Did you get the number right? I always have to go back and check.
Actually, Mr Dad told me our number was about twenty digits off because
we have made so many mistakes over the years.

Well, what can one do? The answer is, one does one's best. Anyhoo,
we have substantial compliance so that's good enough for me.

Many Happy Returns, Julie. As Lucy said to Ethel, "Happy Birthday. And I
hope you live another 75 years." Did you blow out candles? Did you
    wear a party hat?

Mr. Bill, your cookies are just as delicious as always.

Generally, I dislike holiday weekends. BUT I LOVE this one. Everyone gets along and no one gets mad because you're flying our country's flag. Refreshing.

Julie - Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, Happy birthday dear Julieeeeeeee, happy birthday to you!

Glad you had the kind of day you wanted. Sorry you didn't get to go to the circus though. But if there's a heat alert, better safe than sorry when you gots delicate folks.

Goatie - Knitting for a baby! How fun!

What did you find out about your ancestors?

    Gail - Long hugs

Rock - Have you seen anything interesting lately on your walks with Zippy?

Mr. Bill - Thanks for the cookies. Now where did Jerome put the milk................

Also, I 'm glad you go down off the table. You could have fallen off and really hurt yourself.

I'm sorry your AD didn't work. I hope you'll be able to find one soon that works.

Lincy - Are you back from your cruise yet? How did it go?

Spring - I DO NOT miss the curse! Way too draining. Here's hoping you'll be done with THAT soon!

Elaine and Dem (also known as MIA's) - How y'all doin'? Come set a spell and tell us what's happenin'!

Been kinda quiet around here, ...... sorta.

Sister has developed plantar tumors on both feet. She says they are itchy as well as painful. She's due to have one foot operated on in three weeks. They will do the other foot a month after that.

    This is gonna be interesting.

Didn't get the house, so I'm back to shopping.

Not too disappointed though. They were kinda flakey. They kept changing their minds about the basic rules they wanted to operate by. I didn't want to insist on buying and then get to closing and they change the stipulations AGAIN!

Sister said, "If they love their house that much, let them keep it!". So, I am.

Realtor is in agreement. I think they got on his nerves more than mine though. He was the one dealing with them. I just got the news second hand! hee hee hee hee

Let's see............ what's new around here...................... OH!

    I've got a soldier! I've got a soldier!

Well. as a pen pal anyway.
I found one of thosse places online where you can volunteer to write to a service member that doesn’t receive mail. They ask that you write to your assigned person at least once a month. I figure I can handle that, so I signed up to do my part to support our troops.

I have a Marine. Hope he doesn’t mind corresponding with a nutty, tiara wearing teacher! Hee hee hee

So, that’s about all from my corner of the world.

I see Jerome has found the milk. I’m gonna sit here in a rocker and enjoy the breeze!

Teacher, we must have pressed the "Submit" button simultaneously. My post just
sat there for a while. I pressed Submit again; then it posted twice.

BTW, despite George M. Cohan's 4th of July claim, web biographies say he was
born July 3. He died when I was 2, the same year "Yankee Doodle Dandy" came
out. I read that he saw a little bit of it.

But there was a composer who was born on July 4: Stephen Foster.

That's very nice of you to write to a Marine. Do you have to do it the old
fashioned way w/ pen and paper?

RE: things interesting sights while walking, Zippy and I often see other dog walkers.
There's a young man I've seen whizzing along the street several times. He's
on a skateboard. His dog is on a leash. The dog pulls the skateboard. They
    go pretty fast too.

    Uff-da!

Tonight hopefully he will get off earlier and not be so tired. Went out and ate at Red Lobster lat night, pretty good and even had some to bring home for lunch today. They have a neat special for awhile 4 courses for $15 (not counting tx and tip of course). Also didn;t count our drink. Had a nice cold Margarita.

