This has got to have been the worst week of my entire fibro history. I have been diagnosed with this awful and most confusing disease for almost 2 years now( have suffered probably 6 years before being diagnosed) I have been on many meds. and none seem to work for me.And I don't like the side effects. I feel like a pill popping machine! And it tears up my stomach. Not to mention I have GERD, and I am taking Prevacid for that. I also have a seizure disorder and take Dilantin. Now my dr. has me on so many vitamins- I take Glucosamine/Chondrotin, Flaxseed, Calcium, MSM,DHEA, Malic/Magnisium,B-Complex,Vitamin C. I am taking past recommended dosage so I pop 8 different kinds of vitamins totaling 22 vitamin pills a day! Is this what you all do? Then I add my pain meds-Bextra,Zanaflex, Ultram & Ambien. I am so confused I just don't know what to take and what not to take any more. I am afraid to stop taking any of it for fear i will feel worse. My husband keeps suggesting I stop taking it all and see what happens. Any suggestions???? Yesterday I literally could not get out of bed to go to work. I spent all day in bed and today my husband is painting his truck and will be gone all day. Monday its back to a job I am very unhappy with(not to mention I am in too much pain to make it through the 6 hours a day I work)But we need the extra money my job brings in.Then when I get home I can't do anything- fun or otherwise. We moved to Florida 10 years ago, to Winter Park and moved again to Plant City 2 years ago and have not made a single real friend to speak of. My mom and dad are here about an hour from us and my children are each about an hour each in different directions but besides that all family and friends are back in Michigan- it can be very lonely. And as some of you have mentioned support of friends and family is very important. It is all so depressing!Any of you know of any support groups here in the Tampa area? Do they help? Any other suggestions to help me through this is greatly appreciated. Sorry for my rambling- but thanks for letting me vent!

sorry for your private hell with meds and misery. I'm not certain why your doc would have you devouring every vitamin in sight. I've never heard of any vitamin regimen helping FMS, but I'm not a doc. I also have reflux, take Ultram for pain, etc. You have to be straightforward with your doc about your experiences and if he is unhelpful, ditch him and find another. I believe rheumatologists are usually the best qualified to treat FMS, tho you would want to make sure they truly believe that FMS is a disease and not psychological. You will do better, trust me. God bless, Al

I do feel for you and I know how bad somedays can be.
I think you may want to buy one of those pill books, one for the perscription meds and another for the vitamins. Make sure that none of them should not be taken with anything else you are taking. You can also consult with your pharmacist. They know a lot more about any drug than our doctors do. I truly believe you should be able to discard some of the meds all together.
I read that you used to live in Winter Park. I used to live in Fern Park/Castleberrry. Right down the street from there. I liked FLA. but it was just too darn hot and a faster life than I was used to. I have lived in Michigan my whole life, with the exception of the year we spent in Florida, and was happy to return here as well. What part of MI were you in? I am in Ann Arbor. It's is where I was born and raised. I am hoping my 11 yr. old will attend U of M. That is what she is hoping for as well.
Well I had to write seeings how we were from the same area at some point.
Another option would be to get a second opinion about your FMS. Is your doc an FMS specialist? If not, try to find one in your area, and I believe you can search for one at this site.
Good luck and hope to hear back from you!!

Hi, I feel so much for you! I get so concerned about all the different meds I am taking, and trying the vitamins and flax seed and "healthy" eating.. I too struggle with the lonliness, I have family about 1 hour away, but they do not choose to be a part of our family. I have a son who is 7 years old who has been diagnosed with Aspergers (form of Autism) and we have no support from our family or "friends". I will pray for you as I know what you are feeling exactly. My moods and the fibromyalgia have gotten so bad lately... God bless....Barb

...nobody should be taking DHEA unless they have had a baseline DHEA level test done to make sure they need it. Has your doctor done that? If your adrenals are in bad shape, as ours often are, the DHEA could make that problem worse, as in more jitters, insomnia, shakiness, irritability, etc.
I also take about 25 supplement pills per day. I don't take any that don't help me in some way. I wish it were not true, but some of us have such messed up digestive tracts that we need about 3 times the normal amount of a given nutrient in order to absorb the normal needed amount (see Dr. Devin Starlanyl's book on FMS). I spend much more on supps. than I do on prescriptions.
You will best find what works for you by informed trial and error, since we are all different.
