Well, Ok, this isn't a porch, but it's a picture I took in the Smoky Mountains in June of 2016.

    Good Wednesday morning!

Start spreadin' the news...I'm leaving today...

Well, ok, I'm leaving tomorrow, but I must say I'm just a bit excited.

Granni - I guess the above answers you...I just got so busy at work yesterday I never got around to posting. And I understand about the expense. It does cost a lot to go there to sing. Doesn't matter who you are...you have to pay for the privilege of performing in Carnegie.

Julie - good to see you around again. Sounds like you've been crazy-busy as well. When I get back from New York, I'm going to have to spend a couple of evenings cleaning up the bunker before I can get to work quilting again.

Mikie - You must be sleeping in this morning...or maybe you're posting at the same time I am. I hope you slept better than I did...I woke up at 4 and couldn't shut my brain off....

Rock - the cherry pitter I used was a little hand-held one. I've got to get a better one for next year, because 5 hours of using that spring loaded thing tried to make my tendinitis flare up in my arm again. I've attached a picture of one.

Barry - sorry you aren't feeling well. I hope you are better soon.

I have a fair amount that I need to accomplish, so I'm going to bail and try to get done before the end of the day.

    Hugz to all,

    Good Wednesday Morning, Kids

Had to take my car for an oil change first thing. I could barely get into the parking area for my wonderful independent mechanic. He's AAA Certified, honest and does good work. Yesterday, I made phone calls and arrangements for appointments of all kinds. My A/C guy will be out on Mon. to check the unit. I've been so sick and depressed that I haven't been able to take care of these things. I finally decided to just do it. I've fallen behind on everything. I know y'all understand how this happens.

I walked with my friend, Barb, in the pool early yesterday and it was truly uplifting even though I didn't do a heavy aerobic workout. My friend has a bad knee and a bad ankle and can only walk. I hope Claudia will join us tomorrow. The other Barb called me from Boston. She sounds soooo good and seems to be happy. This is the friend I love. I told her we will have to go to the Outback for steaks and gin 'n tonic drinks when she comes down. That excited her. Two grandkids are getting married this year and she just had her third great grandchild. She was so unhappy for so long and caused rifts with her friends. I'm glad she finally saw the light and I hope it always continues.

Don't know whether I mentioned that I got the results of the endoscopy--hiatal hernia, no infection and no cancer. Good news and the hernia splains why I have acid reflux. Photo in newspaper today showing the release of a large turtle from rehab. It was found near death on its back on the beach from Red Tide poisoning. I wonder about the wisdom of releasing it now that the Red Tide is so bad. I am choking from it and my allergies. I'm having ocular migraines and every little noise is making me jump out of my skin. In other words, same ole same ole.

Duckie, I was posting while you were opening up the new Porch. Thanks for doing it. I've just pasted my post here. NYC is expensive no matter what one does there. It's worth it though. Sorry you didn't sleep well. This pic reminds me of the Blue Ridge Mountains in NC. Totally different from the Rocky Mountains in CO. Evidently, eons ago, NYC sat at the base of very tall mountains. Hard to imagine. I wonder whether God gets bored with the Earth as it is and wants to change things up, kinda like when we redecorate.

Barry, seems I vaguely remember about Monty but it's Sylvie I remember most. I'm glad they are good friendly cats. I'm sorry you feel lousy and hope you can come back soon. By the time I rattle off CFIDS/FMS/Sjogren's Syndrome, the docs either know I'm sick or think I'm a hypochondriac. My PCP knows what I have and the specialists don't care if it isn't part of their specialty.

Granni, is it's too bad you can't get to the water aerobics. Working out in a pool first thing is great. Is your pool outside? Seven-thirty seems awfully early. I am going at 8:30 now but will go later when it's not as warm out. My pool pal and I were just saying that the heat doesn't seem to be bothering us as much this year. I think it's because the air has been drier than in years past. In another month, it will be stifling. I have some two-piece suits and some one-piece ones but could use another top. My favorite one is severely faded. I just need to watch for a good sale at Bealls and some coupons. Swim suits are expensive.

