Hi! I have been dealing with these issues since the early 80s so obviously I have been thru so many different medications I don't even want to list them!! I have used so many different anti-inflammatory meds and ended up with bleeding ulcers a couple times! Finally, I have a rheumy that seems to really care! She does not prescribe narcotic pain meds until all else has failed! I didn't really appreciate that in the beginning but really who wants to take more meds than they need anyway? I take 10 mg of Flexeril 2 hours before bedtime. I also take: Vioxx 25 mg once a day, Prozac 60 mg a day. This combination works the best of any combo taken in 20 years!!! I don't really understand how that Flexeril makes such a difference for me, but it does!!! My pain was 24/7 until I started this one addl pill!!! I feel so lucky that I finally found this dr!! I also make sure she knows that! Hope this helps someone out on their journey! Peace To All, Flamingo

    Hi Pamela:
I have been taking for 4 years:
Ultram 50 mg,1-2 three times a day. However, I only take one in the am and one in pm, if I need it. Usually just one a day. I also take one tylenol with it, and it works like ultracet only cheaper.
I take Restaid for sleep - 2 tablets one hour before bedtime. This is an herbal remedy over the counter that contains valerian, hops, and passion flower, and really works!!!
    hope this helps. sue

Thank you to everybody who is responding..maybe I can get some relief and help by showing my doc. what other doc.'s are prescribing. Did not mean to write my post in all upper case letters. I'm not shouting just thought it looked neat. Pamela Keep them coming!!!!

On good days I take 50 mg. of Ultram morning, and another 50mg. late afternoon, with .5mg of Klonopin at Bedtime.

On not so good days--100mg. Ultram morning, 100mg Ultram late afternoon, with .5mg Klonopin at Bedtime

On Bad days I take Hydrocodone w/apap 5/500
one tablet two times daily. .5mg klonopin bedtime

On Really bad days--2 tablets Hydrocodone--2-3 x's daily, with .5 mg klonopin at bedtime.

I also very seldom, now, take a .5mg dose of Klonopin during the day, if I am experiencing nerve pain, jerking, and twitching, etc.

By far the opiods offer me the best pain relief--the ultram is just not sufficient, and I feel I am undermedicated on it. My mobility, ability to function, pain relief, and clear headedness, etc. is much greater on the hydrocodone.

Lortab 10/500 and Soma 350 twice a day on a really good day; 3 times a day on an average day, and 4 times a day on a bad day. My rx are for every 6 hours.

I also take 8 mg Zanaflex with 10 mg Elavil at night before bed.

Just took my 3rd Lortab for the day. Don't know if it's just not as effective as I thought it would be, but lately it's taking 3 doses just to get through the work day.

Doesn't matter how often I take it, it never gets rid of the pain. Best case scenario is getting it down to a 3 on a scale of 1 - 10, but lately if I can keep it at a 5, I'm doing well.

    Neurontin - 300mg, 3 times a day
    Vioxx - 25mg, 2 times a day
    Zanaflex - 4mg, 1 - 2 times a day
Darvocet N 100 - Only as needed - I am allergic to most pain meds and am trying not to build up a tolerance for this one.
    Protonix - 40mg, 1 per day
    OTC
Tylenol - too many per day
    Hope this helps you

Ultram - 2 of the 50mg tabs 4xdaily (this is the maximum recommended dose which I have worked up to over time. If I'm having a lot of pain at bedtime I'll take one extra strength tylenol)
    Effexor - 25mg every morning
Klonopin - .5 mg at bedtime
    Ambien -10 mg at bedtime

I'm taking Methadone 10mg 2 or 3 times a day, plus I take 2 or 4 Lorcet Plus 10/650 each day. I was given a choice of how I wanted to take this medication by the way the RX was written. I also just started taking Neurotin 100mg 3 times a day trying to work myself up to a higher dose. Today I took 4 100mg capsules. My rheumy told me to ask my phaarmacist how they write up liodicane creme and he would write me a script for that but he told me I would have to be very careful on how much I got absorded in my skin. He told me the dangers of it and with this fibro fog I can't remember the dangers. I guess my pharmacist would know.
Hope this helps you. Do you go to a pain specialist?? This is the best place to get your medications. They deal with our thpe of chronic pain.

I have tried Ultram, Ultracet, Tylenol with codine, Tylox with little help. Now I am Taking Darvocet and it seems to be doing the best so far. Also I tried zanaflex as a muscle relaxant, but find Soma works better. A muscle relaxant is crucial along with a pain reliever. Sorry I don't know thw dosages but i take them constantly every 4-6 hours, sometimes even at night. On better days I try to do without. At least untill you cam manage the pain to a point where you might consider alternate things like massage etc.Doctors don't understand that the pain is such a constant that some of us will need pain meds our whole lives, and some will need them to control the pain enough to even consider thinking rationally about something else to try.

    Good Luck.
Doc's who don't prescribe pain meds may not believe in your pain andyou may want to keep searching untill you find one who does.

    Love,

Thanks to every one that replied. Yes, I do go to a pain mgt. specialist and i'm working on really communicating w/ her when I see her next Fri. -

I am just trying to get all this pain to go away. It is so aggrivating and painful even w/ the Lorcet 10, 4 x's per day. Any more responses would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks a million!!! Pamela

I recently was looking for same type of info and I found a website which I won't name here but if you do a search for "pie chart for medication results" in quotes (I use MSN search engine), the first hit should be for a list of meds most commonly taken by FMers which may also give you an idea of whats most popular from the surveys taken.

Im still working on geting my pain meds right too because of so many adverse reactions but this is what I take now:

Neurontin - 300mg at bedtime, 100mg 2-3 times in daytime depending on how bad I hurt - works good for nerve pain which seems to be worse since starting therapy for myofascial trigger points (TrP)

Klonopin (for anxiety but also helps tension pain) - .5 mg a day broken down in quarters...1/2 in am and 1/2 in pm

    Ibuprofin 800mg - 1 a day
for pain/inflammation for TrP therapy cuz it always causes inflamation with me but I really need to get off this -I've been taking it too long and concerned about kidneys. Also if you have any kind of stomach problem with this be sure to ask dr. for something like Prilosec to protect stomach.

Mirapex (for restless leg syndrome pain) - .5 at 7pm

Thats it for now. I'm like you, some days it's just not enough but I must say it's better since starting Klonopin which I still take in small doses since I'm so sensitive.
    Good Luck!!

I currently take Vicodin, sometimes up to six per day, Effexor 150mg at night, Zanafles 4 mg at night, Alprazolam .5 mg as needed but no more than one every 6 hours, Sinemet for RLS, Ambien 5mg at night if needed. I think that's all that I take that relates to the FM.

    Pamela,

I take one-to-two 325mg Percosets a day. One in the morning to help me get going, and one later in the day if needed. Most days I only take one.

After reading all your posts, I have noticed that there wasn't any mention of duragesic. I was on oxycontin, didn't do enough for me, with the breakthrough of oxycodone (didn't work). I feel like even the duragesic isn't enough half the time. I am on 50 mc and seems to last about two days, definitely not three. I want to know if anybody has ever just woke up one day pain free and remained that way, any miracle stories. I am really just fried with this thing, my vision is awful, can't think (it isn't the drugs, it is the fog), and doing anything can land me in bed for a day, physical therapy exhausts me. I am starting to wonder if it is all in my head like most people think. It is just exhausting!
