I have a question that I've been wondering about for a few days now.

In most CFS literature, it states that the post-exertional malaise that CFS sufferers have usually begins 24-48 hours after exertion.

Can anybody advise why there should be this delay? I have yet to read any explanation for it.

PS Am asking this ? on several CFS boards so, yes, you may have seen this ? before:)

It is part of the mystery of CFS. No one knows. Maybe someone has a theory though.

I would question the CFS literature.
My "post-exertional malaise" pretty much begins right away!

Good question, Ruth! I usually feel tired immediately following activity, but I know I've really overdone it when it hits me hard almost exactly 24 hours later. I've often wondered why this happens after a period of time, too. Yet another thing about this DD that doesn't seem to make sense. At least it provides amusement for my family, who think this is one of my most bizarre symptoms.