Its 10:30pm and getting ready to hit the sack after watching some tv.

visited MIL at last; took some chilli chicken i made, halleluiah! (I got the energy!)
and i also called up my DHs littlest cousin sis because she had told me she also
wanted to visit MIL but preferred if someone else was also there, so it would
    be easier to talk.

I had a good talk with her and with BIL who came down after ironing his clothes.
we had dinner there (cousin sis brought some fried riceball with veg in them which
her mom had made) and MIL served lentils and some bamboo shoots she had
brought from the border of Tibet. And the chicken i had made.

BIL reached us back since it was dark. Im so glad i was able to cross that visit off
my to do list. Been too long. MIL was in a very nice mood and pleased to have visitors.

At home i and son did my pranic healing meditation, its a audio CD where we follow
instructions and send out blessings to the world. I was relieved son kept his promise
of the morning and didnt make a fuss. sometimes he is so unwilling to sit down because
he finds it hard to sit still for many moments.

Then later i spoke to daughter. she will soon be home with us. she said she has a
three day weekend and planned to go to the beach and also watch the fireworks
    on 4th of July.

Granni - you seem to be having a full few days of it. And enjoying it hugely. Its
nice to go on family visits from time to time.

Julie - you too. The weather is very hot there now? here, mercifully we have had
rain and its been cool enough to walk.

Teacher - lol, i was laughing thinking of the real estate manager and his headache
dealing with that prospective house owner. Anyways, i hope you will find another
    one soon.

Rock - a guy 'walking' his dog on a skateboard and being pulled by the dog! i told
you what an interesting neighbourhood you seem to be living in.

Mr Bill - sorry you got side effects from the AD. Thats the story of my life. never
    could tolerate most.

everydobby take care...including MIAs Elaine, Carla, Linda all.

Can you play and sing all those songs? I used to have several thousand
records. Long playing records. Invented when I was in 3rd grade. Obsolete
    in less than 40 years.

Anyway I had lots and lots of patriotic recordings including some marches
composed and conducted by John Philip Sousa. Did you know he was once
Director of the Marine Band? Meredith Wilson played piccolo in Sousa's
civilian band and later wrote "The Music Man".

Know where the melody of the Marine Hymn comes from? An operetta
    by Offenbach.

Know what the last line of the Air Force song used to? Nothing'll stop
    the Army Air Corps.

Know who was the first to sing God Bless America? Kate Smith.

Know who wrote "This Land is Your Land"? Woodie Guthrie.

Know how many notes it takes to play taps? Three or 4 depending on how
you count. C, F, A, and the C an octave above.

We used to sing "My Country Tis of Thee" every morning in grade school.
Then we said the Pledge of Allegiance. When I was a teenager, they amended
the Pledge to include the words "Under God".

When I was a kid, it was common to say the Pledge at public gatherings.
That seemed to fade away once I was an adult.

Thanks for the patriotic and musical post.

Happy Fourth of July! Hope America had a good birthday!

Teacher - I would have loved to see all the houses with
Their flags and the festive air in the whole country.
Our Independence Day in India was always a very
Exciting time. All the schools had to take part in the
March past and then it was one long day of eating,
Watching dances/exhibits and then the football
Final on the town grounds. I cant remember one
Independence day that wasn’t exciting. Of course
I was young then. Maybe for my parents it didn’t
    Hold as much charm.

Granni – are you home yet? Sorry to hear you
Weren’t able to go to the winery but hope you
Did some other things after that. I wish I had
Relatives in nearby towns I could visit from
Time to time. But my aunt lives in India and
    An hours flight away.

Julie – left you a post on FB. I know its been
A difficult couple of weeks now with something
Going on everynow and then. I pray for your
Dear parents health and yours, n all of you who
Are having to handle the added challenges.

Gail – I hope you good. Nice of you to pop
    In.

Rock – how is your neighbourhood during
4th of July? Is it crazier than usual? We had
to sing hymns every morning at assembly
and the national anthem only on occasions.

lost a post yesterday and one today because of flickering lights so decided to
do this in two parts. i manged to keep my temper admirably well. Delved deep
down into my Buddha nature and was able to prevent myself from giving into
my baser instincts and whacking the computer one.

