Im a 32 year old female, and I was diagnosed w/Mitral Valve Prolapse, & a heart murmur when I was 14 years old. I have had severe chest pain all of my life, and I have been told that I must live with it...so I do.
Sometimes the pain is so severe that I go to the emergency room to get checked out, where they always do an ekg and give me a nitro. and its always the same thing...go home, and live with it.
Lately..the pain has been lasting for 24hrs. or more at a time, and sometimes it radiates down my left arm. And quite frankly, it scares the hell out of me.
I am a mother of 3 young children, and I am afraid I am going to die.
I do not understand why I have to live wth this pain all of the time.
Does anyone else have this problem, and if so what are you doing to help overcome it?
I should also mention that at my last visit to the ER, the Dr. there told me that he saw no sign of MVP or a murmur...

my doctor yesterday about chest pain. It scared the living daylights out of me. He did EKG and found all is normal. Says it is the inflammation of my chest wall. Boy does this hurt. It woke me out of my sleep and put me into a sweat. Everyone is different, so if in doubt I would talk to your doc again. It isn't something to mess around with.

have those horrible chest pains. I have had them for about 8 years now non-stop. Not only do I suffer from that but the pain has now hit my lower rib cage(to the left and right of my stomach). I, like you have been to many er rooms, have had test after test with no results. I notice weather plays a big role, stress even more and pms. Right now my lower ribcage is absolutely killing me. I wake up with that damm gnawing pain, suffer all day long and go to sleep the same way. I have 2 young children as well and it's tough. If you want to ask any other questions, feel free to post back.
    Hope your feeling better soon,
    Tes

Yes, yes, get a heart specialist if you don't already have one and if you do consider seeing another one.

    Suzanne,
I too had horrible chest pains. I went to my regular doctor and he said it could be a form of pluresy. Then I went to my specialist and he said it might be a form of arthritis OR inflamation in my chest wall. I asked him what can be done because I can't live with that...I am sure you know what I mean. Well he said I could do some site injections at the tips of your ribs. (between the boobs!) He told me it isn't pleasant but he could do it. Well I figured it couldn't be as bad as what I had been living with. Well he injected me 8 times...four on each side. It wasn't great but it wasn't horrible either. By two days later I was a new person!!! I wondered at that time HOW did I live with all that pain! Well I was sure in pain when the bill came it was $900! Thankfully it worked but sheesh if it wouldn't have I don't know what I would have done! So to recap...yes people have this...yes you can treat it (if it is like what I had) and yes your purse will be lighter but who cares...I have no regrets! Does it hurt when you take a deeper breath? Mine did... so if yours is like mine it might possibly be helped! Hang in there girl...There IS hope!

I remember one ER Dr. mentioning the Arthritis thing in my chest. But, I do not have medical insurance that covers a visit like that. I do have a cardiologist, but visits are very rare, because I cannot afford him.
yes...I do have a difficult time breathing when I experience this pain. Sometimes it is a dull aching pain that comes and goes for hours at a time. It does take my breath away, and I CANNOT catch my breath until it's over.
AND sometimes its a sharp peircing pain, and makes my heart flutter. And it radiates down my arm to the very tips of my fingers. It wakes me up nights, and it limits my daily activities.
I cannot even find a dentist that will do my dental work for fear of something happening. So...Im either going to die from this pain, or a severe toothache. OR, overdosing on tylenol.
Its very frustrating. I have lived with this for my whole life, and I never complain aloud to anyone. No reason too..
And the Dr.'s treat me as if its "no big deal".
Anyway, thankyou all for your suggestions.

That is what I have as well as fm and cfs and other things. Any way the pain you describe sounds just like it and their really is nothing that can be done for it. I am 29 and a mother of 5 and I know what you must feel when you feel like that. I swear the only thing that keeps me going from day to day is GOD and my Children. Just stay strong and pray for god to help you be stong every day for your family..Costo causes severe chest pain as well tightness and sometimes little lumps or masses in and around the rib cage area...hope this helps and I am sure someone will come around that can lead you in the right direction that will give you a little more info on costo and how to spell it right...Shannon

I have heard that this problem hits the chest wall and causes breathing problems, which I have had for about 8 years now.(primary fms symptom). I was wondering if anyone feels it in the lower ribcage as well. I have numerous tests done in that area and everything is normal.(my liver, gallbladder, stomach etc.) I feel that when it acts up in my lower ribcage around the stomach, the pain is more severe than when it affects my chest. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
    Keep smilin and take care
