    i am so angry........
the stupid govt. are going to ban approx 300 vitamins to please the big european pharmaceutical companies.

we in the UK are not going to be allowed to buy most vitamins without a prescription ?!

Once this is through they are going for herbalism and then homoeopathy.

It rests on the suppliers proving that substances or remedies are harmless. And how hard is it to prove a negative.?
Even if its a remedy used for many years in this country. If it can't be proved harmless it becomes illegal.
The list of exactly what will be removed isn't out yet....but this is really p******* me off.

As well as the fact they are taking away our power to heal ourselves with essential nutrients and remedies we find helpful i am really appalled that we are losing our freedom in order to benefit greedy drugs companies in europe.

In the last 2 years i have been able to heal or improve some of the many physical ailments i have with this DD, by working with supplements, herbs and vitamins

i know it doesn't help my adrenals to get stressed but i am so angry, what to do ?

    Pinkquartz I'm outraged.

They won't treat us on the NHS and then they take away the means of treating ourselves.

    Thanks for letting us know.

    Dear Pinkqueartz:

Sorry to hear about the troubles in the UK. If they ban them from being sold can you buy them from Canada? I know many Americans buy meds from Canada or have friends send them in due to the profits mad by the big pharmaceutical companies here in the USA. Would your doctor be willing to write scripts for you seeing that you had improvement from you symptoms. Keep us informed it really is unfair.

buying them online. I don't know if you still will have web sites there, but maybe American or Canadian web sites will ship overseas.

Someone here may know about the producusts here, if they will ship overseas........

but theoretically they still have to go through customs. They are labelled as supplements and we are charged both a fee and VAT if they are valued at more than a modest amount.

I think the govt's going to have a really hard time over this. It's a booming and fast growing trade over here, and necessary too when you think of the NHS prescribing restrictions and failure to treat a lot of people with chronic illnesses.

Tocacco and alchohol are more dangerous but they haven't banned those because no one would accept it.

It isn't just people who are ill who take supps, it's a large proportion of the most educated in our population. They tend to be more proactive and articulate too.

I can't see the NHS being able to take the strain of people queueing up to get their presriptions either. And will the NHS pay for these prescriptions? I doubt it.

A lot of people tell me they hope they never fall ill because the NHS is in such a state. Now that's a good reason for taking supps!

Grrrr I hate the way this country is going.

Having said my piece, thanks coyote for giving us info on alternative sources.

So Doctors can dish out drugs without giving info on full side effects.*Which most have anyway*.

Some elderly are on so many meds that thay can barely stand without falling over and needing surgery for broken bones.

On the other hand - it could be a good thing:-
    1) It may force them to take more interest in a more natural approach.
    2) Get a good supply of whatever in one hit - Less cost...
    3) May prescribe Probiotics along with ABX. etc. etc.

I try and see a positive outcome to get through this.

Could also force some people into a badly needed change of diet that supplements alone cannot cure.

The Health Stores must be panicking too...

Beckstar, I`m sure Australia are already going through this.
Ozgran has said she can`t get Olive Leaf Extract now for a while...

    Love Pat.

There ought to be a groundswell of opposition and protesting from the citizens. I just can't believe that they can get away with this. Our freedoms are disappearing at an unbelieveable rate, here in the U.S. as well.

Good luck to you in fighting this and let us know here if we can help in any way. Geography may separate us, but we are all in the same boat.

    Love, Mikie

    from friends in the USA.

There are a few things that aren't available here (eg melatonin) that I've had to send for or get my daughter to send, and it looks like that list may soon grow. It really is annoying, the govt complains about the cost of the NHS but is going to stop us helping ourselves at no cost to them.

I certainly don't want to have to go to my doctor (sympathetic as he is) to try to convince him to prescribe me vits, ZMA, OLE etc. He is interested in my use of alternative therapies etc but I need to feel in control of some part of my health!

    Hi pinkquartz,

Here in the states, Dietary Supplement Safety Act Bill S-722 has been introduced into the Senate. This bill will give dietary supplements, vitamins, minerals and herbal products more scrutiny and give the FDA the power to remove them from the market.

Under the Durbin Bill, if a single report of an adverse experience occurring while taking a dietary supplement is received, the FDA can initiate procedure resulting in the termination of the marketing of the ingredient. Adverse experiences have already been filed for Vitamin C, Echinacea, Multivitamins, Glucosamine, and Calcium.

Under our current law, the FDA has the authority to regulate the types of ingredients that can be used in dietary supplements, the potency and purity of those ingredients, and the claims that can be made on behalf of these products.

Is the USA next? Possibly..... Tulip

Keep in mind that anyone "opressed" in their own country can defect to the USA.
    It's a nice little country. :)

We have freedom for everyone and we have the worlds best military forces to keep you feeling safe!

On a more serious note to my fellow americans...
PLEASE keep pinkquartz's situation in mine next time some nut job from D.C. attempts to implement National Health Care. And remember NOT to vote for those people who want to have control over YOUR health.

As you can see from pink's problems, the "governments" that have nat'l health care don't REALLY care about your health. They just want to regulate EVERYTHING.
By definition that's socialism, bordering on communism.

Isn't it wonderful to live in a free country?!
Don't forget to thank a Veteran!
This 4th of July, keep in mind WHY we celebrate this day.

I didn't mean to get on a soapbox. But I'm feeling particularly patriotic I guess.
Being a Navy Wife can be hard. But I know WHY our armed forces do what they do.
    They just love America!

I am really sorry that this is happening to you. But it is on the agenda for this country as well. They have come close a couple of times but did not have the vote. It will not be long.

This kinda explains why my small town doc ordered a supp and herb book. She was giving me some stiff warnings about how people did not know the exact amount of each ingredient in their supps. and that she would be able to help people out pretty soon. have not used supps and herbs to heal..the big drug companies and those politicians that receive the big money...THEY want this. They cry everytime they see us use alternatives instead of their products.

My guess is that within five years, we will be in the same boat.

The drug companies are really mad about Canadian pharmacies selling to US citizens and now this? I'm with whoever else said "what next?" This is amazing and truly awful. It's all about money and control and I really am wondering what is in the works behind the scenes.

I think the drug companies just looked at the huge profit supplement manufacturers are making and instead of joining they are going in for the kill.

Will be watching to see where they strike next.

Part of the blame must go to unethical and greedy supplement manufacturers who push dangerous things like ephredra or cheat on the amount of active ingredients they put in the supplements. I've seen studies showing most of the brands of a particular supplement did not have a single molecule of that supplement in them. I saw one study where most of what was being sold turned out to be cornstarch! Then people like us take these things and conclude that they don't work, and never try them again, when the real thing might have worked great for us. There has to be some kind of regulation because of all this dishonesty, but the regulatory agency should not be in bed with the drug companies, like our FDA seems to be.
What an awful mess. Once again the good people suffer becasue of a few rotten apples.