I wasted whole of yesterday morning and afternoon feeling tired and then
when dh came back in evening i left him in charge and went off for a walk.
that is i walked some and took a bus ride part of the way to where the
monasteries are located. just to clear my head.

bought some tofu and some pumpkin vine for tomorrows meal. tempted to
buy some fish and gave up after seeing some fish swimming in a little tub
    to keep them fresh. augh!

wanted to buy some mangoes but found my arms too tired after all that
walking and riding squashed up in a noisy bus. so just decided to enjoy
the evening air during the walk back. it was wet and cool and i always enjoy
    that.

i found although my body was tired my mind hasnt been down in the dumps.
and that is such a major up for me. i hate feeling sad. and like theres nothing
    to look forward to.

today theres some piled up chores to tackle. a room ful of laundry. a little damp
due to the rainy season and i have to give myhair a really good oil and bathe.

Yes, I can sing and/or play all of those songs. Sometimes I accompany myself on the piano, sometimes I use a recording.

I use the umbrella term 'recording' because I have many options. I don't have thousands of LP's but I have enough. Several include patriotic tunes.

If I get tired of my records (LP, singles, 45's), I pull out my cassette tapes or my CD's.

I don't have any 8-tracks. Mom only bought one of those when they came out and her stereo doesn't work anymore.

I don't have any patriotic music on our reel-to-reel. Those are all church related.

I don't have an iPod so I'm not into music on MP3's. If I can't touch it, it ain't a recording!

You'll be happy to know that I start every school year with patriotic music. It's a sneaky way to find out if I have any Jehovah's Witnesses in my classes. It's also a bold statement that if you live here, you need to know your country's songs.

My darlin's can sing these songs and more. They just LOVE to sing all three verses to 'The Star-Spangled Banner' and 'Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing'.

When I pulled out the military music, they thought they had died and gone to heaven!

Sometimes, I have to tell them "No" though. My fingers get tired after a while. Why? 'Cause when one class begs, the rest of the school hears about it and THEY beg! They's sing this stuff all year 'round with no complaints if I'd let them!

    hee hee hee hee

Yes, I knew Sousa was the director of the Marine Band. I did not know Meredith Wilson played for him though.

I like making my students watch "The Music Man" and any other musical I can get my hands on. These kids know nothing about that kind of entertainment.

I didn't know the tune for the Marine's came from Offenbach. Do you know which one? I like sharing that kind of stuff in class. It makes the darlin's think that music doesn't just "happen".

I knew about the Air Force/Air Corps connection. I tell my kiddies about it. It's because there didn't used to be an Air Force.

There was just the Army, the Navy, and the Marines. The Air Force pulled out of the Army because that part was getting pretty large and was getting to be too much for one unit to oversee.

FYI, most of the military lyrics posted here are the CLEAN ones. I can't use the ones they normally use in the classroom!

    hee hee hee hee

I knew Kate Smith was the most famouly recorded person to sing 'God Bless America'. I didn't know she was the first.

Did she debut that on the Ed Sullivan Show? If she did, I have a copy of that!

I was rummaging around in the clearance bin at a video store. They were trying to get rid of the last of their VHS tapes. I found a tape contained all of the patriotc acts that he had had on his show. She's on there.

The kids LOVE that tape. I'm going to have to get it converted to DVD so I don't lose it.

'This Land Is Your Land' is a hit from 2nd Grade on. That's the one that really wears my hands out. Can't sing just the refrain, dontcha know! Gotta sing the whole entire thang!!!!

'Taps' is more powerful on bugle. Voice doesn't really do it, but it can be done.

The hair stood up on the back of my neck when I heard it at Arlington Cemetary.

I was there early in the morning, in time for the first 'Changing of the Guard' at the Tomb of the Unknown soldier.

