    Hello,

I was wondering if there are any others that seem to have more pain after PT?
I have been going for the Myofasical Pain in my neck, but it seems to make me feel worse. I have degenerative disc disease, too....the stretching seems to make me worse... I hurt all over today...body, neck, lower back, every where....I even slept 11 hours last night, I feel feverish too...elbow joints hurt.....he had me lifting light weights..I think I may have CF along with the FM....help!

I am suppose to go again...tomorrow!
    Thanks for reading,
    Cindy

Sometimes it can cause more pain. It depends on so many things. It sounds to me as if you should back off a bit. In my opinion, you should have some days off in between. Can you alter your schedule and see if that helps?

Interestingly, I just went to a new rheumatologist and asked about physical therapy. She does not recommend it unless a therapist that is keenly specialized in fibro does the therapy. Many of her patients have done worse because the therapists push too hard.

I'm certain some do benefit from it....maybe in your case it was not done correctly for you.

I sure can relate to the pain that goes along with land physical therapy.

When my PCP put me in that particular therapy orginally, each time I thought I was going to have to crawl to the car to go home. Then I would hurt all night and the next day.

Finally I said NO MORE. The pain specialist then decided to put me in Pool Therapy Lite Stretching twice a week. This was much better. I am still in it after three years. But since I do have CFS along with the Fibro, if I am really fatigued or aching I was instructed not to do any therapy per the doctor.

He said that when the CFS is acting up and you go and do even the most simple exercise, it can cause the CFS to worsen.I have even noticed when my fatigue is in gear, even sitting in the whirlpool makes me extremely tired and achey.

You might want to back off a bit and get with your physician and reasset your symptoms. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

For some people phys. therapy makes them really sick.
If it is making you sick tell the doctor or therapist. Maybe just gentle massage to relax your muscles would be better.
Personally, I flare so easily, I probably could not handle PT.
Make sure and drink a lot of water afterwards. If they work w/ your muscles and release lactic acid/toxins in your system you could feel flu-ish.

Thank you for your kind replies.....After tomorrow I will have 2 days left of the PT, then they re-evaluate. If I feel the way I do in the morning I will let the therapist know....it does feel like a flare of the FM....I will let PM doctor know also...

    Thanks again you guys!

Cindy, I am so glad that you posted this. I have just started Phys Therapy and I feel awful. First of all, the actual treatment makes me want to cry. My Therapist specializes in FMS,so he knows what he is doing. He is manipulating my upper back and shoulder muscles and he told me that he is going easy on me. Yeah right!!!

He says that my muscles are all knotted up and in spasms. It hurt so much I felt like throwing up. I had my first session on Monday and today I feel fluish and very, very tired.

Your post reminded me that my doctor told me to be sure and let the Therapist know if it is too painful because sometimes they will push too hard. I have CFIDS so maybe this is not going to work for me. I'll give it another couple of tries, but if I flare too badly, I don't think I'll be able to continue.

    Good luck to you.

I had been waffling about trying P.T.; did it years ago but illness hadn't progressed this far.

I've made an appt for Friday, and now I'm really thinking it may not be the best thing for me.

Can you tell me which methods in particular you think were the worst (other than pushing too hard)?

    Thanks & LIGHT************carole
