thanks for responding to my question on hiatus hernia. Were your endoscopy results normal and is so what explanation does your doctor give you. Are you on meds for your hernia, if so which ones. Do you get nauseated from this condition. My rib pains are chronic for the last 3 months. Pain is felt all day and night.(at times really severe). I'm due for an endoscopy as well. I did an upper gi last month and everything was normal. Maybe it's gas built up. I'm one confused patient. By the way I'm 31 years of age, I'm from Toronto, Canada, I have 2 boys aged 2 and 4 and suffer with this condition for about 8 years.

    Talk to you soon,
    Tes

P.S. Muscles are probably the culprit here!

The results from my endocsopy were my stomach was inflamed and I have a hernia. I take Nexium for the problem and it helps. if I don't take it I am miserable!
I don't know how much stress you are under, but one of my Doctors suggested that the pain could be from stress and you know that stress can do a number on your body!!

I noticed your post to Shanon. I have Costrocondritis and I am flaring with it right now. Do you have any questions That I might be able to help you with?

    Your concern is greatly appreciated.
    Where are you from?

Sorry it took me so long to respond.
I take mine once a day in the morning. My doc said it best on an empty stomach. He said it works better. I am not sure what my miligram is. I have been known to take 2 a day if I am really having problems. I have not had any side effects that I know of. But I have so many other problems I probably wouldn't notice(ha-ha). I noticed the difference the next day, I hope it works that quick for you!!
My costo is really bothering me in my chest area. Do you have it?
I know all too well about stress!!! My job is killing me! I'm sorry your having a tough time. How old are your boys?
I live in Birmingham, Alabama and no I am not a red neck, ha-ha. Well I am here if you ever need an ear or I can help! Where do you live?

for getting back to me. I was just wondering if the nexium helps for built up gas around the upper stomach area. I get alot of gas and it feel like it's coming from up high. My boys are 2 and 4. Very demanding little guys. I am a stay at home mom right now. Sometimes I wonder if working would make me feel better. Do you have any children? I'm waiting to get an appointment for an endoscopy. I did an upper gi and it was normal. I live in Toronto, Canada. Nice place to live. My chest feels very heavy right now but my lower ribs are in horrific pain. Sometimes I wonder how I do all that I do.

Hope you feel better and talk to you soon,

I know what you mean about the gas!!! It may help a little, but since I have had stomach probs I have more gas than I ever had in my life. It hurts really bad sometimes.
Let me know when you get your test scheduled. I hope everthing is alright when you have your test. Maybe you can at least get some answers. I know exactly how you feel!
    It gets very frustrating.
I am depressed today. I have been awake all night long do you ever have those? I have to be at work and be nice and I don't feel like being nice. Do you know what I mean?
From my point of view, if you don't have to work don't it is just more to worry about. With your 2 little boys that is all the work you need!
I had a total hysterectomy when I was 27, my children are a Black Lab named Jackson and a cat named Raskal. They are just like children to me, I love them as much as people love their kids. I know some people think I am crazy to say that, but if your don't have kids then you would understand where I am coming from.
I am lucky that I have a very supportive husband and family!!

I am having an ultra-sound or my stomach and a colonoscopy on Friday. I am not looking forward to that. I have been
having so many different pains in my stomach lately from upper to lower.

    Sorry this was so long.

I'm sure it will Kayfrey. I've done so many tests in the past year than most people haven't even done in their lifetime. I'm confidend your tests will go well. Let me know how it went. I know sometimes I feel like being told that there is something wrong, so it can be fixed. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. There is so many discomforts and pains that go hand in hand with fibro, I sometimes find it hard to believe. Do you feel your pains deep inside or on the surface of the skin. I myself, feel most of main pain on the surface and I think that's how fibro works. Since it's all muscleskelotal(sp?). Right know my ribs are burning, pins and needle sensation and very painful. How do you work like this? Are you on any medications for the pain? Anyways, my little one is starting to act up, time for his nap, so post back if you'd like.

God Bless and feel better soon,
    Tes

P.S. Yes, I also have alot of sleepless nights due to the pain. What do you do for a living. I used to work for a high end stock broker doing accounting, before all this crap started.[This Message was Edited on 10/23/2002]

Thanks for caring!! I will be glad just to know one way or another!
I miss quite a bit of work lately and I start worring and then I get stressed even more a vicious circle!
I work for Executive Office Suites. We have about 30 tenants all different types of businesses CPA's, Attorneys,
Real Estate, Sales, ETC. They rent office space from us and we provide all their Secretarial, phone answering faxing everything. So basicly I am working for 30 companies.
I know what you mean about so many different things wrong!
I hurt bothe outside and in. It hurts just to barely rub my arm somedays! I take Loratab for the pain, if I didn't have that I don't know what I would do. I get alot of headaches. I also take Serzone for depression and Klonapin for restless legs.

    Talk to you soon!

Just wondering if any of those pain killers you take are narcotics. I just had to take a tylenol #2 because I can't stand the pain anymore. Constant burning, gnawing and pressure right in my lower ribcage. Last night I had a horrible episode of abnomal pain with tons of gas. Lasted about 4 hours. Do your ribs hurt constant? I don't think that it could be from the hiatus hernia. Have had it for 9 years and never had a problem. I read an fms article that said the pain places fibro hits is the chest, ribs, back and thighs. So I guess my chest pains wasn't enought for me to endure, now this. God! What does your doctor tell you the pain is from. Anyways, good luck with your colonoscopy and let me know how it goes. Get back to me.