Julie, I'm glad you and Den are getting so much done. Just saw on TV that the price of lumber is climbing radically due to tariffs. Might be worth it to buy ahead for anything needed. I take it that VBS stands for Vacation Bible School. Older ladies in our hood used to host it when the kids were small. One elderly lady got confused and served the kids vinegar, thinking it was apple juice. Poor kids. They didn't want to embarrass her but they couldn't get it down. Considering her condition, I doubt she noticed. So the kids will be there for the holiday? Will y'all go to the 4th of July parade? It doesn't get more American than the Fourth of July parade in small towns. Will Den hoist the big flag for the festivities? I hope it's fun for everyone.

I am starving and don't know what I want to eat. I have my beloved Brussel sprouts but it's too early for them. Maybe some toast and decaf. Hope all y'all are having a wonderful week.

    Love, Mikie

    Dear Ones,

Finished breakfast and started a wash but need to wait for DSIL to come help DH cut some branches off trees, etc. When he gets done ethen I may have to go help pick up some stuff for the trash and then run off to the store.

MIKIE - I see you moved your post over from the last volume, I believe after Duckie closed it down . Yes, I agree water aerobics would be good for me. However, that is the onu time they have it. They just started it up again.. However, the time is worse than before and I didn't go last year. I also have to eat before I go. I have to watch I don't lose to much weight. Doesn't everyone wish they had that problem LOL ?? When I went a couple years ago and it started at 8 a.m. I had to get up so very early to make it. You are also very right about swim suits being very expensive and I hardly ever use them so I hate to spend much money. I know what you mean about docs thinking we are hypochondriacs.

DUCKIE - Have a wonderful and safe trip. Yes, those plane fares and all can cost a fortune and then of course are the meals and such and if you have time for any extra curricular activities like shoes, etc. Growing up in NY, not the city itself Idid get to go to some great shows with my dear aunt who lived in the city as well as DH later on when we were going together. ENJOY and sing pretty !!!

JULIE - Glad you and Den are getting some things done. You must be worn out, I know with everything you have to do . How nice that you can take advantage of Lindseys birthday with the kiddos coming to visit ( or visa versa) LOL.. It will be a nice break for her and her DH I am sure.

SUN - Have a wonderful and restful trip. Will be thinking about you for 10 days.

BARRY - Hope you are feeling better. Come back soon.

ROCK - Hope all is well with you and Gordon. Miss you and so many others when you/they are not here. How many books have you gone through this week, so far?? I know you are an avid reader as is my DH, mostly history books for him though. Helping Gordon with his orchids? Does he trust you to water them correctly? I have no clue?? I love flowers but really don;t know that much about them, each specific one Hope you are doing well or as well as expected. Yes, it is hot here !!! In he 90's again I am sure. How is Ca, hot there too?? I know it is hot in Fl just like here, where MIKIE is.

Love to everydobby and anyone I have missed,
    Granni :)

    Hi Kids

Duckie, thanks for opening up. An amazing Kawinydink. Your picture of the Smokey mts.
and I just finished a book by Bill Bryson. He and a friend walked the Appalachian Trail.
He said the most beautiful area was the Smokey Mts. Also America's most popular National
Park. The book was published 20 years ago. Maybe it's outta date. Nope. Just looked on
the net. Read "The park saw a staggering 11.3 million visitors in 2016." I kinda doubt they
    were all staggering though.

That cherry pitter you posted looks a lot like ice tongs. I hope your Carnegie Hall
experience is all you hope for. Wish I could be there to hear your group.

Mikie, I agree about the sick turtle. Is there no shelter that could take it in? One of
my bridge playing friends had a back yard full of tortoises. Not sure if there was a pond
and turtles too. Anyway he took them in when people had to part with them. Every now
and then he'd report that one of his charges had laid eggs.

Here are some fashion suggestions for you regarding swimwear. The latest thing ca. 1900.
I agree with you about Brussels Sprouts. Gordon sneers at them, but cooks them for me
anyhoo. There's a recipe on the net for a casserole with sprouts, white sauce and cheese.
It also has tomato juice, but I'd leave that out.

Granni, thank you for your kind words. I am fine except that I banged my hand again
this morning. Gordon asked, "How did you do it?" I really don't know. I was putting some
stuff in an envelope and the next thing I knew: Bang! Ouch! We went to the Amelia
Earhart library this morning. Bought a few books and checked out more.

