I've had tinnitus for many many years, & have had vertigo off & on since 1993..The vertigo, as was told to me by an ENT. specialist was an inner ear thing, caused by a virus I picked up somewhere. He said it may go away all by itself or come & go..And it seems w/allergy season (spring/fall) is when it appears..

At the onset in 1993, I was working in 3 different nursing homes, on call, & I'm sure that's where I picked it up. Couldn't drive for about 6mos. Really came on w/right head turns, couldn't take showers by myself, hubby had to be in the bathroom w/me, help me dress, etc. Was horrible.

Now it seems to bother when turning over in bed, putting my head lower then my supposed (lol) waist..Usually just spring & fall tho'. Hope it doesn't come back like b4..

As far as the tinnitus, it's louder at times, & if I'm listening to tv, music, etc. I can usually tune it out..But there are other times, I could just scream w/it..No fun...

I haven't really found anything that helps the tinnitus med.wise. I've tried the neck stretches, but that didn't work for me either..siiigghhh..

Hope you find something that does work..If you do, pls. post re;it...

I went to the doc for vertigo several weeks ago. He gave me water pills. Said it was a fluid imbalance in the inner ear. It took a couple weeks, but it is better. Don't know it was the med or just time that healed it!

I was staggering around like a drunk! Especially in the dark when I got up to go to the bathroom. Had to hold onto walls. Even bought new dog treats to put on a higher shelf because I couldn't bend over to get the ones that were down low!

The worst vertigo was just before and after my breakdown in 1998...tinnitus is ongoing throughout my life...just part of me and doesn't bother me. Kind of soothing.

The doctor gave me some pills...don't know what they were, but they helped. Then, I just stayed down or was very careful when it happened...didn't take pills. Sometimes just turning my head on the pillow set me off.

Haven't had it for a long time, so it doesn'tstay forever, but it is a drag while you have it. Even taught school one day with it...sat in a chair and made the kids come to me. Just before my breakdown. Crazy.

See the doc...they do have pills.

Take care, and I'm sorry about all of this on your plate.

I have a cousin who has vertigo pretty bad. She does have medication for it and it has stopped the problem. When she goes off the medication the problems starts up again.
She said the doctor did not give her a reason for it, but just treated it.

I dont have tinnitus so I cant comment on that.

I have had BPV (benign positional vertigo) most of my life. It comes and goes. Just yesterday I had a dentist appt, was in the chair all afternoon, now today the vertigo is kicking up again. After not having it for a long time.

There is antivert (generic name meclizine) which dr. can prescribe, that helps sometimes. Sometimes it goes away on its own.

    I know very frustrating.

I have vertigo whenever I fly, my doctor advised me to take a sinus medication that dries you up i have to take it 2 weeks before flying the entire time i'm gone and 2 weeks after i fly. i did do it this may and i did have a little vertigo not as bad as it usually was. i often go and get a shot in the bum--you have to have someone go w/you because it will make you extremely sleepy and very relaxed, i believe the name is phenegran, but as usual i can not remember exactly. i have taken antivert in the past some days it makes me sleepy and sometimes it doesn't. good luck to you. donna
