Simpsons – Robert Smith paper and treatment with retrovirals

Robert Smith today (Sep 2) produced a paper with details of how the retroviral drug work with HIV and XMRV so far in his research. [“Susceptibility of the human retrovirus XMRV to antiretroviral inhibitors” - http://www.retrovirology.com/content/7/1/70]

    Regarding MLVs and XMRV:

    - What is your understanding in the area of treatment following this paper and the others?

    - How do you think the link with MS, fibromyalgia, and prostate cancer will pan out?

    - What do you think the link is with the high level of vaccination patients getting ill having had the Hep B vaccination?

    - How do you think the infection is transmitted?

    Reply:

I think that Dr. Smith is in a better position to comment on his own studies. As I responded to another question, I feel that retroviruses may play a role in these disease, but the role may be more indirect in terms of signs and symptoms. Currently we have no clear idea of the relationship between these new retroviruses and other infections or how they are transmitted. All of this will ultimately be worked out in time.