Gonna be slightly less hot here than Texas this week. Supposed to be 88 today; then
in the 70s rest of the week. When we drove to the library this morning the sky was clear
blue, no clouds, and a haze obscuring the mountains.

    Good Thursday Morning, Kids,

Will be getting ready to go to the pool in a while. Claudia won't go as early as my friend, Barb, so I'll stay longer so I can walk with her too. I wake early so it doesn't matter to me when we go. I need to shower so am thinking I'll do some sweaty work outside today. We have some weeds which the gardeners haven't pulled. One is the size of a small tree. I need to work inside but this will be a better use of my schedule.

Granni, when you say you hardly ever use a bathing suit, the only thing which comes to mind is nudie swimming. I'm thinking, wow, that's some swinging place where you live. Just kidding. When I'm working out three times a week, I like to have different suits. I like the two piece but it's difficult to find just the right tops. Yes, it would be a dream for me to have to worry about losing too much weight.

Rock, I was thinking the cherry pitter looks like something the dentist might use. Yikes! We do have a wonderful rehab center and that's where the turtle had been but, when a critter is healed, they release it back into the wild unless it's unable to fend for itself. It's a wonderful group and they take in birds, bats, and mammals of all sorts. They had a panther kitten whose mother abandoned it and it was sent to a zoo because panthers need to spend at least six months with their mothers to learn to hunt for their food. The kitten thrills zoo goes with its antics. Evidently, it plays just like a household kitten. The turtles lay their eggs in the sand on our beaches. Wildlife volunteers put tape on stakes around the nests so they won't be disturbed. The babies are sooo cute. Hope you didn't get lost on the way to the Amelia Earhart Library or run out of fuel. Also hope you didn't get stuck on a traffic island. Now I'm just being plane old silly.

My A/C is running nonstop all afternoon and into the night. We are lucky to have very low electric costs here. My bills seldom go beyond $100 a month. In the wintertime, they are often less than $40. Now that net neutrality has ended, I'm wondering whether we will be paying more for all internet/streaming services. Everything is for sale. I'm thinking the govt. will pal up with some industry to charge us for the air we breathe, the polluted air we breathe.

Hope all y'all stay cool and don't overdo things today.

    Love, Mikie

    Hi, Kids,

Never made it out to do yard work. I worked out walking with Barb at the pool and Claudia came a bit late but I had stayed to walk with her. So, I walked two hours and even managed to get in my three intense training reps. Then, another friend showed up so we stayed in the pool another half hour. I came home to eat lunch and was sooo exhausted and my back hurt so I decided it would be better to stay in and rest. Also, by the time I finally got home and ate lunch, it was getting hot out. We had a short but intense thunderstorm with a couple of lightning/ thunder claps right on top of us. I was holding SV and had to comfort him and tell him that everything was OK. He doesn't like loud storms.

Barry, it sounds sooo cozy and relaxing at your place with the critters hanging around. Yes, there are two Barbs. The one I meet at the pool is a relatively new friend and she is very nice. The old Barb moved up North to live with her daughter. We were always friends but she got so ornery and drove her friends away. I just hung in there and prayed for a miracle. Lo and behold, I got my miracle. She is like a changed person now but I only see her for about a month when her DD brings her down to FL. Still, I'm so glad she isn't so mean and angry. She's a pleasure to be around these days and I hope she stays that way. I'm still not feeling great; my ear is still plugged up and the meds aren't helping. I may have to see the ENT. I hope you get a good dental checkup. We acclimate to the heat and humidity and stay inside with the A/C. Wish I could spend summers somewhere else but I can't so I make the best of it. Feel better, my friend.

Duckie, I'm so glad you got to NYC OK. Keep us updated when you can.

OK, Kids, I'm outta here. I'm watching a new Prime series called, The Last Post, and it's really good. Thank God because there is nothing on these days. Hope all y'all are having a good day.

    Love, Mikie

    Hi Friends

Thanks for checking in, Duckie. On your way to Carnegie Hall ask everyone you can, "How
do I get to Carnegie Hall?" See how many say, "Practice". Have you and your friends been humming New York songs? For example: Broadway Melody; Give My Regard to Broadway. The Joint is Really Jumping Down at Carnegie Hall. I read Judy sang that one. And, of course, there's New York, New York.

