I was on eighty miligrams of methadone but was having bad side effects.
I wanted to go down on my dose as much as possible.
    like 15 miligrams
but once I got down to 64 mili grams I have lots of pain, this scares me.
anyway, the pain is tolerable even though it is scarey.

just wondering how a pain specialist will work a conversion with me, from methadone to optoids.

or if I have to, one that will keep me on the methadone, its that what they want. but through a pain clinic.

I'm not at a pain clinic now. and thats scarey as well

Unfortunately, I really think only the pain clinic you visit can answer your question.
You were/are already taking opiates, correct?... for breakthrough pain?

I think you've proven to yourself that going from 80 mgs to 15 of methadone isn't going to work - even 64 you still have pain. I've been told OVER AND OVER (tired of hearing it, but accepting it) not to expect to be totally pain free. A tolerable level is what to go for - a level in which we can function - have some sort of a life!

I'd get a referral to a pain clinic as soon as you can and see what options are available to you!

I wasn't totaly pain free at the time, but I was able to go the beach and boston. things I enjoy, I just miss that.
I will be going to a pain clinic but that's not until july, and that's a long time to wieght and not even know if I will get the proper care
its not the pain that scare's me. its the level of pain that doe's.
I never know how bad it can get, but with the methadone, at least I don't have to worry as much.
    thanks and Blessing

Why do you have to wait so long to get into a pain clinic? Is that what their waiting time is? That does seem like an awfully long time to wait!
Did you doctor refer you there? Do you know anything about the facility to give you some comfort? how they treat, what they use for treatment etc.?

I hope you can take at least the dose of methadone that gives you some relief and not make you feel terrible with side effects.

I know how terrible it is to miss being able to do the simple things in life and to be able to enjoy them.

I know that you probably weren't pain free - I don't if any of us are for very long. I think we get so used to how we feel with a constant level of pain that it becomes our norm. (or at least that's how I feel)

I'm sorry too that you are scared. I guess I've been what I would call 'scared' sometimes that I can hurt so much, can't find relief even with meds, and also not have something else terribly wrong. For a long time I swore I must have bone cancer or something that's how bad my legs hurt!
Anyway - thinking of you and hoping you find some level of relief so you can enjoy those days on the beach!!! =)

I did go back to the higher dose of the methadone that I was on but still in pain.
but now I have more side effects with the methdaone, so I don't know if I should just go back to the lower dose,
I have nothing for breakthrough pain.

last night I was in a lot of pain

my legs hurt too, when I lay on my side my knee's can't touch, I have to put a blanket between them.

the back of my skull, arms, legs, neck and back were hurting so bad so I took a soma, and two tylenol, well that knock me out.

I mean out cold, so I quess I can't do that with the methdadone, I'm told I can but for some reason I just knock out.

I really just want to go back to my old medication regimen, I was doing so good.

but now I have to go to the clinic every day, its an hour out of my day, long drive.

and I can't go to the cape like I want to, or Maine. oh well, just rambling and complaining.
I should be happy with what I can do and that I'm not in horrible pain

You have to go to a clinic everyday??? For what?
What was your old pain regime and why can't you go back to it if it worked for you?

did you already mention this and I missed it? =) Sorry if you did.

Don't worry about rambling...I do it often. I totally get it about the pain at night. I have to sleep with a pillow between my legs every night.

Maybe you could take 1/2 Soma instead of a whole one if you feel too "out". I too have had to get up in the middle of the night for something. I try not to take pain meds in the middle of the night, but I will take a Soma and Tylenol. Many times it doesn't do a darn thing for me. Not a darn thing.
