    Here's a warning I received today.

"I dialed 'O' to check this out, and
the operator confirmed that this was correct, so please pass it on.. (l also
checked out . This is true, and also applies to cell phones!)

I received a telephone call last evening from an individual
identifying himself as an AT&T Service
Technician (could also be Telus) who was conducting a test on the
    telephone lines. He stated that
to complete the test I should touch nine (9), zero (0), the pound
sign (#), and then hang up.

Luckily, I was suspicious and refused.

    Upon contacting the telephone company,
I was informed that by pushing 90#, you give the requesting individual full
access to your telephone line, which enables them to place long distance calls
billed to your home phone number.

I was further informed that this scam has been originating from many
    local jails/prisons.

DO NOT Press 90# for ANYONE..."

    Thanks, Rock,

We have a column in our newspaper which keeps us updated on the latest scams. These scams go around like the flu and then, make the rounds again. Never take anyone's word for it when they tell you who they are. Companies do not call people to ask them to do things nor to ask for information. Same with e-mail requests. I keep getting ones supposedly from our utility co. It is asking me to update my acct. info. If I were to click on the provided link, it would take me to a phony website made to look just like the utility's website. It would request that I give them all kinds of personal info so they could steal my identity.

It is ridiculous that criminals have unsupervised access to computers.

    Thanks, again, Rock.

    Love, Mikie