Actually there are at least two songs with that name. The one sung by Liza and the one sung
in the Leonard Bernstein's Musical On The Town by three sailors.

Barry, our computer seems to be inhabited by a demon. It spends half its time in the shut off
mode. I have a new regimen for feeding our crazy cat. I put the food out for a few minutes; then
bring the dish in. Tired of leaving it out there for the ants and the slugs. Kitty doesn't seem to mind. Picked several tomatoes this morning. Found two new cozy mystery writers at the library. Will
let you know. Both books have animals on the cover. That's a good sign.

Mikie, thanks for the puns. Are you thinking of doing a TV show on a local channel? Was
that your pilot episode? Show Biz is so complex nowadays. Performers need an agent or
a manager to help them navigate from pillar to post. Someone who is wiley and can attend
    noon an' evening get-togethers.

Gotta go make a compost heap run. Ah, the joys of gardening. Oh, that reminds me. We have
zucchini plants with enormous star shaped flowers. About 6-7 inches across. The ones in
the photo are not as bright as ours.

Dmc - I don’t think that pic of Smokey Mts. can get any clearer. I suppose the air around the whole world was like that at one time before ‘progress’ happened. Breathe in deep for me while you’re there, will you? I looked up some tubes, boy would I enjoy a hike there.

Julie - I guess you’re getting ready to receive the kids. Hope Lyndsey had a lovely birthday. 35 seems like a kid now from where I am. She is so beautiful. I’m happy she does alternative and natural. I think in the long run it’s more effective and better for the planet. Good to know you have been making good progress on your house,p. At last, some prime time for you both to focus on your dream project. I used to buckle at the knees sometimes myself, when you were handling all those issues which kept popping up and kept you from doing things for your own selves.

Granni - a pity you didn’t go to Carnegie Hall. First time I heard of it was from reading a LP record cover with Ike and Tina Turner..it said ‘live at Carnegie Hall.’ And the music was interspersed with hoots and shrieks. badly wanted to watch a show Broadway, because it would’ve been a once in a lifetime thing, but DH wasn’t interested. The Lion King was playing on Broadway. I would’ve loved to just even only walk around that area, take in the billboards and such. I guess we planned it wrong giving only two days for NY.

Barry - we don’t get cherries here. We do get them in tins. But with the cake industry throwing up all sorts of possibilities, due to satellite tv shows and utube DIY, the confectioners and pastry shops are filled to the brim with every kind of new fangled cake and tarts. The once upon a time staple fruit cake has taken a backstep. Giving way to lemon cheesecake and blueberry cupcake and the like. Office workers often buy a muffin or doughnut as snack in between working hours whereas earlier they would eat spicy bean dry or spicy pickled buffalo meat snacks. I suppose rising gastric issues and blood pressure and thyroid problems are also responsible.

Lenny Monty Sylvie and ...quite the crowd there, yes? I wish i toocould keep two cats, theyre very entertaining according to their own personalities . I look at cat videos a lot when i can, theyre more fun than a lot of tv shows.

Rock - Aren’t those squash flowers purty ? Or zucchini as they're known there. Especially draped around fences or walls. We’ve always had them because our helpers who used to stay with us used to plant them. And since they just re grow on their own during season, there’s always a patch of bright yellow somewhere or other. A little bit of work taking down the dried stalks after season is over. Great Especially when they climb trees. Great climbers, they are.

Something calls, I will be back.

Mikie - so glad Barb the bad turned good. Amazing isnt it? Doesnt happen often. Im sorry the health issues continue. Hmmmm looks like Boston suits her better. How was she she last time she came down? We too are getting heavy rains but its scattered all over the city. Often its lashed down hard here and my DD will say it hasnt rained where she is even if she is just fifteen minutes away.

I googled brussels sprouts and no, we dont have them here. They might be at some superstores and priced beyond reason. I wonder whether i should start making sauerkraut, a very simple one. To help keep the ole guts fuctioning as they should. We dont have problems but if theyre good for ones guts, why not? No ones getting any younger.

The World Cup in soccer beginning has given something nice the city to look forward to. Theres excitement everywhere. Every restaurant has a big tv screen and extra busy in evenings. Every shop big and small has soccer shirts of various teams hanging. At the superstore last nite, the guard was gently ushering some straggling shoppers who were looking at a world cup pre commentary away out so the could close shop.

