I'm looking for a support group in New York City. I have not sought support yet as I was diagnosed only about 6 or 7 months ago, but now I really need something, I feel like I am losing my mind and that no one, not even my boyfriend, understands how sick I am and how helpless I feel. I have no choice but to keep working and living my life (I am a musician) but I am so sick all of the time and I feel so isolated and frustrated.

I don't know of a support group in NYC but I live real close , I'm in NJ about 20 minutes away from the city between Staten Island and Jersey City . If you know the name of my small town. And I would be glad to hear from you.
I was just diagnosed about 6 months ago too.

Hi Lilliejayne, welcome to the board. Sorry you have this illness, and hope you find a support group soon. If you go to the 'Home' page, there is a link there for suport groups in all areas.

Again, welcome to the board, and hope we hear from you often.

    Shalom, Shirl

Just wanted to say hi and welcome. I like to support musicians when I can! My two sons are musicians, in fact there will be a practice here today. I am originally from NY, now live in NW NJ.

I really understand what your going through as far as not having others understand your illness. It really hurts especially from the ones we love and expect the most support from. I have had FMS/CFS for about 18 years, and my family and friends still don't comprehend although I think they really try.

Try getting some printed medical information for your boyfriend to read, sometimes it helps when they have things explained by someone else.

Sorry I can't tell you where a support group is, but I'm sure in NYC there is one near you. Try calling your local hospital or Arthritis Assoc. for a referral.
In the meantime, we're always here to listen and talk.

    Love, Laurie

Lillyjayne, sorry you're feeling so poorly. In your second e-mail you ask if anyone knows of doctors in NYC. If your symptoms tend toward muscle and/or connective tissue pain, a good fibromyalgia specialist is Bruce Solitar, M.D., on East 34th St. He has a good personality and is very caring and knows a lot about fibromyalgia. A CFS specialist is Susan Levine, but the waits in her office are very long and the time she spends with each patient is very short. Nevertheless, you may find it worth while to try her.
