hopefully i can describe this ok...

lately, i've been having trouble with the top of my stomach, it's like it's the top most point of intestines, like in between my breasts, at the top of my ribcage.

i notice it especially when i eat something warm, or drink coffee. when i take a drink (or eat), it's like it pounds this spot, and it burns and hurts. it's almost like heartburn (i think), or bad indigestion.

i am on lortab, and have been on and off for the last year and half.

i've read how the tylenol in it can cause problems in the stomach for some.

has anyone had trouble with pain meds doing this?

and i know, my description isn't great, but can anyone relate?

just concerned becuase it feels like something is being eaten away in the top of my stomach.

    any help would be appreciated.

Does sound like GERD (heartburn), gallbladder or ulcer (or the start of one).

I'd suggest talking to a doctor, they could run tests to figure out what it is.

I've had this pain before too ... been waking up in pain with it on and off for nearly a year. Not fun!

I wasn't on any pain meds that could have created it.

Tandy also has another thread going on similar stomach pain (you can search her name and look) or search mine and look my posts back in May in my thread).

Hope that helps! I'd suggest researching those options online to see if they sound like you and scheduling a doc appt as soon as possible (just so you can get relief, I don't think you are in great danger or anything). Take care!

it doesn't contract and twist, although i've had that happen in my lower abdomen.

thanks so much for your replies. i'm definately going to mention it at my next appointment.

I have been having pain in top of my stomach. This goes along with bouts of diarrhea. I have GERD. I have a hiatal hernia. I do not even have a gallbladder.

I went to the doctor. They sent me to a specialist thinking I might have pancreatitis, cancer or Crohn's Disease.

After a CAT scan, panendoscopy and colonoscopy, I do not have any of the above-mentioned illnesses, but still don't know what I have. I was dismissed with "come back for another colonoscopy in three years."

Let us know what you find out.

Wow, Linda, I feel like starting a club for "unexplainable severe stomach pain problems"!! A couple other people on here have nearly the same symptoms as well.

I too have a possible GERD (diagnosed, but I have nontypical symptoms) a tiny hiatal hernia (according to specialists it is insignificant and could not possibly be causing me such pain) but my gallbladder is supposedly fine.

What works for you to help the pain? Anything?

I hope your doctor visit goes well!! I wish you luck in figuring out what's going on AND getting it taken care of. :)

    Happy tummy blessings to all.

i would like to join the club.
this burning pain in the top center area of my stomach is horrible to deal with..especially on top of the regular weak and sick feeling i already have. I also do not have a gallbladder. Yes, it seems there are a good few of us that are having this problem! I hope we can figure it out together. Recently my doctor suggested its my body's way of simply manifesting IBS (probably not but a last resort for her to suggest). Trying IBS pills instead of all those acid reducers. Ive only tried one pill due to my sensitivities to chemicals. It made me so drowsy.

Looking forward to hearing more from you all throughout this.

    Warm thoughts

I have C.F.S. and Fibromyalgia, c.f.s. started about 20 yrs ago, gradually getting worse, then Fibro about 10 years ago. All been a nightmare trying to find out what was wrong, lot's of visits to docs, finally diagnosed 2005. Anyway, I've taken LOTS and still do take all sorts of meds and I have that feeling exactly as you describe and have put off mentioning it to Doc as wonder if it might be start of an ulcer. I do have IBS, as well as just about every symptom in the book! At the moment I am taking, Citalopram (anti-depressant 40mg) Amitriptyine 20mg also an anti-d, but it's used for sleep and pain, ha! sooo doesn't help!!)I also take paracetamol with extra codeine and have tried many other drugs but they just made me worse!! I have probs with gluten and wheat. I take all sorts of other supplements to try and help. I wonder if I take too much but just have too!!! It sucks doesn't it?! I think I will have to see doc, but dread camera being put down throat!! ARRGH!. So what do you have wrong with you? I hope your day hasn't been too bad? I live in UK and I can't find a decent doc, see a lot of clinics on line in USA, wish I could pop over for a year?!! Guess we should ceck out those weird pains hey?