My DDs classmate who has a restaurant and manages it has been given a complimentary ticket to Moscow to watch a game live. The Coca Cola company gives out free trips to their outlets as incentive.

    Hi guys.
Its been quite the challenge playing catch- up in between having to re log on and reset the password etc.

I hv three sisters and a brother and trying to communicate effectively with them in regards to our dad's ashes has been an ordeal, to say the least.
It seems just when i think everyone is on the same page, the reality is, they say they are, but end up doing their own thing.(2 in particular )...
As screwed up as things got for my dad, we all knew what he wanted coz he told us often enough as we were growing up. The unfortunate reality of it all is, if its not in writing, anything can happen!
Dad wanted to donate his body (thinking that'd get him out of any funeral insurance etc), but the uni didnt want it...
When we were growing up he said he wanted the cheapest cremation and no service. He didnt want anything.
He wanted to hv his ashes scattered so as not to be hanging around making people miserable...
    And the fun begins...
After sooo many options for his ashes, including splitting them 5 ways and sending my share in the post.gasp
    Shock horror.
And talk of carrying bits of him in a teeny tiny cannister, to be worn around the neck...
It is safe to say that we are All over it.
Why not stick to the plan?
Why not get together and scatter his ashes? Like he wanted.
Why does it hv to be so difficult ?
    And draining?

Now the plan is, according to my brother, alone,( meaning no one else agrees, but he's going to do it anyway.
Is (poor Mum), to bury some of them under a tree in her backyard
And scatter the rest in the forest.
So, Mum and dad Rented the place she currently lives at, When they were married.past tense.
I cannot even begin to imagine how it would do her head in, to hv dad hangin round in the back yard!
And the forest? Dad never went there.
    Thats my brother's special place.
Where he goes to pick magic mushies.

He was sposed to go and pick the ashes up, but i found out he has booked a ticket to Hong Kong instead.
Aside from a few nonsensical texts, theres not a lot of actual Talking going on.

I hv decided to back out of it all.

It was all making me sick- physically too.
set off a major flare and the anxiety went through the roof.

Oh and did I mention, one sister was going to send us a bill which included ' loss of wages'.
She was dad's favourite in the end, so she got the lucky draw of 'next of kin'...
(He chopped and changed all the time and liked to try and pit each of us against eachother. She became a major suck too and as for Actually Doing anything to help him while he was alive...(insert cricket noise here).

Only one other sister tried to help him and just like me, he ended up thinking she was a part of a conspiracy to hv him killed...he was down right mean and crazy and a good actor...

really messed with my head and trash talked me to even my pastor.

So in between trying to get some idea of what was going on, memory lane was frequently visited- and wasnt great for any of us.

I tried to explain to my brother that dad was actually really proud of him and explained how his own dad, (our g pa), was violent etc and screwed him up, so his own feelings of rejection, inadequacy etc, along with all the fear and craziness, meant he simply didnt hv the tools to be a good dad.
I kinda exaggerated the good bits, but my brother (and sisters) need it.
    Big time.

Anyway, its been pretty tough and I still dont really know whats going on.
I just needed to back out.its obvious my say doesnt count for anything in this instance, so better not to make myself sicker.

Sorry to be such a downer, but dispite what it sounds like, I hv made my peace with my dad, so to speak.

I hv been following along as best I can , with you all and though I couldnt manage to put something up sooner, my heart has been with you all, through the porches as they go by.

I hv to get going, but will visit properly soon.
    Love yas.

    Take care

Star - sorry to hear of your situation..i hope your fathers soul is in heaven..besides the grief and bewildering emotions you are dealing with extra unnecessary stuff. Try and dissuade them from scattering his ashes anywhere other than the sea and certainly not shere your DB goes to take time off. If his soul for some reason doesnt move upwards and intoLight, there might be possibility of it hanging around where the ashes are. Not a desirable thing.

Take care of yourself, dear one.

    Good Friday Morning, Kids,

Went to bed early with my ear plugged and under pressure with horrible tinnitus. This morning, I can feel it building up again. I did the cortisone nasal spray and took an allergy pill. I'm putting a warm rice sock on my ear, face and neck. May have to see my doc if this doesn't clear up.

