I just wanted to post about my experiences with this anti-viral medication.

I was very sceptical of all the talk about stealth viruses, but I finally got a prescription for Valtrex about a week ago...

And what a difference a week makes! It's like my mental fog is evaporating. It's only been a little over a week now, so this post may be somewhat premature, but I doubt it.

It's been a quantum jump. I'm still not all there, but I'm a lot better than I was, and I'm a lot more hopeful.

I was sure I had some kind of brain damage and my mental deficits were documented by psychological testing ...so it's quite a turnaround.

I doubt it will be a silver bullet but I thought it was worth posting about anyhow.

For background: I have tested positive for past infection with EBV and CMV, but my bloodwork doesnt' show any current infections.

And I didn't have to go to an FFC to get the prescription. An alternative doc gave me the Rx.. but my regular PCP said he would prescribe it if I wanted it...

Oh, and I started on 2 grams a day and went up to 3 grams on the second week (at my request). I have noticed a little extra fatigue, but it seems to be fleeting.

    For What It's Worth...

Congratulations on your success with Valtrex deliarose. Im starting my second month of Valtrex, and id have to say it has helped me out also. I have a diagnosis of CFS and Chronic EBV. My infectious specialist prescribed it to try and take the EBV down, so same as your case.

I wish I got prescribed as much as you, I only take 1 gram a day, so two 500mg's. Im going to talk to my doctor about raising the dose to 2 or hopefully 3 grams. Anyway, it hasn't effected my mental fatigue to much yet, however it has helped with my energy. And im going to stay on it as long as possible. Keep us updated as you keep progressing.

    Take care,

if valganciclovir would be worth a shot given that the anti-viral thing is working.

neither my alternative doc or my PCP will prescribe it... but I think Martin Lerner in detroit does.. and I live in Illinois.

I'd be curious to know what his patients think.. but I've checked and we don't have any of his patients on teh board.

    Too bad.

I started in Nov at 1 gram and after about two weeks I got the worst sore throat of my life along with extreme fluish symptoms for three weeks. I guess I was herx so I thought that I woudl be better then a month afterwards. The bad herx went away but after 8 months at 4500 mg or 4 1/2 grams I still get my fevers evry month and fatigue. I think it helped with the fluish feeling but I still get the fevers...which is suppose to be my ebv but I think it is hormonal even though no dr. can find anything wrong in that department.

The worst thing is my EBV tiers went down 2 pts...from 7 to 5 but EBV was negative when I first went on Valtrex and now it is positive. They were treating a past infection before and now it seems to be current which makes no sense.

My FFC dr. could not explain it at my last meeting and that annoyed me and made me wonder do they know what they are doing? I had total faith in them but now I am a little concerned.

Wonderful news, so glad for you!
Do keep up the recovery and be patient, especially if you've been sick for a long time.

Jane 32, maybe the EBV is showing up now because the antiviral is pulling it out of its hiding places into the bloodstream where it can be killed.

Ask the FFC drs if that makes sense.

    There's always hope!

it makes it sound so much better!!! I think soem of the FFC drs. just aren't well versed in certain areas. He had no explanation which confused me.

How much pineapple juice should I drink? All day? I am going ot buy a juicer this week. DO I use a whole pineapple? Sorry I have no clue.

What is EBV & CMV??.... I'm a little brain dead (go figure), but haven't heard that abbreviation.

Glad it is working so well for you!! So nice when we actually see a difference!

    Hugs :)

EBV is Epstein Barr Virus, CMV Cytomeglavirus.

Jane32...if you've been on it that long and it isn't working... perhaps it just isn't working?

I read in a paper by Dr. Joseph Brewer that HHV6 or perhaps strains of HHV6 did not respond that well to Valtrex.

The paper is pretty old ...2000.. it's the one posted on his website...Don't know if he still holds to that position.

    Food for thought.

Either way, if your doc is clueless about why something isn't working for you.. perhaps you should consider changing doc?

p.s. If pineapple juice gives you heartburn, try the digestive enzymes!

just thought I'd add that :)

I've heard that although valtrex is not necessarily affective against HHV6, it is in fact effective against EBV.

I am in a flare right now- I believe very strongly that it is the EBV, even though I have many other bugs. I seem to end up with the itches during the fatigue and flulike symptoms.

are u still taking valtrex? How is it doing?

    Thanks, Kelly
