Hi my name is Kathryn I'm new to this website. I was diagnosed with FM 2 years ago. I'm in pain all the time. The kind of pain that keeps you on the couch just crying all day no matter what. I exercise the way I was taught to in PT but still the pain I currently take Vicodin but it really doesn't help any more. I would be very interested to learn other FM sufferes take or do to ease the pain. thank you Kathryn

I know haow you feel, I too have FMS and other stuff. Pain? That's my middle name..my pain mgt. doc. started me out on 4 Lorcet 10 mg. per day. I too got use to that, basically it only helps about 3 hrs. a day. But at my last appt. they gave me the Neurontin. It has helped and sounds like that could help you too. I take both meds and that is what helps my pain. One with out the other would not help. You need to ask you doctor for something stronger and something for break through pain. Hope this helps. Pamela

You must be my long lost identical twin sister! Glad to finally meet you. I think we must be the only Kathryns in the world who spell our names this way.
As far as the pain meds go, we are all different, so what works for one of us, might put the next in the ICU. I take Neurontin, 300mg, 3 times a day, Zanaflex, 4mg, twice a day, and Darvocet N 100, Only when I absolutely have to have it, as I am allergic to almost every painkiller known to medical science.
Please fill out your profile when you have a chance so we can get to know you.

I take Mobic, Ultram, Soma, Neurontin and Oxycontin for my pain..........BAD pain!!!!
I didn't ask for any of these and I waited forever to go to a doctor about my chronic pain, but all of these are necessary to keep me comfortable! I never thought I'd be taking this kind of medicine!! I'm a nurse and I know what the Healthcare profession used to think of "druggies" like me! LOL I am kidding, of course. I'm far from anything like that, I assure you, but there are some who would think so if they knew what I was taking!
    Love and welcome!

Used to think people taking drugs were druggies. But as others have said these are medications for a specific purpose. The relief of pain. I take Ultram and Oxycontin, X-tylenol or vioxx Flexeril, and Ambien for sleep. Others are Nadh, multivit and going to incl. vit-c Calcium and mag... I hope you find something that works for you. After you go off the Vicodin for a while it will probably start to work for you again.
Prayers are going up for you and your Docs..
    Love and huggs Selma

Hi Kathryn, sorry to hear you are hurting so badly. I have been on Vicodin for quite awhile. Every once in a while I have to cut back on the dosage for a bit, and then I can increase and get the desired pain relief. I also take Ultram, and Klonopin.

Hello! this kind of pain is different. I never knew there could be this kind of pain until fibro. I take oxycontin ,neurontin, lortabs for breakthrough pain and klonopin for night pain. There is no such thing as "pain free" but you have to have better pain control than you are getting. I go to a pain specialist and I`m afraid he is getting chicken to give oxycontin. I hope I will not have problems with him because until I got it the pain was terrible as you know. Talk to your doctor and tell him exactly how bad your pain is and that you need more help.Good luck to you!!

Hi and welcome! I am currently on Oxycontin and Hydrocodone 10mg/325mg. (the eqivilant of two regular strength vicodin). I use the hydrocodone for break-through pain, and the oxycontin is a long acting drug, supposed to last for up to 12 hrs. I also take soma for muscle aches-twitches, and tightness. On occasion, when I get real bad I will add Klonopin, but only at night because it makes me real tired. I take Prozac and elavil for the depression and to help me sleep at night. The better nights' sleep I get the less pain I have!!!!
Remember that what works for one of us doesn't mean it will work for someone else.
Good luck, and welcome to the best place you'll ever find for FMS/CFS.

I started out with Aleve over the counter, it worked for a little time. It ate holes in my stomach though.

I then went onto Tylenol 3's, they didnt do nothing. Then the Tylenol 4's--again no relief whatsoever. It took a long time like a year to get the med upped to a vicodin. I take the lower dosed vicodin. It works for a hour or so, sometimes not at all.

I have tryed skelaxin along with ultram for TMJ pain. I worked for a bit, then again stopped working.

I am going to a pain management clinic. I would like to exercise once again, but then dont want to pay for it with pain again and again. I think oxycontin I would like to try.
I would like to have just a few hours with no pain. Not too much to ask is it?

Hi Kathryn, so sorry to hear of your constant pain. I'm in the same boat, except with a different dx. I had non paralytic polio when I was 5 (54 now!), and started with hip pain in my 'longer' leg 15 yrs ago. I've been on Vicodin since then. I started out with plain old Vicodin, progressed to ES, progressed to HP, where I am now. I take 1 every 4 hrs., prophylactically, as my doctor said it's a good way to handle the immense pain I suffer. I wish there was another choice of meds, as this makes me jump back & forth with diarrehea & constipation. I never know which will hit or when. My orthopedic surgeon says they won't do hip replacement surgery until I'm 60!! I think he needs a shrink!!! 6 more years of this pain?? Don't know if I can handle it! Fondly, Terr

I'M REALY SORRY ABOUT YOUR PAIN AS I NOW HOW YOU FEEL. I WAS FINALLY DIAGNOSISED WITH FIBRO IN NOVEMBER OF 2002, BUT WAS DISABLED BEFORE THAT WITH DEGENERATIVE DISK DISEASE, SPINAL STENOSIS, CERVICAL SPONDLYLISIS, SCIATIC PAIN. IHAVE BEEN ON METHADONE FOR THE PAST ALMOST 2 YEARS. I ALSO TAKE LORCET PLUS 10/650. MY BODY HAS JUST ABOUT BECOME USE TO THIS MEDICATION SO I STILL HAVE PAIN. AS OF TODAY I STARTED TAKING NEUROTIN 100MG 3 TIMES A DAY. I TRIED TO TAKE THE 300MG CAPSULES BUT THEY SPACED ME OUT. SO WE WILL SEE HOW THE NEUROTIN WORKS. I KNOW IT DID HELP OUT ALREADY TONIGHT WITH THE PAN. GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND WELCOME TO THE BOARD. JANICE

I am currently on Maxidone, however even it does not seem to be strong enough to help ease my pain. Just takes the edge off. I know a lot of others take Oxycontin with good results. Many more take a pain medicine 2 or 3 times a day, every day, then have a different pain medicine that they use in addition when they get breakthrough pain. This seems to be a very effective treatment protocol. My advice would be to print out this message thread and take it to your doctor to discuss some of these medicines with him/her and see if you can try something until you find one that helps you more. I am still on that quest myself. Good luck! I feel your pain and understand.

    Hugs,
    Anita
