I will be seeing a specialist soon and I am looking into muscle relaxers before I meet with him. I know for a fact that he presribes Zanaflex. I have tried Zanaflex before (8 mg at bedtime) and it knocked me out. But it didnt keep me asleep, I still woke up in pain. But atleast it works better for me than Flexeril or Skelaxin.

My question is, for those of you who have ttied Zanaflex and Soma, which one worked better for you or which one did you prefer? I just need one for before bed. I would also appreciate input from those of you who have just been on one or the other also. I would like to hear your experiences with them. And also what dose you take and how often you take it.

I would like to mention before hand that I tend to have a high tolerance to medications like this, such as muscle relaxers and narcotics. I really wish that it wasnt this way, but unfortunatly it is. I also wanted to mention that Flexerial and Skelaxin did not work for me at all. I have also tried Benzo's as a muscle relaxer and those have not worked either. I use them for anxiety though and they work just fine for that.

I would appreciate anyones input on their expeirences with thise medications. Thank you to everyone in advance!

I take Zanaflex for muscle pain. But I also take Ambien for sleep. Maybe you could stick with the Zanaflex and ask the doctor for something for sleep. That is, if you don't work, or can afford to take Zanaflex during the day when you hurt. I can't drive after I take it. It does knock you out. I have migraines too, though, and I find that when I'm in a lot of pain during the day and am having a migraine plus fibro flare-up, I take Zanaflex and can at least sleep for a while and wake up not hurting so much. It is a new muscle relaxer - newer than Soma. For me, Soma helped for the first few weeks and then didn't. But I don't work - I'm disabled. So I can take it during the day. Hope this helps. Pat

A friend mailed me some years ago and it worked for me well, but my family doc at the time wouldn't give it to me. I tried Flexeril and all that did was make me sleepy.

I use Xanax to relax my muscles now. I take .5 mg. 3 x a day. Works for me and has since 1997. Sorry those meds like Xanax haven't worked for you.

Sorry I can't remember the dose of Soma, but I took 1/2 of one and 1/2 of a Percocet my friend sent to me and I was pain free for about 8 hours.

Now-a-days we wouldn't send meds like that in the mail. I'm sure we'd be caught. lol But back then we didn't know any different.

Good luck and hope you will feel better.

I haven't tried the Zanaflex, so I couldn't say which would be the strongest for you, since you have a tolerance to Med.s

I do too, Flexeril, made me jumpy, and I felt tired all day.

With the Soma, I don't I may get drozy for an hour, in the am, but after that, and a cup of coffee, and I have less Muscle pain.
My calfs lately feel like rocks, untill I take my Soma.

I take 4 a day, 3 during the day, and one at night

Or I can 1/4 one of them and take a whole 350mg, along with the 1/4, 3x's a day, When I am really having a lot of Muscle spasm's. Then that night, I take my Xanax, nothing keeps me asleep for more than 3 hours, so this combo, helps me the most.

I also use Moist Heat on the area's that hurt the most, like my low back, or wrapped around my leg when the calfs hurt.

I also use a massager, and go lightly over the spot where the muscle is cramping.
I like to use the MSM lotion, it's great for Scars too.

Hope your Dr. can help you, by giving you the Med, you Feel will help you the most.
