I have been dealing with neck/shoulder pain since last January. I have been told it is osteoarthritis, degenerative disc disease, and "it's just your fibro".

I have been given arthritis meds, pain meds, anti-inflammatory meds. So far nothing has helped.

It hurts all the time, but it hurts particularly worse when I turn my head to the right, like something is grabbing and pulling.

I am so tired of suffering. Has anybody had this type of pain? Has anything given you any relief? I need help!

    God bless,

Your symptoms may be a result of cervical(neck) dystonia.
It's a neurological condition that is not uncommon in PWME/CFSers and possibly those with FMS.

Coming down with it may be an extension of the brain dysfunction central in these diagnosis. Going to a good neurologist-movement disorder specialist should help rule out or secure this new diagnosis in you.

I also have the popping in my neck when I move it. I am now on vicodin 10-325, soma350, lyrica.

I also have degenerative disc disease, fibro, and arthritis, neuropathy, diabetes, heart problems
well arrithmia and my heart has aged more than what it should have, high blood pressure, depression, high heart rate, and chronic kidney stones and kidney infections. I think that is all.

I think you should really talk to you dr about something for the pain, maybe you need muscle relaxers?

    Good luck Pam

Thanks for your replies. I forgot to mention that I have also been on muscle relaxers (flexeril). I knew there was something I was forgetting which has not helped either.

I, too, have neuropathy, high heart rate, and chronic kidney problems.

I am considering having the cortisone injections in my neck, but I am afraid. Has anyone had this done?

    Thanks everyone,

Hi, i am new to this forum, but so glad i found it! I too have severe pain in the neck/shoulder area. About 12 years ago was the start of symptoms (due to fibro and chronic cervical strain probably caused by a bad car accident when i was a teen) My lifesaver was elavil. only 50 mg at nite and i slept thru the nite ( you probably no how much better u feel when u do!) and daily pain was reduced so much, i only had occasional pain meds for flare ups and overdoing it. Has anyone prescribed for you?
Unfortunately i am back in the cycle again. Another car accident and i have had shoulder surgery,p/t, 3 cervical epidurals, trigger point pain injectons etc. for the past 2 years.
Just started lyrica yesteday. Sort of foggy and dizzy...hopin for a miracle again pain seems tocome from nerve damage,.... maybe u too? Good luck. I know how u stinks.

Thanks again for your responses. I am feeling a bit better today. I decided to stop with the heating pad and try ice and see if that works. It seems to be helping.

I also bought some blu-emu cream to try. I used it last night, and I am thinking that too may be beneficial.

I have been on elavil in the past but had to discontinue using it because of the dryness it caused in my mouth which in turn led to dental problems. I wish I could still take it. It was wonderful.

Steenlynn, I'm sorry you are back in that cycle again. I wish we could all just be pain free!

    Thanks again everyone,

I'm feeling the same thing right now. I had a bone scan a few years ago that showed some arthritis developing in my neck. When I move it from side to side (that's when I can) there's a horrible grinding noise.

I also had an accident last winter when ice & snow from a roof fell on my head and shoulder. That certainly didn't help things as I have a tear now in my right shoulder and I suffered a concussion. They think that I may also have a pinched nerve as a results.

If only they could give us something that provides more than just barely managing with the pain. I use my heating pad all the time on my shoulder and neck. It helps a little. If you can stand cold, ice may be able to help a little too. I have problems with anything cold so I can't try that. I've also tried the pain sprays as well, not too successfully and man...they're smelly!

I sure hope you get a bit of relief soon.

    Thinking of you,
