Today I had an experience that I'll NEVER forget. Due too all the pain I've been in over the past several months, while I was at school today I "fell"... Legs were hurting so bad I was having spasms. After class I immediately called my Rheum, and was seen. He gave me some news that I was totally "devestated". He told me that I also have cosackie virus and it's also adding more problems along with the fibro, and he's referred me too the (CDC) Centers for Disese Control Specialsit. I'm so scared & totally depressed. I haven't been able to discuss with my husband whats going on because I fully don't know myself?
As for a cane, the doctor GAVE ME a nice shinny black cane to use. I'm 41 yrs old & NEVER thought I would need a cane at this age. However, if it's going too help, I shall get use too it. I'm in alot of pain & must close, but shall keep the group informed on what else occurs.
    Have A Great Weekend Everyone!

I figured it was better than falling all the time.
I still fall, because I have Trigger Points in the SCM' muscle group and they cause me to lose blance when I look down.

I use it to walk to the bus, the store, and for my Morning walks in the mobile park where I live.

I'm looking for a Red scooter tho, with all the walking I have been doing, I have caused a major Flare n my poor body, the feet really hurt.

I asked my Dr. about getting a scooter, and he said if I wanted to buy on ok, but my Insurance won't pay for it unless I'm in a bad, bad way. Don't even want to think about thoes things, lol. He does agree that I could use one and that it would help me to be mobile without all the Pain it's causing me.

How cool that your Dr. gave you a Cane. Sound's like you have a good one also, I have been Blessed with 2 Great Doctor's who work with me, not against me, and have a pretty good understanding of what we go through.

Are you the person who also lives in So.Ca? What part are you from, we have quite a few on the board I see by your other post.

Hope you have a Sunshine day, lol (darn Marine layer)
    Sincerely

Hi Sharon I live in Harbor City. Also a scooter will be cool. Somedays I wish I had one the way I've been feeling lately. It's now 1:04am & I can't sleep, I took 2 vicodins & it hasn't done a thing, but hopefully after catching up on reading email hopefully I will drift off soon. The pain is keeping me awake. Have A Good Weekend!

    Hi blue
I am 32 and have a cane which sometimes I need and sometimes I dont..well, no I do need it all teh time, but if I tell myself different then it helps my little grey brain cells to accept it. Am taking some advice from an earlier posting, and going to decorate it with feathers and 'goth'chains to trendify it...and embarrass 14 year old daughter hehe
    ((((hugs)))))
You got yourself seen to quickly so I hope you can get it all sorted out as quickly....good luck

It's not good for you to get stressed over an cane. It's for you to help you from getting hurt. I know your only 41 but I had in my late 20's an time when I too had to use an cane and I fell a lot at the time. It seemed that my legs just buckled from under me and the next thing I was sitting on the floor or ground. It was embassassing in public. I used the cane and tried acupuncture and helped me very much - for years I went without the cane.

Then, about 7 or 8 years ago I started falling again , first I had the cane, much more falling - had to use an walker, and then the worse for me at the time the wheelchair came and my doctor at the time gave me no choice. He seen me go from the cane to the wheelchair due to the intense pain and falling - all within 2 months. Therapy didn't help to stop the falling and I couldn't afford the acupuncture that time. I was your age the second time but grateful that I had to use them for at least I wasn't falling and hurting myself like I had been doing.

Cheer up and think of it as an good thing for you and don't get scared and depressed. Keep your spirits up.

Harbor City isn't that far from me, I live in Paramount, one block from Long Beach city limit, but I still say L.B.

I think that using your cane will help you to stay on your feet, mine does.
The problem with the cane is I have to use it with my left arm, my RightRotatorCuff has been damaged, badly and I can't use it for support.
I also can't use a wheelchair that I have wheel myself because of the arm problem.

I have been looking in the Pennysaver for Electric scooter's, you can find them fairly reasonable and the Hubby can work on them, so that's a plus.

When do you go to CDC? Do you teach or are you taking classes?
I have a hard time now with school, LBCC because I can't remember what I read, so I have to have someone help me and that's just as hard sometime's.
Going back in the Spring Semester tho, my Health has improved enough I hope to get through a Computer calss at least.

    Good Luck and God Bless,

I am 42 and have been using a cane for about a month now due to my knee, now on crutches after surgery. I hate it too. It is throwing off my back and it hurts too. Just had cspine fusion in dec of '01 and my back is not liking the cane bit at all.

As far as cocksackie virus-have had it too, didi day care for years and it is real common among day care centers and homes. ususally adults do nto get it, but as a fibromite I did. I remember it taking about a month to get back to par. It is viral and there is really nothing they can do for it but let it ride it's course. Rest when you can and take good care of yourself and this too shall pass.

Thanks everyone for your "support". I'm using my cane & yes I was feeling kinda bad about it, more so embarassed but I know it's for my health & safety. Also I wanted to know more about coxsackie virus b. My rheum has referred me to see an Infectious Disease specialist. He told me that I need to be taking an antibiotic, but this is all so confusing too me. I don't work I only attend LA Harbor College 2 days @ week, and I'm obsessive-compulsive when it comes to cleaning. Another thing is when I called to make the appt to see the specialist the 1st avaialable appt isn't for one month. This doesn't make sense too me that if I have this virus why isn't my rheum able to treat it???
If anyone could shed some clarity on this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again for your help & support.

    Sincerely,
