Hopefully someone can help me. I am 24 years old and found out i had FMS a few years ago. I have actually had it since i was 15, but noone could tell me what is was. I have been on a majority of inflammatory's and muscle relaxers, but they have all made me feel grogy the next morning. I have a five year old son (single mom) and a job i work 8-4:30 Monday through Friday. I can not afford to feel like this in the morning. I have tryed to cut the pills in half or get a lower dosage but nothing seems to work. I hate being in pain all the time, then i take pills to help me what all they do is make me feel more confused and gorgy. Help is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Kristy

I guess I can Kind of relate to how you feel, regarding the med's that is...

But I wouldn't begin to know what to suggest...

My own personal problem (about five years ago) was that it seemed I was trading in one problem...(the medical condition) for another (the effects of all the pills)...

In the end I gave up on the pills because I just couldn't stand the way they made me feel.

But like I said...that's just me. Everybody's tolerance to medications are different...I have seen some on this board who use only homeopathic treatments, perhaps for the same reasons you and I face???...

But there are others who have switched around their meds until they have found a solution that works for them...

    Trial and error!

If I were you, I would discuss what you are feeling with your doctor...tell him what your concerns are...maybe you can find a better balance?...

    Much luck to you!!!

    Welcome to our board.

I don't know when you are taking your muscle relaxant, but it typically makes one feel drowsy so it's best taken at night. Anti-inflammatories have very limited effectiveness in our illnesses.

It sounds as though you need to find a doc more knowledgeable in treating our illnesses. A good doc can make all the difference. Good luck.

Hi. I'm 23 and have been diagnosed with FM for 18 months though I too think I've had it for much longer. I'm currently on Flurbriprophen, which I only take when I really have too, they manage to dull the pain.I'VE been on alot more though, most of which I had to give up because they didn't work, made me feel like a Zombie or caused pain in my abdomen.I have seen a pain specialist, who perscribed the Flurbriprophen and has also suggested acupuncture, which hopefully I'm going to try this summer. to some this might sound flaky but hey he does it himself and he's a top specialist.Massage also seems to help me. Indian does dull my headaches if only for a few hours. If you haven't seen a pain specialist it might be worth it, I know we all probably feel like we've seen every type of doctor going and I didn't want to drag myself to yet another, especially if he thought me Neurotic( the brain Doctor), impossible to treat unless I got more symtoms( the one in london) or impossible to treat because I had FM ( most of the others), most of these guys were nice but god did they make me frustrated.Sorry to rant! anyway my mom who'd seen the pain doctor for a problem of her own insisted, so I went and finally found someone who discussed loads of options with me and didn't treat me as if I was nine! If you're under a general practioner its worth mentioning that pain treatment is avery specialized area or so I've been told and one of these docs may well have more ideas on how to help dull or control the pain.

    sorry for the lecture VIX
