    I have heard mention from some that you are on perscriptions where you take a low-medium dose of pain killers everday just like other scripts.

    I have been fortunate in the past to be able to take my pain meds as needed. The past four months w/ my FMS especially, have been my worst flare/s ever.

    I am going to ask my ffc doc on 11/3 when I go for my 2nd visit, but was curious to hear from ya'll about what you take, how often, what dose, etc.?

    I would really appreciate any info. It is getting to the point I can't make it through the day and I have to work. I am in school part-time but I'm thinking I'm going to have to postpone that indefinitely. Breaks my heart!

    Any advice would be great!

    I take 2 tramadol 50mgs every six hours ... except for the last dose at bedtime I only take 1 tramadol. I also take 800mgs ibuprofen same time as tramadol... and 600mgs at last dose of day.

    I take 5mg flexeril only when I have a particular spasm flare (like lower back) that can't be treated with the usual heat, stretching, soaking tips. If I have to take flexeril, I wont start until @ 3pm w/ about a 1/4 of pill and add a little more every two to three hours until bedtime. ... Never more then 7.5mgs per day as it really knocks me out.

    What helped my pain level to decrease in a big way was fixing my sleep disorder ... mostly by avoiding REM suppressing rx'es/supplements and taking lunesta.

    Don't feel like you are giving up by taking pain meds daily. You are breaking the pain cycle and possibly avoiding nerve damage by using them. And then there is the added bonus of "quality of life".

    Take care,

    I take 23 different meds daily for a host of problems that I have (they are listed in my bio), but only a few are for the fibro.

    What I take daily for fibro are:

    * Cymbalta
    * Neurotin
    * Zanaflex - before bedtime

    I also take an arthritis med called Ketoprefen, but I don't think it helps my fibro any, because I can't tell that it helps my arthritis either!!

    And ... I take Placquenil for my systemic lupus, but I don't think it helps the fibro either.

    I also use a heating pad a lot every day -- and it does help!!!

    The only pain med that I have is Lortab 7.5, which was prescribed for all of my back problems. I only take it "as needed" for my back, and when I do, I can't tell that it helps my fibro pain any at all.

    Well, I don't know what you are taking now on an as needed basis, but I personally got to the same point a few months ago. I recently started on around the clock morphine sulfate (MS Contin). I take:

    60 mg of morphine sulfate every 8 hours
    2mg Zanaflex every 6 hours
    600 mg Neurontin 3 times a day
    100 mg Nortriptaline at bedtime

    I have tried the Ultram, but it is just not enough for me. Also, I do have pretty severe pain from my fibro, so may need more meds than some.

    Good luck!

    Hi there .. when I last saw the specialist he said try to keep ahead of the pain .. it gets to be a vicious cycle if you don't. Recently I was switched to a 12 hour one 10 mgs each 20 in 24 hours .. where as I used to take a few Oxy-Ir 5 mg later in the day/evening when the pain got out of hand .. it was a little tricky switching but I like not popping so many pills and trying to judge the situation any more .. I think it is a 'contin" type .. I have flexeril ? for muscle jerking or spasams .. zopiclone for sleep but I had to up it to 2 x7.5 pills ..

    Your body will let you know after a while what suits you best .. I hope you have a good and understanding doctor that won't be difficult when it comes to pain meds ..
    Good Luck

    I take 1 Lortab 10/500 mg. with my noon meds (I don't get up until after 11:30 AM).

    I take:
    Prozac 20 mg.
    Xanax .5 mg.

    These are for FMS. I also take Detrol, Cytomel and Pepcid AC (which I may quit) with the above meds.

    If I am in a lot of pain, I'll take another Lortab around 6 PM, but I have found if I take one before bedtime that I can't sleep.

    The 100 mg. of Diclofenac that I take after dinner, usually helps some with the FMS until I get up in the morning again.

    I'm on 9 pills a day right now.

    I take tramadol (generic ultram). I can take 100 mg. up to 6 times daily. I don't usually take it that many times. Sometimes I add 2 tylenol to boost it.

    For severe pain I take Lorcet (same thing as vicodin)

    I take cymbalta 30 mg. daily to help with pain.

    I have robaxin or skelaxin to take as needed to relax my muscles. I don't have to take this all the time.

    Right now I am not taking any muscle relaxers. I have been having esophogeal spasms and they have me on valium 2 mg. twice a day.

    Thats all the pain meds, but I have other meds for other conditions. I'll not list those since you are inquiring about pain meds.

    One tablet every 4-6 hours as needed for pain.
    After much research..and living with this illness for 3 years. I find I really do best to take one ( vicodin) every 4 hours , every day. There are the occasional days where I do not have pain all day...and then I do not take any. But as soon as I feel pain coming on...I do.
    I agree with the whole notion that you have to stay ahead of the pain. The drug just cannot overcome pain that already exists..but it can help keep your pain levels manageable if you take it preventatively .

    I tke Vicodin I get 40 per month and it's getting to the point where that is not enough. I don't take bigger dose's, I just have more pain like all the time. So i know what your going through. Now getting the doctor to give me more, is like pulling teeth. They really hate the paperwork involved in perscribing narcotics. So I'm going to try online. If anyone has suggestions, I'd appreciate them. Anyway, your not alone. everybody seem to take whatever works for them. I know muscle relaxants do nothing for me, other people love them? Good luck to you. to all of us.

    I really appreiciate all of the good info and advice.

    It is hard for me to give in to taking regular pain meds for this DD. I know it makes logical sense, but there is such a stigma related to pain medication.

    Currently I have Lortab 7.5 to take as needed. Anyway, I'm going to print this out and take it with me to my next appointment.

    Thanks guys!

    Reading these email I don't feel so alone taking vicodin. It has been hard for me to accept that I need this type of med. but if it helps hey, I guess one should take it. I am so sick of living in pain for so many yrs. Jen you need to do what you have to and make your quality of life so you can go on without so much pain. Since I have been on vicodin for a month 2 to 4 a day my life is better. I can do the things I love without suffering. I wish I had a one on one support group where I live to help me deal with the quilt of taking vicodin. How stupid is that?
    Hugs to all
