I was just recently diagnosed with CFS/FM. We had been suspecting the FM for a while, but I had to go through all the tests. I was feeling better for a while, the pain was pretty much gone for a bit. I was having other symptoms like spasms and other stuff, but all of a sudden today the pain is back in full force and I am totally depressed about it. It seems like nothing touches it. I feel like there is nothing anyone can do to help me. My Doc says that it has been shown that pain pills don't work for the pain for these conditions and so she does not want to go there. I have 800mg Ibuprofens but they don't do a thing for it. I am on Cymbalta, Provigil, and Rozerem. Is there anything that helps with this muscle pain?? Please help.

Did you try a rheumatologist? They are more acutely aware of the pain we each live with... I went through my fair share of Doctors for 15 years... Some more ignorant than I was about Fibromyalgia. The only thing that will touch my pain at certain times is darvocet and flexeril. I thank God every day I have an understanding Doctor. No one should have to suffer with pain. I bet if she had your pain she would run to the right meds. Good luck!

I'm sorry you're in so much pain. I'm just wondering if heat helps you at all? I bought a heating blanket and it helps my FM pain while I'm covered up, and relaxes my muscles. I couldn't live without this now, especially in cold weather months. Just a simple thing to try. I hope you find what works for you. This board is great for finding info. and getting support. Take care. susi-di

I'm sorry you are hurting. I've found Lyrica to work the best for some of the muscle pain. I say some but not all. I sure do know when I'm late for a dose though, so I guess I rely on it more than I think I do.

Zanaflex is a muscle relaxant and works pretty good for breakthrough pain, but when I'm really hurting a hydrocodone helps the most.

Any of these only work for a few hours and I find that the best thing is to lube myself up with Jointritis and go to bed. It's a menthol rub for arthritis, but it feels great on muscle pain and it works right away.

    Hope this helps some.

Hope you find something that works I found that nurontin worked for me. of course it was trial and error till my doc found one that worked on really bad days I have to take vicadine along with nurontin.

again only you and your doc knows what works for you I agree you may need to find another doc who is willing to see you releaved of pain.

    best of luck to you

get well soon and hang in there.

Well, I am a believer in pain pills and am sorry your doctor is not.

I believe the other responder had a good suggestion: maybe seek out the help of a rheumatologist. They tend to work with people like us pretty well.

    Feel better ASAP.

have found that many of the rhumeys here
    in s miss
wont take fibro patients any more.
so we have less and less who to go to.
i am so sorry you are going thru this.
i have a pain dr who also doesnt like to give
    anymore than lortab and vicodin...
not much difference to me really..
. they neither doent work anymore.
so me and him are at a standstill
and today i see him about it
and im am afraid he will dump me.. sigh.

pain meds are the Only thing that helps me at all. the rest tears up my stomach or hurts me more...

When I was really hurting with fibro, the drug that helped me, and stopped the pain cold was MS Contin.

Not all doctors are willing to let you try it. For me, it was a chance to get the upper hand with my pain.

I had become practically housebound and my muscles were de-conditioned.

I was on it about 9 months and could not continue due to side effects. Looking back, I now realize I had gallbladder disease at the time and that caused alot of the problems.

After going off MS Contin I was able to continue getting better with another, less strong drug. Taking MS Contin was like a shock to my system when it stopped the pain cold.

Its hard to explain, but I was so used to feeling pain for so many years, I needed something as strong as MS Contin to stop it.

After stopping the MS Contin, I never had the same degree of pain again as before I ever took it. Today I take Tylenol Gel Caps, Ultram on occasion, and a drug called Subutex which I started after stopping the MS Contin.

My doctor would have preferred I stay on MS Contin, or switch to Methdone. That was because he knew how sick I was before I took it. As above, because of the gallbladder problem, I opted not to take either.

Since I had my gallbladder removed, I could probably take it again but I don't have the pain anymore.

I will say, I also believe I had active Epstein Barr virus when I was in so much pain. My blood tests currently show a very high level of the virus as a "old infection".

Have you been tested for viruses?

My pain specialist is in Southern CA but sees patients all over the United States. He is excellent and very compassionate.

If you are ever interested, I am happy to give his name to anyone. (Trust me, MS Contin alone will stop your muscle pain. You might ask if you can just please try it. I was on 30 mg twice a day).
