    1. Has anyone lost weight (non-intentionally) since they've been sick ?

2.For everyone who has CFS; is weight loss one of the symptoms?

    Houseofblues -

Yes - I have fm and lost 25lbs over the course of 2 mths
unintentionally. I am down to 110lbs 5'5" and desperatly
trying to gain. I think the IBS has something to do with
it. I am seeing my dr on Friday.

... in my case (CFIDS) most probably the result of a bacterial infections and parasite (blastocystis hominis) infection of the intestines (possibly other infections). Especially the blastocystis: I got rid of them temporarily and started putting on weight. They came back, I lost weight again, and can't put on any.
Tests should be done by labs that specialise in such things, e.g. Great Smokies Lab.

Yes I to loose weight with this rather then gain. three years ago before they knew what I had I lost 40 lbs in two months and the doc's thought I had cancer or something but test after test said I did not. Then I got prego with my 5th child and gained alot of weight and nine months after he was borne I lost 25lbs in about 11/2 months. So with some it is normal to loose as with others they gain. I am also a small framed person so I can loose eaisly. Are you small framed?

That was one of the first signs that all was not well with my Health. I lost over 70lbs in a few months. I gained some of it back and then last Christmas I lost another 20lb's, I lose weight when I'm in a Flare it seems.

I have FMS/MPS tho, so I guess it can effect both Syndromes, CFS and FMS.

I do forget to eat at times, and I know someone out there is gonna say, "How can you forget to Eat?", easily, eating causes me pain and Nauseam at times, so if I don't feel good I just don't eat.

Then again I was always a Skinny Minney, so maybe I'm where I am suppose to be. I'm 5'5/34" and at one time I was very Heavy, but that was when I was older, my younger days were all spent as a Toothpick. People make fun of Skinny folks too.

When I was first dx'd w/fibro, my anxiety level was such that I had no appetite, and being depressed on top of this caused me to lose so much weight.

I couldn't even look at food - it would nauseate me.

    Just a thought.

    Hope things are ok gal.

    Gentle hugs, robsgal

I too droped 20lbs in just over a month. My Dr. told me not to worry because I needed to loose the wieght anyway. That I never disputed, just the fact it droped so fast. I think the IBS and the reflux are the root of it all though. My hubby thinks I'm nuts because I "forget" to eat, but when you feel like ewe, food is the last thing on my mind.
    Good Luck to all,

Here I thought I was the only one that forgot to eat. I do that all the time. There will be day's that the look of food makes me Ill. I usually only eat once a day and that is at dinner with the family. even then It is a small amount.

Not alone here! I also forget to eat, mostly I think subconsciously I feel worst when I eat, so therefore I simply 'forget' to eat!

I just lost 15lbs with an infection from spider bits. That was on the 24 of Sept. I have not gained an ounce back.

I have always been a stringbean, but not this thin, I am down to about 112 now, and I am 5'5", I need my weight back, but its very hard to gain when you really don't want to eat.

I drink Ensure, and malts when I am out. But I really don't like sweets too much. Its a trial for me to eat.

I don't know if this is a symptom of Fibro as I have always had a eating problem and a sleeping problem. Never was one to eat very much.

I always cooked, but did not eat. Thank God none of my kids have this attitude with food. They are all normal eaters.

I do have IBS, and my stomach feels better empty then full.

I have been trying to eat small amounts during the day, as a big meal is out of the question for me.

I have made yogurt cheese and eat that on toast, goes down very good, better than butter or jams.

At least I am not the only one with this problem. Its as bad as overeating, sometimes I think it is worst.

I also have lost weight. I am desperately clinging to my 97 lbs. Can't break 100. I eat voraciously, plenty of appetite. We haven't really looked into this much yet. We were about to over the summer. I was at 94, having lost 8 lbs. in a few weeks. When I gained, we put the issue on the back burner. We will probably investigate soon. I have almost no symptoms of GI difficulties, just gassy sometimes.

I have always been small, and on the slim side. But when I've had flares, I've usually dropped 10 lbs. quickly.

    for more info.

Has anyone had any success in putting the weight back on? I'm 5'7"/105 and dropping. Classic cfs for 10yrs. Like you Madelyn my appetite is fine, if anything I eat too much. Maybe less sleep? (Iget by on 12hrs)
I'm currently trialing nimodipine and take a dhea supplement.

    This is sure interesting.....
I have another post going about those of us who have Gained
    since we've become sick.
We're mostly attributing that to our medications.
By the way....are any of you who've answered this post,
taking anti-depressants? If you are and you're still losing weight, that's even more of a puzzle to me.....

Not even trying. In fact, I have a before and after picture
to take to my SSD hearing if I ever get one. I needed to lose some, because I was hypothyroid and I think some of it came from the Amitryptilline. But noticed today that some is creeping back - I have to take 600mg of Neurontin at night to sleep. Might not take it anymore, it really doesn't even help all that much. BonBons
