I'm a little concerned. Sunday I experienced a new kind of pain. It started at the spine just below the shoulder blades and wrapped around the trunk of my body. It felt like a muscle spasm that squeezed me very tightly. Even the spaces between my ribs were excruciating. I had to go to urgent care and get pain meds as my regular medications did not even touch the pain.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so what did your doctor say? I'm concered because this sounds very similiar to an MS symptom.

    Thank you...Eliza

I also experienced this exact pain a short period of time ago. I was just walking into my kitchen when it happened. At first, I tried to keep going, but then a just collapsed into a little ball on the floor. My husband was close and I told him that if it didn't subside, he would need to call an ambulance. Although, I have chronic back pain (severe), this was the ultimate. It was even hard to breath. I saw my physician the next day and told him what happened. He said that ALL of my tendons and ligaments in my back spasmed at the same time, pulling my ribs into malallignment and squeezing so hard that it made it difficult to breath. This excutiating pain did subside on its own and my doc is one of my fibro specialists. My back pain is so severe, normally, that it has taken over my life for 4 1/2 years. How I wish someone could help me..........Paula

I believe you're experiencing "costochrondritis". Mine makes me feel like I'm having a heart attack. This is one of the symptoms of FM as well.

Do an internet search on it and you'll learn more about it. You might also do a search here on this board.

It's not a pleasant feeling and I think when we initially have our first experience, we end up in an emergency room. Then, they look at your like you're a nut case since they can't find anything wrong.

One doctor suggested a couple of exercises...

    1) Stand against a wall pressing your back against it and slowly raising your arms over your head. Repeat several times.

    2) Sit in a chair bending arms and pulling them back behind you stretching the chest muscles. I added extending arms over my head with this exercise as well.

These do've got nerves that are being pinched.

Do hope you'll give this info a "look see" and try the exercises.