P.S. take diazepam as well, my cupboard is like a pharmacy!!

and mentioned the pain in my stomach.

her first reaction was to ask me if i take my pain med with food. she said that long term use of pain med can cause eating of the the stomach lining. i believe it's the acetamitfen (sp) in it.

she also asked if i still had my gall bladder (i do).

then said to just keep an eye on it, and if it gets worse, or constant to let her know, and we'll take a look at it.

she also said, beings i have an imflammatory condition, it could cause my organs to be more sensitive, which could cause the pain and discomfort, and that there are alot of muscles and such in that area, that could also cause it

i've had so many odd symptoms that pop up, that last for awhile, then go away. maybe it's one of those weird things. i'll be keeping my eye on it.

to the last poster (sorry i have a serious case of brain fog going on right now =)... i have fibromyalgia, and have had it bad for a little over a year. i believe i've had a form of it since a child, but it would only "flare" up a couple times a year. now it is way more constant.

i wish you all well. <3

Well I'm glad she's checking in with you and listening to what you have to say. That's about the same response I got when my pain first started more mildly and sporadically.

Definitely meds can eat away your stomach lining.

I hope it completely disappears randomly! I too would have weird symptoms that would come and go frequently ... I know it's frustrating, but I hope THIS time it works in your favor by just having it go away. :)

So I'm noticing from my searching on here that virtually all the people mentioning this type of sharp belly pain have FM (and not just CFIDS).

This is leading me to think that if doctors can't find a specifica cause (GERD, hiatal hernia, gallbladder issues, etc) we might be having muscle spasms internally, which is characteristic of fibro.

My belly pain is mostly solved (I haven't had an attack in a couple weeks, but I get them really randomly in the middle of the night). I'm beginning to be convinced it's fibro related (a side issue of mine through have CFIDS, but was never the center stage issue to fix).

I'm confused why no medical people have thought of this. Out of the 2 nurse practitioners, one medical doctor, two specialists in gastroenterology, etc. Guess no one thought of that since I've mainly reported have CFIDS (not FM).

    Food for thought.

    definately makes sense.

i get the weirdest spots having muscle spasms. for instance, lately i've been getting them in the muscles around and underneath my breasts. it's the weirdest and most uncomfortable feeling.

so it totally makes sennse that it could be muscles in those areas that we're not use to always feeling, because it's hard to work those ones out.=)

And hard to reach them! :) We can't exactly dig our hands into our rib cage to reach the offending muscles.

I've been having weird ones under my boobs too!! Like twitches ...

I just read online that the change in season can trigger more muscle spasms and cramps ... it's the temperature change, apparently our bodies don't know what to do about it. So that could explain why I'm having more all over body pain and spasms now (that and the ridiculous amount of stress in my life right now ... haahaha ... good luck doctor telling me to "decrease your stress level" I find that hilarious)

Well, at least we know we're not alone. :)

i love being able to talk and relate to those like me.

the temperature change definately has an effect on me. i've been feeling alot more muscle tension, and also that "achy fare-like" feeling. yuk. not looking forward to the even colder weather.=(

so much of my misery comes from my gut.
the rest of my body aches fall short behind~
I'm in the process of of tons of testing.
so far I've had a abdominal cat scan, colonoscopy, cystoscopy(bladder),of course bloodwork, urodynamics and a minor laproscopy surgery. a few things were found but nothing that points directly at one thing making my stomach kill me at times.
(and enlarged gallbladder was found) I also have GERD and IBS. oh,..and throw diverticula in there for fun too.
    and endometriosis.
now *I'm laughing at myself cause I guess I do have reason for some pain.
when I get any clear cut real DX's I'll post again.
all these test were done recently.
I'm sick to death of testing & drs.
    your not alone~
hope you get some answers too soon,