    It was downright chilling.

'My Country 'Tis of Thee'. A lot of people don't know that the proper name is 'America'.

Did you know that tune was borrowed from England? 'God Save the Queen'.

We say the Pleged every morning at school. It has been set to music two or three times. One of those settings is in my collection that we sing at school.

I knew that 'Under God' was added later. Do you know why?

Unfortunately, this country has let down on a lot of it's patriotic traditions. I'm doing my part to keep it alive. As we all know, if you don't know your history, you're doomed to repeat it.

You are most welcome for the patriotically musical post. I had fun singing while I was typing.

Busy, busy, busy !! Just got home on Sunday from DD's have been trying to catch up ever since. Didn't do much of anything else on the 4th except had a couple over for drinks last night before dinner. We just chatted.

Ran around yesterday and got a new mattress and took advantage of all the sales. We should get it on Thursday. Ours was getting old and this one has some memory foam which may be helpful for the pain. DH didn't want all memory foam so we didn't get it. They also were very expensive. We also got two free pillows with it. Anxious to try it out.

Teacher - Loved all your patriotic and 4th of July special songs, etc. I think I knew them all. Nowadays Iam not so sure at least at some schools. We also had to stand up in elementary school to say the Pledge of Alligence. Now wthat we are in TX (for plus 30 years) I found also tht those living in TX at tha time also stood up and gave the pledge for TX. as well as the Pledge for the USA. It is a short one and I can't remember it off hand. I can say parts of it when others start :)!!

Did you say you found a new home ? Hope so and hope all goes well.

Julie - sorry to hear about your Mom and Dad having more problems. Hope things get better for them both soon althoughit does seem that your dad is having more problems, than usual with his dementia. Perhaps it is partly due to your mom's sudden illness. Hope you had a nice 4th and things went OK with your parents and a good birthday considering all going on with you and AWL.

Rock - Hope you are doing OK and your computer behaving itself.

Bill - thanks again for the cookies. They were yummy.

Spring Water - Hope you got a bit of NRG today and feeling like doing something productive or at least for yourself.

Elaine, Carla, Mickey, Linda, Jole and all you many MIA's we all miss you.

Have to go soon to sing at two places with our small singing group, first to a Sr. group at the Baptist church and then to a senior residence. We even get lunch at the first one -great !! They always have good food.

    Love to everydobby,
    Granni

No I really do not have much NRG. I do what I like and the leaders tell me to do. Thank God church choir is over for the summer till some time in Aug. We have one performance for our small group tomorrow and one next week and then we are off for the summer too.

We only went shopping for a matteress yesterday to take advanatage of the sales. DH drove thank goodness. My house still needs a good cleaning :)!!!

Yes, I have FM and I am guessing some CFS. I think the pain just wears me down sometimes. I just try not to complain as you know no one likes to hear it and it doesn't help the situation any. I have had the pain esp in head, neck and shoulders for over 25 years and sometimes everywhere else too. I wish I could afford a housekeeper and keep saying I will get one to come come in every now and then to clean but it hasn't happened yet. If we had more $ I surely wouldn't hesitate so much.

I don't really take any pain pills either. The strong ones, I'm afraid will make me feel more loopy and I am still driving and such. Occasionally I take Tylenol arthritis (at the advice of my doc). I do take Flexeril at night and klonopin (gen) 1/2 pill to sleep. I also take b/p meds as you know and hate to get into more pills. I take quite a few supps too as you know. I truly wouldn't know what feeling normal with no pain feels like any more , so I just function. I know people who do not know me just think I'm feeling fine and dandy.

I have almost always been a positive person . As I have mentioned before, my music is my THERAPY as well as coming here to the Porch and being on the Boards periodically where I can chat and vent. Otrhers tht do not havea these problems, as you know really do not understand, even if s they say they do. I know my husband really doesn't either. I know he tries and says he does though.