Rock, one of my favorite NY songs is, I'll Take Manhattan. We sang it in choir. Your noon an' pun is priceless. If there is a Punster Hall of Fame, you belong there front and center. I love the vines and blossoms for squash and punkins. Sooo pretty. Hope your crop is healthy and the harvest is bountiful.

Spring, Barb hadn't spoken to me in several years so I was shocked last year when she timidly said something to me. I immediately sat down next to her and we talked. Since then, she has been like a different person. I think she hated being so angry but didn't know how to approach me. I think she was afraid I might not be open to it. I made it as easy for her as I could. She prefers here to Boston but has no choice now. She can't drive so depends on DD and DSIL for everything. They will come down for a month this winter and I'm actually looking forward to it. Yes, we get a downpour in one hood and the one next to it stays dry. I have a weather app on my phone with radar updated so I can watch the storms roll in and out. It even gives the lightning strikes and how far away they are. Too bad people there are developing the sweet tooth that keeps our country unhealthy and obese.

Star, I'm so sorry for all the stress you've been going through. Sounds as though the dysfunction has been going on for a long time. My ex's family was like that, playing one son against the others. They would reward their favorites, the ones who sucked up to them. It's sick but, unfortunately, not that unusual. Often, after the death of a parent, a lot of old crap comes up. I think when people cross over, they can see things clearly and how their actions hurt others. God loves us and His forgiveness is unlimited. I hope the man is at peace. What he asked for in life probably doesn't mean anything to him now. I don't think it matters what is done with his ashes. It's silly to fight over it and I'm glad you have withdrawn from the madness. There is nothing you can do except to pray for him and try to find peace for yourself. If you need some therapy, it would be good to avail yourself of it if it's available. Otherwise, pray for peace in your heart. I hope you can and that you feel better. You are in my prayers.

Gonna answer Barry's question in a different post. I hope all our Dear Porchies are having a great day.

    Love, Mikie

    Dear Barry,

You posed such an interesting question. I couldn't begin to answer it but it's been on my mind ever since. I don't think Jesus cared about money. He seemed desperate to get his message out to as many people as possible. I think He wanted to keep his life simple so He could focus on ministering to his followers. That His message is still strong 2,000 years later is amazing.

So many who claim to follow Him and preach His message live lives of immense wealth on the donations of their flocks. Others use His message and the Bible to further their own agendas of hate and separation. Unfortunately, we have to try to avoid them and not let them color our own spirituality.

If Jesus had been born into great wealth, I'm pretty sure He would have used it to give to those less fortunate. We have a few very wealthy people today who are doing that: Bill and Melinda Gates; Warren Buffet; and, Michael Bloomberg, to name a few. Unfortunately, there are others, who shall remain nameless here, who use their wealth to buy influence so that they can increase their own wealth at the expense of the poor.

Other prophets who were born into great wealth turned their backs on it and lived lives of poverty in order to leave behind the burdens and temptations that wealth can bring. I can't help but think of Robert Kennedy who didn't become the great man he was until he visited the poorest among us and was so touched by what he saw that he decided to run for the presidency to try to effect change. His life of privilege had protected him from seeing what he needed to see in order that he found his calling. Can't help but wonder where we would be today had he not been murdered.

Thanks for posing such a stimulating question. I don't think wealth in and of itself is evil. I do think men do a lot of evil to gain wealth and power. God bless those who use whatever they have to give for the betterment of the poor, the sick and those without power to help themselves.

    Hi Kids
Just watched two of my favorite Lucy episodes. The "raising chickens in the country" ones.
All the great TV shows and movies depend on great writers. Even more so than the actors,
    I think.

Mikie, I'm glad to see you found Fred Noonan. I also threw Wiley Post into the mix, but
it took a lot of finagling so the finished product is somewhat askew. "Manhattan, and Statan
Island too." I figured it was Johnny Mercer or Cole Porter who wrote the lyrics. Actually it
turned out to be Lorenz Hart who was Richard Rogers partner before Oscar Hammerstein.
    All three were brilliant .

I hope that tinnitus goes away. I was wondering if "tin ear" came from the medical term.
Looked at several sites. None had the derivation. One said it went back to 1935.

