From time to time, we have someone experiencing domestic abuse on this board. This week I heard a radio program about domestic violence among Christians. The guest speakers were Brenda Branson and Paula Silva, authors of the book Violence Among Us: Ministry to Families in Crisis.

They are also the founders of Focus Ministries, Inc. with a website at www.focusministries1.org/ . They can refer you to a counselor in your area or, if none is available, counsel you themselves. The website has a variety of information for people who are suffering abuse, however you should not go there on a computer which your abuser may be monitoring! (Don’t make calls concerning abuse from a cell phone, either.)

Focus Ministries also provides training in dealing with domestic abuse for pastors and churches.

    A few statistics:
    * One in every four women experiences family violence.
    * On average, a woman is battered in the United States by a partner every twelve to fifteen seconds!
    * Over 30% (some estimate over 50%) of all murders of women in America are committed by intimate partners.
*50-70% of men who abuse their partners also abuse children in the home.[This Message was Edited on 11/04/2007]
