I've taken Provigil a couple of times before, but it was a few years ago. I remember it working really well at first, and then it wore off as my body got used to it. I used to take 200mg in the am and then crash in the afternoon.

My doctor now wants me to cut up the 200 mg pill into 2 or 3 doses to be taken thru out the day. Today is the first day I'm trying 3x so maybe I don't feel so crappy when it wears off.

Anyone have any experience w this drug? I searched this site and read what others had to say before. Anybody have anymore input good or bad? I got really wired the first couple of days that I took it and overdid it on housework, my body was so mad at me!!

I just went to see my chronic pain specialist swho i only see every six months because he moved and I have to drive for two hours and spend the night at a hotel (where I'm at now) So he gave me samples for when I am really bad with the fatigue and Have to go somewhere. I took 1/4 tab but not enough, cuz only had 2 hrs rest (new grandbaby) , so i took the other 1/4 while on the drive up here. It didn't really kick in until after I saw my doc. I was gonna take a nap but now I'm wide awake, I also feel happier than I have (other than baby's birth) with out reason, was worn out and depressed this morning. It helps the fatigue and mood, BUT it causes more pain, especially the neck pain which is usually my worst spot. It may also be lack of sleep increasing the pain. Now tomorrow I would feel a little tired like after too much coffee (i dont drink)
and kind of achy. But I was able to get a prescription for the Mirapex so I will have to see if that counteracts the withdrawal. Doc gave me more samples cuz he said 6 months ago he gave me 14 tabs and I think I have 5 left. I only use 1/4 to 1/2 tablet occasionally when I REALLY need it!

Hermitlady, what you said is exactly why I have not taken Provigil. "I got really wired the first couple of days that I took it and overdid it on housework, my body was so mad at me!!"

My PCP gave me samples and my Neurologist offered to write me a script. I was suspicious of this med because I thought it would give me a surge of energy and a false sense of being able to do whatever I want and knowing me, I would push myself. I am housebound and sicker than ever because I have pushed myself too much.

Everyone is different and I'm not trying to discourage you. I can see from your profile that your situation is a lot different than mine. I just know from experience that pushing our bodies can do more harm than anything. After almost 10 years of being ill I am finally listening to my body and rest is helping me more than anything. Of course that's not much of a life, but I have hope that things will get better. I am taking baby steps.

I would say, listen to your intuition.

    I'm trying it again too.

    2 yrs ago I tried provigil at 200mgs 1 x a day.
Oh it worked! a little tooooooo well.
It made me feel way too 'lit up'
like I was on speed!! I did'nt like the feeling then.
I even felt like my heart was racing too fast.

I just asked my Rhuemy last week if I could try it agin at a much lower dose.He said 'sure'
I've only taken it 2 times so far and it was way better for me at 1/2 tab. 1 x a day (100mgs)
    Best of luck...
I hope it helps your fatigue.

I am feeling a bit strange from taking it 3x today. Not really amped up enough to go crazy moving about, but a little like drinking too much coffee. Not sure if I like it, guess I'd better give it some time for my body to adjust. My head hurts and I feel a little "unsettled"..

I always feel so wierd when I start taking new meds. I get my hopes up so much that "this one" will be the magic drug for me. And when I don't feel better I get so sad. I'm going to try to fine tune the Provigil dosage this time, might take awhile I guess.

To me its something you might just want to take on the days that you need to socially function or get a lot of things done.

To take it every day will exhaust your adrenals and leave you in the ditch.

Perhaps others have been able to take it every day for long periods, but this has been my experience as well as some others I have talked to.

I tried 200 mg of this drug one day. I felt exactly like I did before I got sick. Got enormous amounts of work done without even trying, felt great.

Then I couldn't get out of bed for three days.

Since then, I've tried smaller amounts. I get the same well/crash results, with the severity varying based on the amount that I take.

My psychpharmacologist (psychiatrist who specializes in prescribing drugs) insists that if I take a small amount of this ("lick the pill," he said) and then work my way up, I will get better. He does not seem to believe that CFS is much different than depression, however. The next time I got to see him, I am going to show him my new immune system panel (which shows that I have 40x the viral load as a normal person and 1/4 the functioning of my Rnase and Natural Killer Cell Activation). I'll see how he responds. It's nice of him to try to cure me with that drug, but I'm pretty sure that's not going to work.

I'll have to say, it was really nice to feel well for one day. It reminded me that I really _am_ sick, that this is not how life is supposed to be. I think this was good for me, since sometimes I think my previous life was just a dream and that I'm exaggerating it.

I am having a hard time imagining a circumstance where I'd want to take it again, though.

Just popped by to say hi. Sorry i don't know anything about these meds, (we have different names over here, so don't even know if i've tried it!) But sometimes things that didn't work for us 2 yrs ago, will work now and vice versa..

We seem to be on the never ending cycle of 'trying stuff'. and then when something does help, our system changes again and we can't tolerate it anymore.

I think thats what i hate the most... the constant changes in the system. Any way, i am off track... really just popped by to say hi and have been thinking of ya. Have you made an appointment for hypnotherapy yet?

I have found the hypnotist i want to see, he's over 2 hours away. I havn't made an appointment yet as i am still trying to get my migraines under control. My new doctor doesn't want to treat me anymore????? so i have an appointment tomorrow with another new one - wish me luck.!!

I need to get some relief with my head before i can do anything, and i havn't rung this hypnotist yet as i am not sure he still see's patients, he writes books etc and i cant handle another rejection at the moment.

Well i hope these meds help you, good luck

Talked to my pharmacist and he recommended taking the 200mg as a single dose around noon. Then he figures I'll crash and feel crappy when it's time to go to bed. I don't know who to believe....I'll just stick to my own dosing experiment and see what works I guess.

Well I tried Provigil to help stay awake...well it does that, but then I am hyper and don't have a thing in my head cause it's racing. Tried cutting them up too, but didn't work at all. Then I would crash. Not for me.

I tried it. Gave me energy, but I was sick and wired. Not good.

Dr. Paul Cheney says not to take the Provigil. Not good for people who have CFS.

I haven't taken any today and as usual can barely get out of bed. I think I'm going to try what the pharmacist said and take one around noon. I feel so lousy the first half of the day that nothing seems to help anyway. We'll see.

Seems like there are so many reactions on each side of the spectrum.
I too am a real lightweight when it comes to drugs. I take 1/2 tab in the morning and usually always have to take a nap in the afternoon. Pain get more intense then. In my experience the Provigil gets my mind working and my body moving in the morning, I can tell the difference. I realize it's not a cure for the fatigue, but I love the feeling of at least being motivated in the morning when I take the medication. Too much, I agree makes you wired, but a little seems to help me a lot, I feel better. Good luck!

I just started taking Provigil last week. I had gone into my DR's office and broke down, I said I am only 32 I have to work and raise a 2 year old, I can't function anymore...

We decided to try Provigil and I was leary, but it has been so wonderful for me so far. It doesn't make me jittery like other stimulants. Right now I could kiss the ground

I am so happy. I hope others have success with it, or other medications too. I know it is so HARD to find medications that we can tolerate, and that work for us!

    HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!

What dose do you take that helps you? I usually just split a tablet, that's all I can tolerate. Wish I could take more.