You're right about the Bible and people who abuse it. In the past ministers, politicians and
hate groups have quoted it to support bigotry, war, slavery, prohibition, book burning, child abuse, denial of voting rights to women, and on and on. And most recently, why a TV evangelist requires a $54 million jet. "Jesus wouldn't be riding a donkey today," he said."

Gordon is repotting orchids. He talked to his orchid buddy earlier and got the latest on his
latest. He bought an Alexa. One of those modern gadgets you program to connect to all
your other appliances. Then you talk and give commands. "Alexa, turn on the lights. Turn
off the washer." You can program it to do all sorts of complicated stuff. Like order more
detergent when the washing machine sees the need. Way too complex for my small brain.

Next on the home agenda is a haircut. I better get out the bowl and scissors.

    Hugs, All

Another quickie post. Just wanted to post before I went to wash the mop again . I also wanted to mention that the reason I may not be be posting to much this coming week is that DD;s that is trying to move here and DH and son will be coming tomorrow and will be staying for a week. That is what they wanted to do on their vacation. We won't see them as often as the DD they will be staying with, almost next door to us. They will do some stuff together and we won;t be there all the time. They will do some stuff with DGS too , maybe Galveston at the Pier where they have all kinds of rides. if they go there we won't be going. We may do some movies, but I may not go depending on what is playing. DH won;t go to any movies, waste of money and many times I do agree with him. We hardly ever go to movies,s to expensive and most are crap in our opinion bu there are a few I might want to see.

They are also talking about very heavy rains mostly Sunday, Monday and maybe some Tuesday not sure. So we will see. That may wash out some of the plans they were thinking of. Sunday is a local concert at a winery but we probably won't go and they may not either the way they are talking about the weather Fathers Day weekend, etc.

Gotta run and start my mop washing. I hate the whole process especially trying to get it womewhat curled which is hard when you are doing it at night and will be sleeping on it.

Judy - Sorry you are feeling bad. Hope you get to feeling better sooner rather than later.

Thinking of eveydobby and hope all are well. Sorry I didn't get a chance to read everyones post very thoroughly.

In case I donpt get back - Happy Fathers Day to all Dad's out there and those who are lucky enough to have living ones - honor them.. I sure miss mine. Guess my DH will be getting cards and phone calls this weekend.

    Love to awl,
    Granni :)

    Good Saturday Morning, Kids,

Up early. Like Granni, I have to wash my mop before going over to the pool to work out.

Granni, sounds as though you will have a busy week. It is dry here but I'm sure those rains will be here soon too although we do get some which comes over from the East Coast. It feels so good to get into the pool early before it gets too hot out. Makes the whole day better. Enjoy your family.

Rock, I've looked at the Amazon and Google personal assistants but haven't been moved enough to buy one. If I do, it will be during the Black Friday sales.
The biggest reason I'd like one of those is to turn off one of my lamps which is a pain to get at but one I use every day. I can't justify it for only that use but I'd also like something I can ask to pay music. I can do that through my TV because I subscribe to Amazon Prime Music so I'd likely get the Alexa unit. It might come in handy to remind me to do some things since my memory is soooo bad. I saw the preacher on TV asking for his personal jet. Do people really buy into that? What a scam. Who does he think he is--a Presidential Cabinet secretary?

Judy, hope you can stop back in soon.

Joe just called and his cat hasn't pooped in days. He's had her in to the vet and spent a lot of money. The vet gave him medication which is traumatic for him to give her. He's thinking the end may be near and doesn't know what to do. She has pancreatic problems. She is 14 years old. He takes such good care of her; she was his wife's cat. I feel so bad for him. I just hope she doesn't take a turn for the worse over the weekend.

OK, gotta get going. Hoping all y'all are having a great day.

    Love, Mikie

Suns on vacation, Dmc ditto. Julie busy with visiting family. Star busy dealing. JB resting. Gonna be a bit quiet around here.

Mikie - I’m so sad for Joe. Why oh why can’t pets be allowed to just slip away quietly when the time comes? Anyway, she has had a good life it seems. I would love to have that root powder you spoke of for hair. My hair has sprouted more grey at the temples. It’s really irritating getting it done yet again month after month. Pah! I too went with my DD and swam at this hotel not too far off. It’s been so hot on and off. I couldn’t get the right swimsuit.

