The past few days I've noticed some statements a few people have made about pain. First there were the owners of the horse Barbaro who kindly wanted to save the life of their race horse if he wouldn't live in pain. The outpouring of compassion for this horse during & after his surgery has been amazing. I wonder how many of these people are equally compassionate for the pain & suffering of other human beings? Then today the NYTimes has an article on tennis player Jenifer Capriati, who has shoulder pain & can't play. The article quotes her as saying, "I wake up, everyday, and my life has totally changed." "Sometimes you want people to listen so you're not feeling along in this despair." Her comments sound so familiar, like they were said by a FM/CFS sufferer. It's a reminder that you your whole life can change in an instant.
