Looks like a kookaburra what lives in Australia. When I went to Bible Camp
we used to sing a song: Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree, eating all the
gum drops he can see. Laugh, Kookaburra, Laugh, Kookaburra. Gay your
    life must be.

The camp was in Minnesota on the Mississippi river right across from the Wisconsin
site where Laura Ingalls Wilder was born. There is a museum there now.

Laura was born two years after the Civil War ended. She died when I was in High School.

    HOORAY ROCK!

    You got it!

    blue winged kookaburra

"The blue-winged kookaburra (Dacelo leachii) is a large species of kingfisher native to northern Australia and southern New Guinea.

"Measuring around 40 cm (16 in), it is slightly smaller than the more familiar laughing kookaburra." (I've never heard of the LAUGHING kookaburra!)

And I found your song on YouTube!

    :)

I always enjoy your posts, and all the info you provide in them!

Amazing how kookaburra can lead to Laura Ingalls Wilder! :) :) :)

    Hi Diane

Wow! Haven't heard that song in over half a century. Brings back happy
memories. Some verses I never heard too.

Yes, kind of a leap from an Australian bird to Laura Ingalls Wilder. And
both of them are only 6 degrees from Kevin Bacon. I suppose everything is
more or less connected if it's on the same planet.

Thanks for the fun games you post and for the musical memory.

    Rock :)
