So mad at my fat it will not go away-help-

    Tell me has anyone had this happen? I have been on a diet for 30 days with little results. I have been doing adkins with 20 or less carbs. I have not cheated and I have been spilling ketons for 3 weeks. I have only lost 8lbs so far.
    I did this diet befor and lost 25 lbs easy. I even cheated last time. I have been eating atleast 65% less than I normaly eat. I'm so tierd of lettuce and water. I have had only water and 3 diet drinks all this time. No juice, milk,kool-aid or pop at all. My belly will measure at 34 inches when I get up and as big as 39 at bed time. Do you think it might be water? I can't tell you how flustered I am.

    You are losing 2 lbs. per week (8 lbs. lost in a month). I did Weight Watchers and that is about how you should be losing the weight. Remember, we didn't put the weight on overnight, so it's going to take time to get it off.

    Could your body be in the "starvation-mode?" Doesn't sound like you are consuming enough calories (lettuce, water and diet drinks). The fluids may be the cause of the dramatic inch gain in the evening.

    I'm no professional by any means and I'm not familiar with Atkins Diet - just with Weight Watchers from '97 - and yeah, I still battle the bulge...got really bad after steroid treatments and current meds.

    Don't lose heart. Remember, the older we get the harder it is to shed the weight. Ahhh...whatta life! :<)

    always just did the calorie thing. But it sounds like you are losing a healthy amount. It sounds like you are having bloating and lettuce and other vegetables can cause that if you aren't used to a lot of it. I think if you stick with it you will do fine. You might try to increase your exercise a little, which I know is so hard with these dd's without over doing it.

    But even a little more walking morning and afternoon might help. I wish you all the luck! I've lost more than most people have had in my life. I keep it off for a couple of years and then I either start eating again or gradually do and there it is again..WHY is everything such a difficulty!? Hang in there and keep us posted. Bambi

    if maybe I was not eating enough but I so want to drop the lbs. I don't just eat lettuces it just feels like it. I have chicken with it ect. I eat two times a day, a healthy salad for lunch with a little dressing. Then for dinner I eat lean meat and low carb veg. I drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day. I only had the 3 diet drinks because I ran out of bottled water. I hate the deit stuff. I haven't went over 20 carbs on one of the days. You may be right about eating to little though. I was gaining 1lb a week befor I went on the diet. I got up to 178 lbs, then I went down to 168. I got on the scale this morn. and it read 170. I know I can't be gaining with what I am eating.
    I think my body is all messed up.

    I had the same problem of not being able to lose weight no matter what I tried. For me though, it turned out to be a medical condition. Just this past August I was dx'd with Metabolic X Syndrome, which is an over production of insulin in the body that goes directly to the liver which then turns it into fat tissue. No matter how much dieting or exercise; the weight will never go away.

    An 'ideal' range for insulin my doctor says is around 20. Back in August my insulin was at 383. Since then I've been taking Metformin, and my insulin as of this month is down to 192. As well, I've also lost just under 30 lbs without having to make ANY adjustments to what I eat, or how much exercise I can pull off.

    As far as the size of my stomach, there was always about a 3 inch fluctuation. Pants that fit on Monday and Wednesday didn't always fit on Tuesday! For me it's a part of Met-X Syndrome, and it has gone away since I started taking the Metformin.

    Even if your doctor says your blood sugars are fine, ask them to check your insulin levels specifically. My sugars have always been perfect, but because my doctors only ever tested for diabetes; I had to gain 120 lbs in less then a year for them to start realizing that something was REALLY wrong.

    Goodluck, and don't get hung up on the weight! Stress isn't good for us, period!

    I watch my carbs when I eat & so far I am down 33 lbs. I loose weight strange - nothing for a week and all of a sudden 5 lb are gone. You may not be eating enough. I always find that I do not loose if I do not eat enough - it seems backward.

    I wish you luck - I know you will reach your goals.

    You didnt mention what meds your on. I have never had weight problems until I was put on zoloft and anitdepressant. Then I packed on the pounds. I couldnt lose them. Then I went off that med lost the weight. I also saw a doctor who specialises in bio identical hormones. I will be 50 in Feb. It balanced out my hormones and has helped me to keep the weight off. I also use a tredmill when Im not in too much pain or tired. Its take work to do that part but I try my best.

    You also didn't mention whether you are doing any sort of exercise or activity.

    Also, our body weight fluctuates throughout the day, so weighing one thing when you get up and another before bed is totally normal. However, the big change in inches around your waist sounds like maybe something in your diet is causing a lot of bloating.

    I'm actually against the idea of any no carb diets, but I don't want to sound preachy!! :)

    Our bodies need carbs. Overload of carbs is really bad, but carbs in moderation are part of a very healthy diet. Plus, 99% of people I've known who have lost weight on those diets have gained it all back, plus some when they go off the diet. Those diets cannot be used long term and therefore aren't really a good method for permanent weight loss and maintenance. A program like Weight Watchers that teaches a balanced diet and portion control is going to be much better in the long run.

    However, 8 pounds in one month is in the perfectly health weight loss range and is a wonderful success!!

    Maybe eating more often as someone else suggested so that you make sure your body doesn't go into starvation mode and start using your muscle tissue, etc. for energy might really help to increase the pounds you drop.

    I think you should be happy with the pounds you've lost so far. I know what its like! My problem is I love to eat. I have success with South Beach, but I always gain it back. Not to mention, it takes me twice as long to lose it as it does to gain it back! I'm going to hit that 180 mark soon, and really need to lose about 40. I'm going to consult my Dr. to see if he has any hints for me. Hang in there!
