I'm currently 23 weeks pregnant and not sure what's going on. This is my third baby, and I never had this with my other two. Years ago I was diagnosed by a rheumy as having FMS. I was also referred to an infectious disease specialist since I was having constant low-grade fevers, and I was diagnosed with CFS. After struggling with pain and crippling fatigue for a few years, I started to regain some normalcy in my life and began to feel better. I have two 8-year old son and a 13-month old daughter. After my daughter was born I went back to the rheumy because I was having alot of pain. They decided to do the whole workup again to rule out other causes, since it had been 4+ years since I had been there. The only thing that came back abnormal was that my vitamin D level was low. They put me on 50000 units of Vitamin D3 once a week for a few weeks. I never had my level re-tested after that, though.

The last few days my muscles and joints have been sooooo painful. My whole body hurts. It feels like I'm coming down with the flu with no fever. I AM getting over a cold, but I've never felt like this with a cold. It's been 3 days now and my whole body still aches. It would almost be easier to have the flu because at least I know that would pass. I've been extremely tired and it was found that my hemoglobin was low, so they said I'm anemic. However, they tested my iron level and it was on the low-end of normal. I've had alot of issues with morning sickness this time around, so I haven't been able to take my prenatals. Because of that, they chose to have me do iron infusions twice a week for 4 weeks, then once a week for 2 weeks. I'm in the 2nd trimester now, which is when most women feel better. I'm still waiting for that 2nd trimester honeymoon period.

Anyway, do you think this sounds like a possible relapse? Or could this just be related to this cold that I'm fighting? Or perhaps it's just normal pregnancy stuff? I don't know what to think. All I know is that I'm in terrible pain.

I would be highly suspicious for a chronic borrelia burgdorferi infection (lyme) and associated coinfections like bartonella, babesia and ehrlichia.

It is imperative for you to know that lyme should NEVER be ruled out with just a lab test, which is exactly what 99% of Dr's do.....leaving many, many people undiagnosed and untreated.

Constant low grade fevers can be associated with bartonella.

Remember that FMS and CFS are syndromes.....sets of symptoms.....given a name because Dr's did not know what else it was. They say it has "no known cause".

Everything has a cause...they are just not helping you find it.

Your illness is likely the symptom of a bigger picture that Dr's are missing.

You may have had a "lyme test" which was negative, whereupon the Dr said you didn't have lyme.

Many people with lyme have only ever had negative tests....including me. Testing methods are poor and not accurate. Tests actually miss most cases of lyme.

99% of Dr's do not know how to recognize, diagnose or treat chronic tick-borne infections.

Your story sounds familiar. My daughter also has lyme and coinfections and didn't know it.

I fear that she has passed it to her children. It can be transmitted through the placenta and through breastfeeding, and can also be sexually transmitted.

You can go to's Medical Questions board and post any questions you want. There are alot of experienced people there who started out with FMS and CFS diagnoses and later found out they had lyme.

    Please read the following info carefully.....symptom list p 9-11....coinfection info p 22-27....

We also have a lyme board here where you can get info.

    All the best to you.
