialist who uses a special lazer on her face. They zap those white heads and about half a day to a day later they come out all by themselves. She also uses a special medicine on her face to help keep them from reoccuring so often.

My mom have uneven olive toned skin. She did not even realize that she has roseacea. But now she is on the right track. You might want to give your doctor a call to see if you would need to be seen by him first before you go to see a skin specilist.

    Best wishes,

I have an "extractor", it's metal & designed to "extract" whiteheads & blackheads. Try a drug store or a Sally's store for one of these.

I would recommend firstly that you start giving yourself mini facials at home.

Wash you face, boil water, remove from heat & steam your face with a towel over the hot water. (Unless you are lucky enough to have a personal facial steamer).

After steaming lightly use the extractor to remove blemishes.

You can use a cold cream or a massage cream (Sally's stores should carry the Queen Helene massage cream, cucumber I think & they are cheap) & massage your face all over. It should feel enjoyable & you can massage for quite some time.

Wash off the massage cream, apply a good mask (Queen Helene makes a Mint Julep green mask). Remove mask when fully dry, tone & moisturize!

If you can do this once a week your skin should REALLY improve. It will speed up the blemishes that are building under the surface & bring them to the surface sooner. (They were going to get there sooner or later anyway!)

As far as a spot treatment, I love those little round sticky patches you stick on a blemish overnight. Neutrogena makes good ones (I think).

    Hope that helps!

They are called Milia, not whiteheads. Can you squeeze them out? Is it sore around it like a pimple? Milia can't be squeezed out and are not sore or tender around it. The skin completely covers it. The only way to remove them is with a needle and pick them out.I went to a Spa and that's the way they removed them!No kind of creams help them. When removed they come right back!! They can do skin peels but I have MCS and couldn't do that. Hugsabug said something about Laser and I would be interested in knowing more about that.
Where do you get the Laser treatments and how much do they cost? Help Hugabug!!!

Do you mean this little bitty hard white bumps? I get them around my eyes on the soft skin under them and on my eyelids. They don't hurt or get bigger or anything, they are just there.

I did pick some off once with a needle, but they are in such tender places that I mostly just ignore them. Besides it got so sore for a few days that I decided having them was better than tearing them off!

When I have taken one off it is kind of a hard center that is white, like a hard little round ball smaller than the head of a pin.

I probably have 10 or 12 of them and just ignore them.

the big, red, sore kind, using a hot compress on it several times a day will cause it to either go away or develop a hard center that can be removed.

    Regarding your question:

"Does anyone have what looks like raised places that sort of look like pimples, but aren't?"

Yes, I have gotten quite a few on my face and have no idea what they are. I have never had any problems with my face, either -- so blemishes or anything.

All of a sudden, they were just there! They are all on the sides of my chin it seems.

If you find out what they are, please let me know!!!!

I have that too, the look of a mustache but it is like the skin on my lip is darker. I do have hair there, most everyone has short fine white hairs all over their face, but it appears to be the skin on mine as well.

I am curious if anyone knows anything about it. You might want to start a separate post if you don't get any response on this thread.

yes, it is a hard white spot. It is not sore and I have not tried to squeeze it, but have picked at it with my fingernail (does not hurt) because it sticks up like a scab would.

I will try the needle tonight. Last night I did the acne pad, the Mary Kay face stuff and this morning I did the mud mask and the acne med. The white spot and the pimple under it are both still there today.

I was really ignoring the white spot until the pimple came in under it and I started thinking about getting rid of both.

I am thinking it might be from the self tanner I use on my face, that it might have clogged a pore or something.

I have never seen a dermatologist about these bumps on my face. Makeup will cover them pretty much, but I have a few on my legs and one on my neck. The neck was the first one I ever got.

I thought they may be related to diabetes.

If I could get off my lazy butt, I'd go to a dermatologist, just to find out what they are. I have scratched them off and they came back, so I doubt laser surgery would do any good.

I even have some on my feet and my family doc only said they were benign. That was a previous family doc I had.

I'll let you know, if I ever find out.

These happen when your oil glands are over active, and plug up your poor with sloughed off skin flakes. Eventually, you body encases the foreinng object, to protect you from it, and hence leaves you with a white bump. I was told to use a steamer if available, or to use warm, wet cloths on the area for 20 mins, then use a large needle to poke through the encasement. The using tissue wrapped around your ring fingers from both hands, gently ease the white "ball" of ick out of the pore. It takes a lot of time, but you need to do this as slowly and carefully as possible so as not to create a scar. Thenk you need to start cleaning your face with something like AHA's or Benzoyle Peroxide. Anything that is going to help you slough the dead skin cells before they end up getting stuck in another poor. I sure do hope that this was of help to someone!

I have had a bump like that for close to 10-11 years now on my leg (above knee on inner thigh side). I don't think it has to do with fibro because my husband just recently got one on the top of his shin and he doesn't have fibro. I asked the dr. once and he said not to worry unless it changes color or size. Mine hasn't changed. If you hear of what they are or are caused by please let me know too.

    and all :)

sorry to say,..I got a few of those too~
Mostly my chin area or around the mouth.
    They are 'whiteheads' I beleive.
And they are stubborn to get rid of!!
I've tried every kind of acne med I can get my hands on and nothing has helped.
The acne meds helped any pink/pimples or zits I may get,.... but not these freakin whiteheads!!
    I tried sqeezing them(to be honest) :)
and nothing comes out~ Seems like they are too deep.??
    under skin.
I got a script for some topical cream thats made for rosecea,.. but my dr. said it also helps acne.
It did'nt help me at all.
Thank God my co-pay was only $5!! Its garbage! like all the others.

I'm kinda afraid to try a needle.
    I don't want scars left behind~?
    so,...anyhoo- your not alone.
    Wish I were more help

I went to Dermatologist and the name of them are "Milia".
They are small cyst that the skin grows over. No cream or topical gels will help them. It is oil and the skin grows over it and when you pick them out they are like hard grains of sand. I have removed many many of them and they come right back.I went to a Spa and that's what they did--picked them out. Several hundred dollars and they come right back. I would like to know about the Laser b/c there is no pain with Laser. Hugsbug said her Mother had that!! Maybe she'll tell us where to go! Put Milia in the Google search and you'll find out more about them.
