Please, Post Non-Medical Topics On The CCF

We have a lot of new members here and I am also seeing a lot of posts about personal family problems here. I know that personal problems stress us out cause us to flare, and affect our illnesses, but these kinds of posts belong on the Chit Chat Forum.

Many who come here have very limited time to read and respond and do not wish to read posts about problems with spouses, children, friends, and other family members. We are asking more and more of our medical professionals and often, the requests roll over to Page 2, or even Page 3 before they can be read and responded to.

I'm not saying we should not come here where others understand and where we can get support for our personal problems, but this just isn't the place for it.

Many may not have wanted to post on the CCF because it is also used for jokes, recipes, etc., but it is a place where we can discuss anything. You can find the CCF by clicking on Message Boards in the strip above and it will list all our boards. Just click on the one you want.

I've struggled with this for a long time because I do not want to move posts from people already in a crisis and stressed out, but this forum is becomming overloaded and something has to give. I will be moving these types of posts in the future.

Please use this area for info and questions related to our illnesses, advocacy info, new treatments, meds, and products which make our lives better, etc.

Please use the CCF for personal problems even though they may be affecting your health. If you need to ask for help for a flare caused by personal problems, please do not use this forum for details of the personal problems. Just ask for help with the flare.

Also, please remember to keep the titles of original posts short, limited to one line. Topics which use two lines mean that someone else's post gets bumped prematurely to Page 2.

I appreciate your cooperation so that we can continue to keep this area primarily for illness-related topics. Thank you.

My fear is that instead of asking their own docs questions, our members will depend on you and our other wonderful medical professionals. This is an unfair burden to put on y'all. You have all been more than generous in answering questions, but you are not here to diagnose based on info our members post from their lab reports. These need to be addressed to their own docs. Lab numbers, as you know, are only one small slice of the picture.

I know that it gets tedious answering the same questions over and over again, especially when your time is limited. I don't believe our newer members realize they can use the search feature to see whether their question has been previously addressed.

I just don't want y'all to get burned out as it's easy enough to get burned out in medicine as it is. In addition, you are sick as well and still trying to work. I want you to know how much we appreciate all that y'all do for us.

Hopefully, this will help our members to realize that they need to be getting most of their info from their own docs. If they cannot do this, it's time to shop for a new doc. Doing this as much as possible will help take the burden off of y'all and keep your time for questions which cannot otherwise be answered. I think a lot of our members would benefit greatly from learning to do their own research here in our library and on the net. I always learn something new when I research a topic.

This is a tricky one. We don't encourage posting e-mail addresses here as lurkers often visit these sites looking for e-mail addresses and send spam, porno, or viruses through the mail. Some post their addresses in their profiles. If you do this, it is probably better to use one of the freebie e-mail sites for only this use. Be very careful not to open mail from anyone you do not know.

Not everyone on the net is who he or she claims to be.

Be sure your system has a good firewall and antivirus protection and keep it up to date.

No, unfortunately, we do not have that capability. For personal messaging, we use the Chit Chat Forum, but it's not private.

I am not familiar with the capabilities and limitations of web TV. Perhaps one of our other members will know.

Some of our members only get here on the weekends as they are still working. I want to be sure everyone has a chance to read this.

Bumping one more time. Wow! This board is busy, especially for a weekend. It must be raining over a very large area.

I should have mentioned where we keep it hidden :)

Go to Message Boards on the strip at the top of this page. Click on it and it will bring lists of all our other boards. There are some which are illness specific and some community boards, like the CCF, the Worship Forum, and the Writers Forum.

The CCF is so nice because it's a friendly place where people go to get away from our illnesses, tell some jokes, ask for support for personal problems, talk about pets, post recipes, etc. Kick off your shoes, grab a cup o' coffee, put your feet up and enjoy the CCF.

I have been expressing my frustration at all of the info that one has to sift through that could be elsewhere or addressed a different way.

Mikie, you are correct when you say something has to give.

Though, I still wish the search engine were used more often for the benefit of newer members.

I think members would benefit more from using the search enging first when asking a question like is "X a particularly ache normal for fibromalgia?" Many times these posts are skipped over because some have seen them dozens of times. It has the unfortunate affect of leading one to believe that people may not care when, in fact, it is just a question that has been asked dozens of times over a couple of years.

I would just like to encourage all to use the search engine regarding meds, side effects, symptoms and their effects, etc,. and then posting. It all of us to help each other more. Just a thought.

I shall also try abide by the specified guidelines since I have asked personal-type questions related to family dynamics and such. I will remember to put anything like that on the CCF.

    Thanks for the guidelines.

Yes, using the search feature would really help anyone with questions, but I think all this may be a little overwhelming for new folks. A lot of times, I mention it to them and I hope our other members will too as it can really help.

Lynda, it's really good to see you posting. Please feel free to post about the search feature from time to time so our new members will see it.

A friend suggested provigil for this terrible fatigue I have almost constantly; anyone ever tried it? Also, fibro & IBS. I'm on Zoloft & xanax for anxiety attacks. Any help will be much appreciated. My 1st time on a message board.
