My doctor just started me on Trazadone for depression and sleep. I'm also on Wellbutrin SR for depression as well. He said that the Trazadone would make me sleep. I took it for the first time last night and it kept me wide awake. I was outside at 2:30 am this morning pruning my flowers. Then finally fell asleep after taking a Klonopin at 4:00am this morning. I also felt like I was freezing to death all night long yet I was sweating so bad I was soaked from head to toe. I don't understand this. Has anyone else had either of these experiences while taking Trazadone? Can you tell me what it does to you? And do any of you freeze so badly yet sweat to death at the same time until your drenching wet? Can anyone give any input on this medication and your experience on it? Thank you in advance.

I HAVE BEEN ON EFFEXSOR FOR YEARS ABOUT 13 YEARS TO BE EXACT. SINCE THIS ANTI-DEPRESANT CAUSES ISOMINA I WAS GIVEN THIS MEDICATION TO HELP OVERCOME THIS SIDE EFFECT. I TOOK IT FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS AND IT DID HELP ME TO SLEEP. THAN I CAME OFF OF IT FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS. AFTER I WAS DX WITH FIBRO IN NOVEMBER OF 2002 I WAS GIVEN TRANSDONE(DESYRL) AGAIN TO HELP ME SLEEP. IT HELPED ME TO SLEEP. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TRANSDONE AND AMBIEN WAS THAT I HAD THE DRUG OUT FEELING WITH THE TRANSDONE. ALL ANTI-DEPRESSANTS HAVE A SIDE EFFECT OF MAKING YOU SWEAT. BUT IF YOU ARE A FEMALE IN THE AGE LIMIT FOR MEMOPAUSE YOU CAN ALSO HAVE THE SWEATS FROM BOTH THOSE THINGS. BUT EVEN THE EFFEXSOR I TAKE GIVES ME THE SWEATS SOMETIMES.I LOOKED AT YOUR PROFILE AND YOU ARE A VERY NICE LOOKING LADY.I ALSO WAS IN THE MEDICAL FIELD MYSELF WHEN I WORKED. BUT I HAVE BEEN OUT OF WORK SINCE 1996. I HOPE THIS INFO HELPS YOU. AND HERE IS WISHING YOU A PAIN FREE DAY. JANICE

I have been taking trazadone for years, on and off.

I have tried many other meds, and this one seems to work best for me.
What dose are you on??? I have a high med tolerance so I take 150mg to sleep (3 tablets). I have tried 1 and 2 but they don't get me to sleep. I do get a better sleep and stay asleep better.

As for the sweats I get them really bad, but not from the trazadone. I was on the trazadone a long time before the bad sweats started. I at times have to change my night shirt 2 times a night and have even had to go and sleep somewhere else as my side of the bed was so damp.

The Dr has me taking black kohash and evening primrose oil for the sweats. It does seem to be helping with the worst of it.

    Hope this helps.

When I had a Discs that went bad in my neck, I had a Neruologist put me on the Deseryl he told me that it would help me to sleep, and also to raise the Pain Tollerence in my Brain.

What it did was give me Nightmares, and it also made me hungover/no energy at all. So after a few months the put me on Palamor, sorry spelling is messed up today.
Well the Pamalor wored a little better. They also put me on Flexeril and I went through the roof with that one.

So I take Xanax, since I only have Anxiety/Stress, and not Deperssion. It never helped me with the Pain.

It could be what helps you tho, so if your Dr. thinks it would help you, I'd try it. But is that the only reason he's giving you the Deseryl? for sleep? Also isn't Paxil in the same family as the Deseryl? Maybe your getting to much med. Be sure to let the Dr. know about pruning the bushes. ;o)

    Sincerely

I took trazadone for several years for depression and sleep. It might have helped with the depression but it definitely didn't help with my sleep. I'd be wide awake at 3 in the morning, just a lot more groggy with the trazadone than without it. I finally persuaded my doc that it wasn't working. We tried Ambien next, which lso didn't work. Now we are using Remerron, which does seem to help. Finding a good sleep aide is so difficult for FMS patients, and what works for one may not work for another, and what works at one time might not work later. Good luck to you. (Just a thought-have you tried valerian? It's OTC and can be found at most health food stores. Worth a try.)

I was on Trazadone for a couple of months, and it helped me to sleep (no insomnia)

Also, I sweat and I freeze at the same time - or I'll be sweating one moment and freezing the next

My thermostat is like a yo-yo!

It was of great help to me. I took another Trazadone last night, only half, and I repeated the night before all over again. I simply don't understand the freezing and then sweating, but now I know I'm not the only one. I have too much medication here though I know it's to help me, but my goodness. I will call my doctor to see if there is another alternative. Thank you all for your responses.

My doctor prescribed the Trazadone after when muscle relaxant failed to help me relaw and sleep through the night.
It makes me groggy the next morning only half of the time.
Being perimenopausal, I was not sure if that was casuing my
sweats and chills. But now that I have read some of your posts, maybe the trazadone is attributing to my temperature
    flux as well.

i was on trazodone for about 2 months, due to a bad flare
in the winter. it did help me to sleep but left me feeling spaced out the next day. i didn't notice any sweating ,and i get very cold a lot of the time anyway. i was interested to read that you got nightmares too ,Sharon. i had a lot, including the worst one of my life (nuclear war) which really scared me to death. i'm glad to think it was probably the trazodone and not just me... now i'm back on Stilnocht (zolpidem) which is not so heavy and i don't dream so much.

    sweet dreams everyone

    Hey,
I was put on Tradadone for sleep as well, and it niether helped me get to sleep or keep me asleep. I find most antidepressants useless for sleep. However when I was given Trazadone combined with a sleeping pill it worked great, whereas sperately they did not. The only side effects I got from Trazadone or any antidepressant was that they make me groggy and zombie like for the majority of the day. I was told this side effect wears off as the day goes on, and wears off completely after a few weeks- But for me it certainly did not.

I've been having sweats, nightsweats, and chills for 22 years now and so could not put any of this down to trazedone.

It was only helping a litle with sleep and sometimes when it had started to take effect I would feel very unwell.

Doc put me on ambien as well, sleep improved but I still had a glued brain.

Specialist I saw thought I should stop the trazedone, it clearly wasn't helping the sleep enough and making the consequences of my cognitive impairment even more difficult to live with.

Turned out he was right, it just slowed my brain down in the wrong way.

This specialist was useless over everything else but at least he spotted what my brain was by then unable to recognise.

Now I use ambien with valerian root (high doses) and though not perfect I am having some sleep but feel I haven't reached stage 4 yet.

Incidently I frequently get that freezing sensation when my body feels as though it is shutting down. Shiver and the circulation in my limbs really deteriorates. Haven't found a way of dealing with this yet, but perhaps the sedating effect of trazedone is giving you similar problems.

    Cheers

I take both Trazadone and Zoloft. My Dr. just changed my dosage to 75 since the 50's wernt working anymore. I can get to sleep easy but wake up around 3:30 every night. I figure he will up it to 100 soon and see how that works. I do the sweating thing also but all the time not just at night, it drives my wife crazy. Hot one minute cold the next.
The one thing I do like is that it doesnt have a lasting effect when i do get up in the morning.

I take 50 mg w/1 flexeril before bed. It makes me drowsy in about 45 minutes. I have no real trouble with it..altho I don't have nightmares from it..I have extremely real feeling dreams.
