I'm not going into every detail, but for the past year I have not been doing well with recurrent bouts of "infections."

Work-up revealed I have "chronic sinusitis" by CAT scan. I had NOT been aware of pressure or pain in the sinuses, but aware sometimes of postnasal drip down my throat and chest tightness and a worsening of my fibro symptoms.

Many of FMS/CSFers have allergies, not going to list them all, but mine include mold, dust, etc. I did a search on chronic sinusitis and found "fungal sinusitis." Those who have allergies to mold REACT to fungi naturally occuring in the environment and can develop sinusitis.

OK, fibro guru (sp?) Dr. Devin Starlanyl, put out a list of the symptoms we have - in order of occurence. Drum roll please:

    Number ONE: Postnasal drip.

Postnasal drip is a symptom of sinusitis.

REMEMBER, I did NOT know I had chronic sinusitis until the CAT scan results.

Please folks, contribute to this post in any way:
Have you been diagnosed with sinusitis.
    Have you had treatments, antifungals????
Do you suspect you have sinusitis?
    Do you have postnasal drip?
Do you clear your throat often?
Do you have/or suspect you have allergies to mold?
    Do you have sinus tenderness?
    Do you have headaches?
Do you know that you DO NOT HAVE problems with any of the above?

Looking for ALL types of responses.

    Thank you, fondly, June

I know I have sinusitus, was diagnosed w/ nasal polys yrs. ago.
I have allergies and post nasal drip ( which get's worse w/dairy or wheat)food allergies contribute I'm sure.

I alternate w/ olive leaf or oregano oil and probiotics.

I think yeast is something most of us w/ CFS /FM have wether we know it or not.

Yeast loves dark, moist places like our sinus cavaties.

    Take care,
    Claudia

No, I don't have problems with sinuses. But I've always done alot of yeast killing supplements from the beginning.

So, "no" to everything except, I do get some post nasal drip. Dairy will cause this & the fact that I'm currently doing a detox program with my doctor. Yes, to clearing the throat. Everything else is a "no".

    Hope you feel better soon.

to every question. I felt so much better on Diflucan but it caused me liver problems and I had to stop. Symptoms resumed after stopping the Diflucan.

Before coming down with CFS/FM I had chronic sinus infections that lasted all winter long and sometimes into the summer. I suspect that the extended use of ABX for these infections contributed to these DD's - lower resistance to bacerial infections and growth of yeast/fungus in the sinuses.

YES! I too had it discovered with a cat scan. Previous to becoming ill with CFS I would get constant sinus infections, take antibiotics and they'd clear for a few weeks and come back.
Have done some research, and some docs believe chronic sinusits may be a direct underlying link to CFS.

Would be interested in learning if anyone knows how to effectively treat this.

Yes to all. I am much better now that I am on the candida diet. I am taking diflucan for 10 days and also take threelac, oxygen elements plus and digestive enzymes.
My problems appear to be Candida related
    Good Luck!

There's a number of areas in my nose & sinus cavities that are collapsed, and causes extra problems. Fortunately, sinusitis is NOT one of them.

I have pressure and fluid in sinuses that cause me great pain almost daily...

but catscans/xrays have never revealed infections, liquid etc nor obstructions... even tho theyhave even been done WHILE I'm having a headache...

but I sure can feel it move from side to side, depending on which side is down, when I'm sleeping! Not to mention eye, nose, teeth pressure... antihistamines helps most of the time at least a little.

'THEY' (MDs) tell me there is nothing to culture... abx don't help obviously... would love to try an antifungal nasal spray but can't get anyone to RX it for me...

I have tried herbal antifungal nasal sprays like grapefruit seed extract, collooidal silver, MSM, plus others ad infinitum...

but no success. It will go away randomly without any coincidence with ANYthing environmentally or food-wise; allergy diets don't help... candida diets plus diflucan doesn't either...

even tho I cannot eat cheese/yeast etc without my endo kicking up, so I rarely eat it anyway.

I have tried many many - did I say MANY? - things already suggested on this board from neti pots -- special attachment to electric toothbrush, plus many many many many many other things...

Last thing to try I think is that 'Sinusbuster' capsaican spray... I just ordered it.

Sinusitis is one of the most common things that plagues us, but many others too who don't have CF/FM -

the last specialist I saw said he sees many otherwise normal people that have no apparent infection/obstruction of any kind, he agrees nothing works for most of us.

He feels it is due to pollution from city coming our way (in my case, Atlanta's pollution) - we are 60 miles east of it. Told me to move to an island, LOL! --I wish!

That Mayo Clinic study still has not resulted in RX for sinusitis caused by fungi/mold to my knowledge, altho I have a link for a compounding pharmacy that would make them up - (again, wish I could get an RX for one...)

--altho at least the study educated people that so much fatigue can be due to these chronic problems.

soooo if this helps any? no answers here tho...

    all the best
    Victoria

And yes, Bet64, I do have allergies, food and environmental, I have been giving myself allergy shots but still have developed this sinusitis which is a new symptom to me.....

Bet64, I also am becoming aware, there may be a mold exposure problem in my house. I had developed allergies 15 years before moving to this house. Thought I was leaving my problems behind in the old house.

I stay away from wheat, yeast, soy, corn products.....and recently dairy....am try to redevelop my eating habits to make eating more enjoyable.

    Fondly, June

I had major sinus surgery in July of 2005 that was excruciatingly painful. Once I came out the other side I could finally breath again!!! Haven't had pneumonia, bronchitis, etc since, which were illnesses that were fairly constant with me.

    - yes
Do you have/or suspect you have allergies to mold?
    - yes. I had allergy testing 3 years ago and had allergies to trees, rag and pig weeds (never heard of a pig weed????), and dust and mold. I did allergy shots for a year, and symptoms disappeared for the most part but came back with a veangence this year!

I have not been diagnosed with sinusitis, but have had a COLD since December.

I have not had any treatments, other than taking chlorpheniramine.

I do suspect I have it, because a cold would not linger this long, would it?

I do clear my throat a lot & have done this for years, with no other symtom.

I do suspect I have allergies to mold. We do have mold in our bathroom, which I can not seem to get rid of.

Yes, I have had recently some sinus tenderness in my face.

Yes, I do have occasional headache, & sometimes it will just be on one side.

Growing up, I had chronic infections. I would have strep throat 1 to 3 times a year, EVERY YEAR.

As I grew older, I would have constant yeast infections.

I no longer have my tonsils so the strep infections have gone away, although I still can get really bad sore throats at times.

I have had a total hysterectomy, (at age 25) This was due to so much infection & not healing after my son was born, 2 months earlier. So not as much infection there either.

He had a CT that show extensive "remodeling" of his left sinus area. The surgeon said that he had only seen this in people who had been doing something with "dirt/soil. That the mold/fungus was in the soil and these patients were allergic to the mold. When they got the dirt on their hands, they rubbed their noses and the fugus found a new home (in the sinus).

He had surgery to remove the mold and took allergy shots. Was great for a long time. Now 4 years later he is having some of the same sxs and we are going to have a CT done in May when he gets home from school.

I have to say yes to all. I am allergic to mold, trees, animals, etc. I have 3 cats that I wouldn't give away for anythin so I take OTC for sinuses. I've been taking mucinex D. It does help. I also do not have the sinus cavities above your eyes so when sinuses try to go up there there is nothing there to let them. Thanks for letting me answer your poll.
