Do any of you suffer with the tight, achy shoulders and it's hard to turn your neck? Mine has been really bad lately. Seems to worsen with a flare.

I always have achy and stiff shoulders and neck. Always. It is so annoying....better than hard core pain but, similiar to having all your nails cut too short - it is all you can think about. I also have a consent throbbing in my elbows. Maybe you need a muscle relaxer?

our neck and shoulders tighten.Since all nerves run through the neck it creates the flare.if you can catch yourself tightening and do things to relax you can sometimes avoid the flare.Linda

know how you feel...My neck is in a constant state of STIFF and my arms are so weak and sore. What is really upsetting is that when my neck gets like this I cant drive. There is no way I can turn to see if a car is coming at a stop or intersection...can be really scary...I ususally have either below the waist pain OR above...I am afraid to say this week it has been Both!!! Hopefully just a lil stress and it will go away...Have a Happy Holiday if you can :)

I rarely have pain below the waist, and above the waist it is ALWAYS centralized in my shoulders and upper arms, as if I've been lifting weights or something (yeah, fat chance of that, lol!). When it gets really bad, my neck muscles become involved and I can't turn my head to either side, and just turning over in bed is agony. So I can sympathize, and I'm sorry you're feeling this way now!

The past two weeks my shoulders and elbows have been bad, and my entire arms (both) are involved. My muscles feel so sore its unreal, and they burn badly. It has also hurt down into my wrists and hands worse than I can remember it doing that before.

I've been trying to wrap gifts all day ... I have to wrap one or two and take a break. Right now my shoulders are absolutely on fire, and I'm not even half done with the wrapping! I'm so glad my daughter is coming home from college tomorrow ... I wrapped hers first so maybe she can wrap the rest!!! :)

Wishing you rest and a pain-free holiday!

Do you all notice that when it is like that you feel more spacey and dizzy?

Like Kat, this is where I get hit the hardest. There are days I just want to lie in bed and cry. Heat helps, ice sometimes helps, chiropractic and massage help, Vicodin helps, not much else.

There are so many tender points in the shoulder and neck area, no wonder you feel so much there! Have you tried a massage? If you can tolerate them, they can help to relax the shoulders and body, and hopefully relieve some pain. Massages work for me as long as they don't use a light touch, those drive me batty! But a good deep massage that releases trigger points or relieves tender points can have some good benefits for awhile.

Also, as you go through the day, try tensing then relaxing your shoulders. Since tender points do vary as far as how tender they are, hopefully doing things to help relax them a bit really will help you feel better.

I can't hardly even straighten my shoulders today and it just makes my eyes not work right and I feel so dizzy. The muscles right where your shoulder and neck come together are so bad and then then muscles that go up your neck which is turn makes the dizzies. I wonder if things got really stirred up from my surgery back in June because they bend your neck back to intubate you.

Oh that is where most of my pain is.

I don't know where you live, but it has been REALLy cold where I live and I think that has made it so much worse

I have found that HEAD ON, which is a rub for headaches actually helped my shoulders! (although someone here told me the ingredients aren't the greatest for you) but when you are desparate, you will try anything

I live in Toledo, Ohio and it is cold and miserable. All these fronts come together here, either from Canada or from the south and it just makes me hurt all the time. I thought I had pain when I was younger and lived in Sacramento, California when it would be winter and get foggy. That was nothing compared to this. I know what you mean. I just put some deep heat gel on my shoulders and neck because I am so stiff. I can't stand it anymore. I just don't like it because it affects my balance, I'm dizzy, I'm spacey and just generally feel like a goof-ball, LOL.

I get that at the end of my work day and especially on the drive home when I have to deal with idiotic people on the highway.

I've learned to be a better driver, meaning not an agressive driver the other day. I was trying to get onto the highway and I inched out and the guy behind me got so angry he leaned on the horn, went into the breakdown lane at a high speed and cut in in front of me. It was pretty clear at that moment that he either wanted me to hit him or to go into "road rage" mentality.

At first I started to think "road rage", but somehow (and I don't have a clue how or why) I got calm and started thinking... he doesn't know what kind of day I had (that was the day I cried all the way home), he doesn't know if I'm sick, or if I was trying to get home for an emergency, or whatever which could be so devastating. The I also thought that I don't know that about him either. Maybe he lost his job and was taking it out on me... it's almost Christmas and a hard time for most people and maybe he was feeling awful.

Believe it or not, that moment was very important to me and changed the way I drive.

Sorry, got off track, but it did have a lot to do with my shoulders and neck hurting.

They still hurt, and it didn't stop it, but it was just a "lightbulb" moment.

I agree with everyone above - stress makes it tighter. My Cymbalta helps but I find that it does not take it all away when it is bad. I use Aspercream alot. I thought there was no way it would help but it does and it is not stinky.

Hope you start to feel better.

I've had several cortizone shots in my shoulder areas. My PCP thinks stress and fibro both are the culprit. Even after I get a shot in those areas if I get stressed out the pain comes back almost instantly. My PCP says that everyone carries their stress on their shoulders. Thats why we tense up there the minute we have a worrying moment. This alone is nerve-racking but I have tried relaxing and exercizing my breathing patterns. (taking deep breathes in thru my nose and blowing them out in short puffs) I read this technique in a self help book. lol but true. I'm not skilled in this area but, I do have some expertise in stress related situations. We can't control where the fibro hits us next. We can relieve the stress factors somewhat by avoiding particular situations. I continue to need pain patches for my shoulders at times.
I hope you feel better GBHope.

I have had neackaches, stiff neck, headaches and migraines since 1987. After yrs.,the Drs. kept blaming my problem on fibromyalgia.I have it everywhere anyway. My last MRI showed that I have a ulging disc with some degeneration.I have deg. disc disease in my lwoer spine already.Nothign helps myneck ever. I do now have osteoarthritis in my shoulders now.

Yup!! Count me in.. neck, shoulders and down my spine.. horrible the last few days.. have not been able to get a grip on it this time. I know I have degenerating discs.. it's shown up on xrays and my upper gi.. maybe it's time for a specialist on that.. I know that this is getting old.. I used to have trouble with my neck and shoulders years before fibro.. the doctor said then it was symatic disfunction.. (holding so much stress in my neck and shoulders that it would cause spasms and I couldn't even turn my head to back up the car..) hope you get feeling better.. Hugs!

I know I have a candida problem and have been treating lately, but didn't take any today to give my system a chance to catch up. I keep feeling fluish and had cramping and upset stomach. Wonder if this is what die-off feels like.
