Hi - I remember Dovely wrote about 3 months ago asking if there where any other preganant people on the board. I am 27 weeks and in the last 3 weeks have had 3 episodes of fainting (complete lack of consciousness for over 1 minute)with NO warning. My obsterician and the ER obsterician said it is uncommon as I have no diabetes or dehydration issues. As usual, they are not much concerned as all my tests are "normal".

I can only lie in a very specific position on my right side and otherwise I get dizzy/ cold sweats. I have a feeling it is CFIDS/FM related as no other normal pregnant person I know gets this.

    Any suggestions?

I'm not a nurse or pregnant, but I'm wondering if these docs have checked your BP, especially lying down and then standing up. If it drops when you are standing that could be the key. That's what happens with Neurally Mediated Hypotension and other orthostatic probems. I think it's worth checking into.

    I WAS wondering...

Sorry to hear bout your problem, Nina...A friend of mine got that with her first pregnancy but didnt' seem to have it with her second. I know she used to have a thyroid problem, don't know how much that had to do with the fainting.

could this be some sort of vaso-vagal [vagus?] response, maybe your nerve is being pressed on?

No ideas for you, but hopefully it will be over soon.

Take care and keep us updated.

thank you so much for your reply - as usual because I look normal and the fetal monitoring is fine, the obstetricians are not concered. I knew you weren't pregnant don't worry! I just wanted to get your attention.

I just think it is amazing that my new issues are not taken more seriously now there is a life growing inside me. The only other thing that has happened are peripheral neuropathy type symptoms (not carpal tunnel and not sciatic pain or numbness). I am a physio so I know the symptoms of those. I am measuring about 2 weeks bigger than I should, but my overall weight gain is only 10 pounds.

I am seeing my neurologist tommorrow and I will find out about this other specialist. Did you practice in the US - I have never heard of them in Canada.

thanks again and Im going to persist with this- I can't leave the house and I am scared to go to sleep!!

I had my orthostatic bp taken many times when I got sick a year ago, and in my 1st trimester, but not lately. The thought has crossed my mind. THe weird thing is, this happens when I am lying down sitting or standing!

    thanks nina

    Hi Sally!

My name is Tammy and I am 13 weeks pregnant. I was diagnosed with CFS January of 2001 and very anxious to get some info. Could I please get your website address?

    Thanks! Tammy

I fainted all over the place every time I was preggers... due to low BP. I also found out that with low BP we must avoid fresh celery and all celery products. (ground celery seed & any spices containing it) Once I made this connection I felt much better. I have not had a baby in over 12 years, but preggers or not I need to stay away from celery, or I will still have a blackout. My BP is always abnormally low, but worse when I was expecting...

    Hope this helps!
