This post may be a bit lengthy but I hope it will help someone. I am at the waiting for a hearing stage of my disability. Have been denied twice. The man I wrote this to got back with me this morning and may be able to help me. SS is totally backlogged and looks at the homeless and life threatening cases first. But, with the help of the right person your case can be moved along quicker and I was even told the judge may just approve in your favor without a hearing. For all of those struggling with this please don't give up and fight, fight, fight. I sent this to him in an e-mail and then also in hard copy with a form he had me sign to allow him to look at my case.

Dear Mr. *****: (Constituent Services Specialist with the Congressman's Office)

Thank you for your prompt response to my letter concerning my Social Security Disability.

I will try to give you a brief history and description of my situation.

In January of 2003, I took classes to become certified through the state as a Nurse’s Assistant. I have always loved working and volunteering with the elderly and had found my niche in life. I was working for a Private Home Health Care Agency and my primary patient was a Gentleman with End-Stages Alzheimer Disease. I had been with the family for approximately a year working 4 hours a day, 5 days a week. I started noticing extreme pain in my lower back and tailbone. I would come home completely exhausted feeling like I had a bad flu virus or something. I made an appointment with a Chiropractor and received a couple of treatments. I thought this would help and I could continue as normal. After no relief from treatments, he ordered x-rays of my back. After he reviewed the x-rays, he said my back was a total mess due to Osteoarthritis and Degenerative Disc Disease and he could not help me. At this time I started seeing my Family Doctor who suspected a soft tissue disease and Myofascial Pain Syndrome, Fibromyalgia and Coccyndia on top of the other diagnosis mentioned above. I went through MRI’s, Blood tests and test after test. At this point my daily pain and exhaustion made it impossible for me to continue working. I had already become totally unreliable and had to miss days due to my pain and exhaustion. I continued going to the Doctor and was referred to a Rhuematologist who specializes in my Conditions. My Primary Physician had prescribed all different kinds of pain medications. I must have tried 6-8 different ones until we found something I could tolerate. The Rhuematologist started me on a Morphine treatment that is time released so I don’t have to take so much of the other narcotic pain medications. I continue to see him once a month.

I have always been able to work, I am an educated 40 year old white female. I have always found much satisfaction in volunteer work and helping others. Since all of this started I find that I need the help now. I would have never imagined I would be in this position. As a very athletic, active person to becoming an invalid. The most basic activities of daily living are a major chore for me now and I live in constant pain even with the medications I take. My favorite things to do are no longer possible. This has all been a major adjustment for me and very depressing.

I realize Social Security has to go through their processes because of fraud and less than honest people. But, I am not one of those people. My medical records show that this is all very real and true. Being the kind of person I am, if there was anything at all I could do to earn an income, I would be doing it. Unfortunately, I am not able. As I said before, the most basic things, (cooking a meal, bathing, taking care of household chores, etc.) can put me in bed.

All of this has become very stressful for both me and my husband. He has had to take full responsibility of our income. Due to the cost of my medications and all of the medical bills, we barely get by and are very behind. I may be looking at bankruptcy if there was a way to not damage his credit. The dreams we had of buying the farmhouse we live in and renovating have been set aside. We are very honest, frugal people who are watching our dreams fade away due to my illnesses. I have to borrow from my 82 year old Grandmother to get my medications some months. This is just not right.

I am just asking for help from somewhere that this process can be speeded up and found favorable for me. It has become an emergency situation for me financially. If there was anything I could do to earn my own way, I would already be doing it. It would be much less stressful than this whole process.

Thanking You in advance for your help and consideration.

    Sounds good to me.

Frankly, I had the MRI's the sleep labs, the EMG's and allkinds of hitech tests, including a PET Scan in my records and had been a highly paid medical professional with a Master's Degree prior to becoming disabled.

Got it on the first try.

However, a friend of mine had become destitute, he with diabetes and she developed pancreatitis due to a contaminant in one of the herbal supplements she took.

I wrote a letter for them to their representative, indicating that he needed to see a particular type of specialist, they got Medicare to do it, he saw the specialist two weeks later, and the specialist said on the spot that he was completely disabled.

It really speeded up the process.

Just having a horrible day and glad it is almost over. I will start anew tomorrow and hope for better. Just so sick of this every day struggle and we got more bad financial news today. Don't know what we are going to do. The man told me to call if anything changed for me (physically, emotionally, financially). I am tired of trying to prove myself and waiting and waiting. I just want to get some groceries and my meds!!
    Sorry Just Venting

    Prayers for all of us.

I posted this a few days ago and just wondered what anyone thought of it.

Good for you for getting rid of the boyfriend. We are such sensitive people and some just do not understand just how special we are. So glad to hear you have your daughter close by. My mom and I are real close too but she lives in AZ. She will be coming here to IL. next week for a visit and I can't wait. I spend most of my time pretty isolated and alone. Just my hubby and my animals. Gets kinda lonely. But, I like to come here when I can and meet nice folks like yourself. I also like to sew and I make handmade teddy bears out of different kinds of fabric. Some are just unique quality fabrics and some are heirloom. It really helps me to feel usefull. Now if I can just sell one.

Thanks for writing. Take Care, Lil