    Take care,

P.S. Have you had an ultrasound in your abnomen to rule out anything with your gallbladder, liver, pancreas?

It's Tes. Just wondering how your colonoscopy went. Heard it's a real uncomfortable test. Why did you do a stomach ultrasound? An endoscopy is the most valuable test around for the stomach. I did an upper gi and was normal, but my doc is scheduling me for an endoscopy just to be on the safe side. Probably will take 3 months to get an appointment. Here in Canada all our medical expenses are covered but takes FOREVER to get an appointment for tests. Anyways hope your feeling better and hope to hear from you soon.

    HI!
Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you, thing have been crazy.
Well, my tests came back that everything looked fine, which is great, that I don't have cancer or any other major disease. Just IBS and a Spastic Colon. Both my Dr's.
say that the FM and Stress are the factors in my stomach problems. That is just great because my job will never get any less stressful.

Then I had to miss work again on Wednesday because I had a migrain. It is just a vicious cycle!!! Thanks for thinking of me. You will have to keep in touch and let me know how you are doing and the results from your test. Did the Nexium ever kick in and give you any relief? I am so achey today It looks like I am going to have to take a Loratab.
I feel like I might be getting a sinus infection. It just seems that it it one thing after another!! No wonder I get depressed often, does that ever happen to you?

Hope to tale to you soon!

P.S. My ultra sound was fine also. I had an endoscopy about 4 Months ago. Didn't you ask me if I had one? The Fog![This Message was Edited on 11/01/2002]

I'm glad to hear that everything went well with your tests. One less thing to worry about. My endoscopy is scheduled for Febuary 2003. I can't believe the long wait. But they have me on a cancellation list. I'm still in a bad flare. Ribs and stomach are killing me today. We got some snow this morning. What a drag!! I tried the nexium and it didn't help me at all. I'm starting to wonder if this could all be from fm. Did your doctor tell you how it affects the stomach considering nothing is ever found wrong. Why is it that it hurts? Is it the stomach muscles? This dd is so nerve recking. No wonder we suffer from depression as well. Was the colonoscopy uncomfortable and were you put under? Anyways, it's time to feed my children their lunch so I'll check in later. Once again, it was soooo nice to hear from you and hope to chat soon.

I can't believe you have to wait so long for that test. Why so long?
My doctor told me before I had the colonoscopy that the tube running from the stomach down(you know at the end of your rib cage where it hurts so bad) anyway he said it is a hollow tube and when you get stressed you stomach has spasms and the tube contracts and he said "it hurts like hell!". He explained to me that when people have kidney stones it is not necessarily the stone that hurts it is the contractions or the spasms trying to push the stone out. So that makes sense to me!!
My Gastro did knock me out for the colonoscopy and the endoscopy, so I remember nothing!!
He wants me to have one more test, but I just don't know if I want to go through it, you know what I mean?
I am sorry the nexium didn't help. Have you tried Prevacid, I used that before the Nexium and it helped, the Nexium is newer.

Great to hear from you, hope to talk soon!

Hi Kayfrey. Just finished reading your post. Quite interesting! What tube are you talking about? The esophogus? Because my pain is below the breast area. The reason we wait so long to get tests done in Canada is because our Health system is suffering. Lots of cut backs, layoffs etc. So there is not enough staff. Like I said in an earlier post, our health care is paid for, but it takes forever to get appointments with specialists. What other test does your doctor want to do on you? Haven't you been through enough already? You poor thing. I vaguely remember you saying that you had a hysterctomy earlier in your life. Just wondering if the abnominal surgery for this has caused you to develop ibs. Reason I'm saying this is because I myself have had 2 c-sections with the delivery of both my boys. And since the last one(June 2000), I've been suffering with tons of pain in that area(lower ribs and midsection). I think abnominal surgeries leave lasting affects on an individual. Just my opinion!!! Nice chatting with you again. Amazing how much knowledge I've aquired since signing on this board. I love it.

No not the esophogus, it is just part of the digestive system. It starts at the bottom of the rib cage, in between the ribs the top of your stomach. That is where I hurt so bad.It is just a hollow tube that carries the food to the stomach.

The other test he wants me to do is where they give you the bafium enema. I don't know if I want to go through that. I have been through enough!!! That test would be worse that the colonoscopy!

I did a stomach barium, where I drank this nasty tasting liquid and then as it coated my stomach they x-rayed. They also followed it through my small intestines. All was normal. The barium enema that your talking about is the same type of liquid, but instead of drinking it they put it in at the other end. I think a colonoscopy is a more sophisticated test and if that came back normal I'd feel at ease. But by all means, you do what you have to do. Since the barium test came back normal for me, they want to do an endoscopy. Another question for you. When you get the pain in your lower ribs down by the belly button, how long does it last for you? Do you get constipated as well. My rib pain bugs me daily, but when I get that other pain near my belly button it last for about 24hrs. Sorry for a long post. Talk to you very soon.

    Tes

P.S. what did you make of my explanation on surgeries causing ibs, spastic colons?

When you get the pains in your stomach, is it at your belly button area and across? Does it affect your back as well? When my pain hits me there it is constant and lasts for days. It's a weird feeling, not sharp but a weird kind of cramping. Does this sound familiar to you. Just curious if that's how it is for you. So, your doctor tells you fm and stress can do this. How long does this happen to you for?
