I've been on methadone 80mg total /day for approximately 15 years for PAIN NOT addiction. I first had both my temporomandibular joint arthroplasties done on in 1982 & 1983 but were only successful to a certain degree. My jaw would lock constantly. I was also diagnosed having severe fibromyalgia by a rheumatologist at The Hospital of the University of Pa. Phil,Pa. the doctor at that time suggested me to be put on some morphine sulfate continuos but my family doctor put me on methadone HCL because it's less expensive!I never did anything like heroine ,cocaine or any elicit drugs period. Methadone was used as a very last resort after having a lidocaine infusion for pain management done in 1994 .UNFORTUNATELY IT DID NOT WORK .BUT IF IT DID I WOULD HAVE BEEN PUT ON TONOCARD.you Remember PAIN MEDICNE WAS not any where it is today.I injured my back at work in 1994 my diagnosis then was lumbar spine radiculpoathy. I am not being seen again at Pain medicine center at The Hospital of the University of Pa. for reoccurring injury 2002 lumbar discogenic syndrome. My new family doctor who I asked to prescribe methadone for me refer me to a new Pain medicine doc because I have to travel 3 hours 1 way to get my meds. I don't understand why the Pain Medicine center in Phil,Pa. has no problem prescribing methadone HCL for pain .Yet this new doctor won't do it. My pain medicine doc is going to send a letter to my family doc telling what meds I take & that I don't abuse any medications.I want to know if subutex is also used to treat pain & what other options there are for treating my chronic pain. I want to think for my future & get off narcotics if I can. There are other medications out there .Any help what meds anyone takes for chronic pain is much appreciated. I do have to MAKE another appointment to see a comprehensive pain medicine specialist CLOSER TO HOME WHICH MY NEW DOCTOR GAVE ME A REFERAL but no appointment at this very moment.please give me any advice I live in northeastern Pa. Also where would someone go to get subutex prescribed for them

I used Subutex to get off MS Contin and it works fine. No withdrawals at all. My pain specialist said with his chronic patients, when they develop tolerance ot their pain meds he puts them on Subutex for a few months, then restarts the opiates.

They are able to get better pain relief at a lower dose.

Check out the following places that prescribe Subutex. You can contact them to be referred to a doctor help you. I don't know which ones might be near you so I will post what I found.

I am on the methadone 60 mgs/day. I take 10 mgs 6 times a day. I have been on it probably 1 1/2 years. At the time my Dr. put me on it, it was not sold in my state and I had to go across the state line to get it; he had told me this and told me where to go. But started me on lower dosage but had to increase due to pain.

I have lower back problems as well; diagnosed with lumbar spine radiculopathy but have read up on it and still don't understand it. Have the spondylosis also, and other problems.

My Dr. seems to think the methadone is fine but I haven't been on it as long as you have. I have also heard that it's very difficult to get off of this med; I dread that day.

There was another post somewhere here about the subutex. Maybe someone will respond and let you know where to locate it.

I hope you get some answers to what you need,

    Take Care,

I did say where to get Subutex in my post.
Are you also looking for Subutex?

I have not tried to locate the subutex as my Dr. and I are fine now. If he changes, it will be to another opiate, most likely, because of the pain; I don't think I could get up in the mornings nor make it through a day. However, if there WERE a way, I would go for it!

Thank you anyway and I'll remember the subutex just in case I ever need to try it.

    Thank you so much!!
