Hi, hope everyone is doing well.

Since October, 2005, when my Doc found a high white cell count in the 14 thousands, I have been having recurrent infections with high white cells.

When he found the white cell count in October, he prescribed antibiotics. I was feeling chilled and weak, that is all.

    Did not get better.

Doc had me go back about 6 days after antibiotic treatment and WBC dropped, but still a little high.

A few weeks later, went to ER because while trying to Christmas shop, I got extreme pains in lower back that spread across to sides and felt like I was going to pass out.

ER Doc told me it was just a virus. WBC was in the 11 thousands then.

Then yet a few weeks later, another trip to the Doc. This time I had STREP THROAT!!! No CBC done. Another round of antibiotics.

A few weeks later, went to OBGYN, begged him for help because I was still not feeling good. Did a CBC and found my WBC to be in the 19 thousands!!!! NOT GOOD!! Gave me another round of antibiotics.

He referred me to an Oncologist/Hematologist while still on antibiotics, WBC went down to normal range in 9 thousands.

On February 17th, I had surgery for my endometriosis, WBC was still in normal range, but ALMOST high, in the 10 thousands.

After the surgery, I felt like I was getting a bladder infection, so OBGYN did a urine sample. Protein was 2+ with dipstick. I have had trace protein in urine before.
    Another round of antibiotics.

He sent me for a 24 urine test (protein and creatine) which came back fine.

Went back to my regular DOC, took me off the antibiotcs and gave me a round of steroids. YUCK!!!!

Back to the hematologist, SCARED ME TO DEATH, he wanted to do a bone marrow biopsy and PET scan to see if I had CANCER. I had cancer 13 years ago.

Went back yesterday to get the results. NO leukemia, lymphomas, the PET Scan revealed NO CANCER. I was so relieved, I even cried.

The pet scan picked up one thing, a lymph node under my neck that was infected, but not cancerous. YET another round of antibiotics, except this time clindamycin 300 mg. 3 times a day for 7 days. This antibiotic is only prescribed for serious bacterial infections. Got me a little worried.

Does anyone go thru similar situations like this??? High WBC and all of the other stuff I listed above??

I know there are a lot of people in the medical field that reside here, hope that someone can help me!!

    Sorry for the long posting.

    Love and prayers,
    Brenda

    Hi Brenda,

Years ago I had similar problems including periodic swelling of the lymph nodes in my neck that would literally get to be size of a golf ball. I bounced around looking for the cause and finally ended up taking long term combination antibiotics for Chlamydia Pneumonia. It took a while but I was well for many years after that and was able to do some extraordinary things.

More recently I realized this had snuck up on me and am doing the same treatment again. After 3 months I am pretty much my old self. However this is not for the faint of heart. You will feel worse for a period before getting better and typically treatment takes from 6-24 months. My recent case was not as bad but the first time around was all of two years.

So anyway this works but requires some real resolve and commitment and if you have reached that point it is worth considering. There is a site that has a lot of information and support from others that have gone through this or are going through this treatment at --

    Good luck,

    Paul

Isn't is amazing what we all have to go through.

I honestly do not know how everyone does it!!

I know that there are a lot of people here that have panic/anxiety too, and it is horrible to have Panic Attacks. Doc had to up my meds 4 TIMES because of this last ordeal with the cancer doctor.

I am SO AFRAID OF DYING!!

You seem so calm about your test. I would just be a nervous wreck because of my anxiety.

I wish I could learn how to deal with things better.

I wanted to let you know that I hope everything turns out OK with your scan. I am sure that you are all right, if it was something urgent, they would not be waiting so long.

    Nice talking with you again,
    Love and prayers,
    Brenda

    Brenda:
I am so sorry you went through all of that and am glad they found no new cancer.

What I found interesting was the clindamycin. I was just put on it for infected lymph nodes. This is just the first line of therapy, but I did not know it was for 'serious bacterial infections'. Thank you for the info.

I would LOVE to hear from you more. You are the first person on this site (that I can find) that has had infected/inflammed lymph nodes besides myself.

How were your lymph nodes diagnosed as being inflammed/infected? The condition is called lymphadenitis (which means the lymph node itself is infected/inflammed. It is unlike swollen lymph nodes that hold WBCs to fight off infection in your body.

Lymphadenitis can be serious. That is why I have been asking for help from anybody!!

Where are your infected lymph nodes? Are they sore or swollen large. I might be able to guide you in the right direction of what may be causing it.

The KEY is to find the underlying infection that caused the lymphadenitis to get rid of the problem, it is very important.

Do you have chronic infections with high WBCs?

Sorry for so many questions, I just found someone I can relate too.

Yes, my doc put me on clyndamician for 2 weeks and told me to go to the dentist. I did and nothing abnormal was found. Next step ENT Specialist to look into my throat.

I hope you are able to see this and write me back!!

2 heads are better than one.

    Love and prayers,
    Brenda