I d tossed my old one because I haven’t swum for like a decade. Used to go often when the kids were small, wanted them to know how to swim. The good ones cost like FILA, cost a bomb which I not willing to pay. I had to settle for this tacky white and green striped affair with a skirt covering the bottom part and a green flower at the chest. But it was comfortable to swim in.

Yes. Jesus would have given it all away if he were wealthy. He has never been depicted in rich clothing. He knew real peace came from within, not outside. Lord Buddha too when he was a prince gave up his princely life to meditate and sustained himself by begging for alms as did Sai Baba of Shirdi. We have a serial based on sai Baba of Shirdi and it is so interesting. Here is this writer Ruzbeh Bharucha who writes on Sai and it’s so humorously written as are all of his books. But his writings concur with what our Pranic Healing books teach and what the theosophical Society teaches. I’ve read The Fakir, I and II, and the Aum of all Things. I’ve just bought another which I’ve yet to start. They help me understand a great deal about suffering and the whys and wherefores of it.

Granni - that will be nice to have another DD come visit close by. I haven’t been to a movie theatre for months. We used to go pretty regularly but everyone’s so busy these days. The kids go but with their own group of friends. Anyway the type of movies I like don’t come to the theatres a lot. It’s mostly all Avengers and Deadpool n stuff.

JB - so nice to see you stop by if For just a bit. Hope you feel more energetic soon.

Yesterday I ventured out looking for a tree I had seen in someone’s garden and the search took me so far off. To three nurseries and then the Department of Horticulture, Fruits. It was so hot! And I had to walk so much. The Dept distributes fruit trees and the like to the public but a notice said they had finished selling. I still went in, signing myself in and had an interesting time looking at vast expanses of grapes vines neatly staked and even bigger expanses of Japanese pear trees. The fruits were painstakingly tied inside plastic bags each I think to protect from marauding birds.

After walking for ten miniutes through neat hedges bordering the fruit trees up a gentle slope,I atlast came to a big glass paned office. Some women who were tending to the trees outside told me they didn’t have what I wanted. So I just sat down to get my breath back. A healthy, smooth furred very good looking dog came strutting from outside the road climbed up the stairs to the office and jauntily trotted down the long corridor to the other side where some men were languidly making tea on a stove. I was smiling to myself. Rather relaxed govt. office.

It’s raining steadily outside. Luckily my DS and I were able to do our shopping duties before it came pouring down. Had to get in some rice, we buy by the sackful since we have it every day and lentils, oil n all. DS drove me. I tried to get him to buy trousers but the one I showed him he said “he is not getting the right feel about it “and declined to try it out. The store had some pretty umbrellas in transparent and geometric designs so I bought a couple to give as gifts.

I no have to cook today because the DH brought home Chinese takeaway. Veg chow mein. I love those surprises. I mean unexpected break from cooking. I don’t love veg chow mein but I don’t mind having it once in a while.

It says 22 degrees Celsius on the thermometer? about 70 F. Relief!

Hello to Barry, Julie n all.

    God bless

    Good morning, Folks

Can't tell you about the fascinating things I did yesterday. The only thing I can remember
is that I had a 6 hour nap. Oh yeah. We went to library with the grand piano.

Mikie, if an Alexa will make your day easier, then I say, Go for it! I wonder if some folks
would rather have Mr Clean stop by. That's a shame about Joe's cat. I have no idea how
old our cat is. She has steadfastly refused to use the litter box we put out. Gordon is rather
    put out with her.

Granni, how nice that your DD and family are coming for a visit. Hope everydobby has
a great time. I found a pic of the Galveston Amusement Pier. Is that where they will
    be going?

JB, thanks for the Ellen links. Ellen is so popular that just typing "Ellen" on Youtube
takes you to her show. Like all the great funny people of the past, she has writers.
Read a book a few years ago with interviews of comedy writers for radio and TV programs. They all agreed that Jack Benny was the best to work for; Red Skelton was the worst.

Gotta find some bug bite cream. Going back to bed.

    Walked to Times Square yesterday..

Took my first ride on a subway this morning.

I think by the time the weekend is over, I will be very tired of the noise!