Well, enough if this blabbing. I wish we didn't have a program tomorrow but after our group almost dispanded due to our old doirector moving to an asssited living place with her husband we had to stop for awhile. We have another piano player who has cancer so is dealing with that and her treatments too. Luckily, we have another pianist who is absolutely amazing. She is either 92 or 93 and is so talented still even if her body is giving her problems now. So she played for uss today and maybe tomorrow not sure. So we are trying to get back in sinc again before taking a summer break. It is so HOT now though . Tomorrow is an afternoon program at an assisted living/NH facility. It will be quite hot tomorrow afternoon, probably close to 100 or hi 90's.

Where is Mickey or somebody when I need her to help me clean my house too ??

    Thinking of everydobby !!

Jam, feel free to come sit and chat on the Porch any ol' time. The more the merrier.

Jerome will get you some fresh milk from Mr. Bill's cow to go with the cookies he brings!

You can snack while Granni and Julie go whizing by and watch Goatie spin.

When you're done with that, Spring will roast you some chicken and Rock will tell you stories and jokes.

Fun will be had by all.

    Speaking of fun.

My favorite aunt on my dad's side surprised us with a visit yesterday. Didn't know she was coming. She's here unitl Friday. Woo hoo!

Dad and Sister are so excited. They have thrown out common sense/courtesy and are being COMPLETELY difficult.

I know it's not her fault, but I almost wish she was gone already. 'Course, it didn't help that she didn't say anything to Mom directly. She just spoke to Dad and Sister and neither one of them is good at passing on messages.

    <sigh>

I'm going to enjoy her visit.

I'm going to enjoy her visit.

    Anyway.

I'm going to have a broken toe before this weekend is over. I keep kicking large heavy inanimate objects. It's a wonder the poor thing isn't blue!

I have gone back to the house shopping part of my routine. The oweners of the house I liked decided they didn't want to part with their property, so I'm waving bye-bye as I head out to look at other places.

Also having fun right now with my computer acting completely retarded. I've got to call about it again.

So, my dears, I'm not sure if I'll get back before Saturday. All I know is Aunt is leaving Friday. I'll have to find out when.

Try not to do anything crazy while I'm gone. I don't wanna hear about anyone breaking their neck on Bill's cow!

    Kisses

Not much time to be on here and will busy when DH gets home.

Bill - I'll take some 2 maters if you have xtras? I lovew fresh 2 maters but now have no place to plant them with little sun in most places. Hope you get some more NRG !!

Jam - do you take the regular enteric coated aspirin tabs? How many do you take daily? Have you had any problems with you tummy ? I know though that it probably gives the least of the side effects. Remember growing up everything was aspirin and gave them to the kids too. Then, everything changed to acetomenophen - tylenol and now that has side effects too, inc. liver damage. Nothing you can take without having some side effect or problems.

I was thinking of aspirin and I am also taking Super K with K2 and wonder if the aspirin would cause any problems with bleeding/clotting. I have little problems with bleeding that I know of. Maybe I will start slowly and see how it goes. Also going on a plane trip to NY in Aug. but it is not to long a flight and there is the worry of thrombosis esp since I am taking Strontium citrate for my osteoporosis. So much to think about.

Thanks for the idea Jam about good old aspirin. It used to almost be a wonder drug years ago as I know you are old enough to remember like me :)!!!

I'll be off to work out some with DH when he comes back (not my idea but I know we both need to for different reasons). I need it esp for osteoporosis and also flexibility and strengh for the FM. We have been trying to go 2x a week but have been bad of late. Then have to go sing . Yay will be glad when that is the last performance this week only one more for the summer. I enjoy the singing but getting ready to go and driving there is a major pain for me.

Bye for now and love to all,
    Granni

for the info. Not much time to write right now but will try to later on tomorrow. My mom always used aspirin but I think it was mostly the generic or store brands- didn't have much $. She had arthritis for years even as a child and people didn't believe her then. Children didn't have arthritis they believed at that time. Now we know better.

    TTYL !
