I am new to the board and have been reading the messages for a few days. I have not yet been diagnosed with FMS but I certainly have all the symptoms. I had bloodwork done last week for my sed rate and another one I can not remember. I go back to the specialist next week, so I will see what he says then. However, after reading the posts on this board, I am certain that I have it. I will not list all of my symptoms in this post, I don't want it to get too long... but I would like to later to see if anyone else has the same symptoms as I do.

What I would like to know now is about this strange itching that I am experiencing. It happens after pressure has been applied to my muscle areas. For instance, this morning my husband was massaging the muscles in my shoulders around my neck area and after he quit I immediately experienced an itching sensation in that area. It went away after a few minutes, but it is so strange. That happens quite frequently if I squeeze my upper arms where the muscles are sore and it happened when I saw the orthopedist and he had me move my arms around in different directions.

Does anyone else experience anything like this?

I also have itchy times on the tops of my shoulders and upper arms. Not everyday. Sometimes it seems related to damp weather.

I also itch under my arms and this is worse when I am stressed.

    Any answers would be welcomed.

Thank you for all your posts. This board has been such a help to me and has put a lot of my fears about my health to rest as I can see there are so many others who are suffering from the same health issues and concerns that I am. God bless you all. Nancy

I itch all over. I scratch until I tear up my skin. Sometimes benedryl seems to help. I am new to this too. You might want to read about restless leg syndrome, which has an entry today.

If you put "itching" into the search engine of this sight, you will find a lot of people who have talked about it.
One of the most comprehensive lists of things that are associated with fibromyalgia can be found on Devin Starlanyl's website. We are not allowed to post them.

    hope that helps

Have you had your thyroid checked? Hypothyroid can cause dry, itchy skin as well. Plus, it seems that most of us with FM seem to have hypothyroid - just another perk of FM I suppose...LOL!

You are right! It is not a skin itch, it is like a deep itch coming from inside the muscles. Scratching does not help and most of the time I don't feel like scratching. I do spray on some dermoplast sometimes with helps. It is just a strange sensation that I have developed over the past couple of months (among others) and I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this. My doctor hardly paid attention when I told him about it. But that is another story. I am sure he thinks this is all due to stress and some may be. I have been to see a doctor nearly once a week for about 2 months now trying to figure out why I have all of these strange things happening to my body. It was not until I found this fibro board that things started to make sense to me and I can finally relax a little bit. Not that I will stop checking out when things don't feel right- just have to know. But now I know I am not alone. It helps tremendously. Thanks to all for your responses. I have had my thyroid checked and it was normal. I was sure it would be off. Take care everyone. Nancy
P.S. How do you put in your bio in your info? I did notsee that option when I registered.

do a search on this on this site....we recently discussed it and I posted a reply. I have a long history of this and it all seems to be related to my autoimmune processes going on. This is an interesting symptom for us and one that is causing me a ot of distress. I'm so sorry you're having it as well.

I have a a very bad itching under my arm. My lymph nodes are always enlarged also there. For a while I had extreme itching on my feet but that finally went away.

I`ve never read itching as a symptom of this but who knows. This is such a oddball illness, nothing would surprise me anymore.

I used to get horrible itching, mostly in the winter months when my skin was dry. So did my husband. I finally went to a store that sells all different kinds of soaps and moisturizers, and asked the clerk what soap I could buy that would be mild and not make me itch. She suggested some almond soap from Portugal, and as soon as I started using it my itching stopped. We had been using Lever 2000 soap, which we discontinued immediately. My husband also stopped itching after discontinuing Lever 2000. I would suggest switching soaps first. If that doesn't help, I would see a dermatologist. I hope this helps.

Hi Nancy, glad you decided to join us. But sorry you think you have FM.

The itching is very common with us. I have it in different places at different times, but the worst is on the back of my neck right below my hairline. It wakes me up sometimes, and there is not a bump or anything there. I also get itchy ears, they just itch. After a while they stop. I use a cold towel on them so not to scratch.

    If you want to read a great book on Fibromyalgia, get;
' Fibromyalgia & Chronic Myofascial Pain Syndrome (A survival Manual)' by Devin Starlanyl, M.D.

The author has Fibro, and is a medical doctor, she is great with all the symptoms and some things that do help too.

Hope you get some help soon, and hope we hear from you often, let us know what the doctor has to say.

    Shalom, Shirl

Welcome to the board....I am sorry to hear you have Fibro, but if you do, you have certainly come to the right place. This is a great place for support, answers to questions, and to gain knowledge. Sorry to hear about your itching. I have itching that comes and goes, but is not one of my big symptoms.
    Welcome and best wishes, LL

I get this on the bottom of one foot. It's not the skin, that part of my foot is actually permanently numb from nerve damage due to a ruptured disk, but the itch is deep inside and I use something very hard and rough to scratch it. And since it's so deep I usually end up blistering the bottom of my foot.
