I go back to pain specialist Tuesday and I'm scared of what they will suggest next. Let's see:
    1st drug: Oxycotin 20mg = too strong
Oxycotin 10mg = too slow and interferred w/sleep
Kadian (morphine) 60mg = too strong
self dosing = 1/2 Kadian capsule sprinkled in jelly
(this helps, but still need darvocet and Klonopin).

Is this normal to play the hit & miss game with these drugs?
Have many of you had to try different pain meds till one actually worked?
I remember Mikie suggested a short acting Morphine, but don't remember the name of the drug.

Any suggestions based on your experiences would be very much appreciated!!

Hi Granmama~~Unfortunately, it is usually a period of trial and error to find the right combinations that work for you, and then even those have to be re-evaluated from time to time.

It took quite a few months, but I finally found a combination of 10mgs oxycontin 3x's a day, percocet for breakthrough pain, soma for a muscle relaxer, and .5mgs of klonopin at night for restless legs and sleep.

That worked okay for about 17 months, then I had to have my meds re-evaluated because the 10mg oxy was no longer effective nor the .5mg klonopin.

We upped the oxy to 20mgs 3x's a day, upped the klonopin to 1mg at night, soma twice a day, and did away with the celebrex and added bextra. Now I am doing much better.

Just hang in there and keep experimenting. You will eventually find something that works for you. Hope you find relief soon. Best Wishes, Carol...

in that I haven't gotten to the point many of you seem to be at. I am taking quite a few vitamins, etc., and I also take several rx.....soma and lortab during the day, zanaflex & elavil at night for sleep. I also take calcium/magnesium/zinc at night, as well as vitamins C, E, Bcomplex and fish oil during the day.

My dr. has recently changed my treatment plan somewhat- I am taking Ultram for pain as well as Ambien and Klonopin at night for sleep. I also take a numerous combination of supplements including MSM, ZMA, Calcium, Vitamin C & E, Flaxseed, CO Q-10, Malic Acid, and a good Multivitamin. Next week my dr. is starting me on B-12 injections.
Not to mention I am also taking Prevacid for GERD, and Dilatin for seizure disorder. I was never one to take meds. but look at me now! I wish i could stop taking all of it and feel good as i once did a long time ago!
    Good luck to you!

Howdy- I take Neurontin and Zanaflex routinely, and have Darvocet for as needed use. It does take some time to find the right combination for you.
